Most of us are spending a lot of time complaining and questioning the decisions of our elected officials. This Sunday provides an excellent opportunity to get involved and ask questions. There will be a “Meet and Greet the 2009 Candidates Event” in Rural Retreat. Even though this event is sponsored by the Wythe County Republican Party, it is an excellent way to meet local candidates.
A BBQ will begin at 2 p.m. at 7951 West Lee Highway, approximately 2.1 miles west of Rural Retreat Crossroads. After getting off the interstate from Wytheville, get on Route 11, Lee Highway, and you will see it on the left. A tent is being erected on the site. Admission is free to anyone. You may bring your family members. Delegate Anne B. Crockett-Stark, 6th District, will be present. Delegate Bill Carrico, 5th District, should also be present. If you have any questions about our state government, this is a good time to ask these delegates. Let them hear your opinions and let them explain their votes on any issues that you have questions about.
Remember you do not have to be a Republican to attend this event. If you are undecided about the issues, you should attend this event. Talk to these candidates. If the Democrats should have a similiar function open to the public, attend it and question their candidates. These events will help clarify issues and help the voter to make a wise and informed decision on Election Day.
There is no registration or anything required in advance. If you have any further questions, post them here; and I will attempt to answer them.
