Tomorrow night, the Wytheville-Wythe-Bland Chamber of Commerce will sponsor two candidate forums in Wythe County.
Jackson Elementary School at 7 p.m., District 5 candidates will be present to present their views and to answer questions.
The candidates for Board of Supervisors are J. R. Gilman and Coy McRoberts.
The candidates for School Board are Sissy Anders, Pat Hines, and Hal Pope.
Delegate Bill Carrico, Virginia House of Delegates, will also be present.
Town of Wytheville Council Chambers at 7 p.m., the following candidates will be present:
The candidates for Board of Supervisors, District 1, Black Lick District, are Charles Dix and Gary Houseman.
The candidates for Board of Supervisors, District 3, East Wytheville District, are Danny McDaniel and Jeffery Lienhart.
School board candidate, District 1, Steve Sage will be present. School board candidate Bill Kidd will also be present.
House of Delegates, District 6, candidates are Anne B. Crockett-Stark and Carol Pratt.
I encourage everyone to attend one of these functions. Use the next day to think of a question to ask one of the candidates. There is usually a question and answer session. Depending upon attendance, all questions may not be able to be presented. I went to one of these two years, and it very interesting. I take my kids if they do not have other activities. I think that it is a good way for kids to see how our government functions on a local level. Unfortunately, more people attend ball games than these important forums. We need to make every effort to make sure that our votes are cast wisely.
If anyone has any questions, call the Chamber office at 223-3365.
