On Friday, July 3, the Wythe County Humane Society received a call concerning a puppy that was found along the road in the Crockett area.  So far the owner has not been located.  This adorable little puppy is only around 8 weeks old and has two broken back legs.  This puppy will need surgery to repair the breaks.  This needed surgery will cost over $600.00.  This is money the the WCHS does not have right now.  We are struggling just to feed the many animals in our care.  Due to the economy and careless owners, we have more animals now than we have ever had.  If any of you would like to make a donation to help this little puppy get the needed surgery or to help us feed the animals already in our care, please make checks payable to “Wythe County Humane Society” and note on your check “puppy’s surgery” or “pet food”.  Mail any donations to P.O. Box 362, Wytheville, VA 24382.

Please find it in your heart to help this little one….

Thank you!

UPDATE!

I spoke with Dr. Reasor at Community Animal Clinic this morning.  They are now advising against the surgery.  According to Dr. Reasor, the little puppy’s bones are too soft to support the pins that would be neccesary during the surgery.  The puppies bones have already started healing back together and if they went in to do the surgery, they would have to rebreak the bones in order to completely line the bones back up.  At this point, they do not feel the surgery should be done.

Thank you to those that have expressed interest in this little sweet puppy.  When I received the call about this puppy, I had no idea what I would find when I got to her to pick her up.  She was so brave.  The fellow that had removed her from the side of the road had her wrapped in a soft bath robe and handed me the puppy still wrapped in the robe.  She immediately turned her little face up to look at me and begin licking my cheek.  I knew there was no way that I could not help this sweetheart!  I still had no idea that both of her legs were broken.  This brave little puppy never even whimpered.

At this point her vet bills will not be nearly as high as first thought.  WE STILL NEED ANY DONATIONS THAT ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO SEND.  ANY DONATIONS SENT WILL BE USED TO COVER THIS PUPPIES EXPENSES AND ANY FUTURE ONES THAT NEED OUR HELP.  THAT IS WHAT WE ARE HERE FOR.  PLEASE HELP US CONTINUE THIS WORK.  ANY DONATIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED…
(Donations should be sent to Wythe County Humane Society, P.O. Box 362, Wytheville, VA 24382)

Thank you!

Crusty old Sob:  It is a proven fact that people with the kind of attitude you exhibit don’t have compassion for his fellow man either.  I feel really sorry for you.  You have to be a very bitter unhappy person to have made the kind of comment you made concerning one of God’s creatures.

This little puppy is doing great and is now in a great foster home thanks to people in our community that have the kind of love and compassion that eveyone should have toward these helpless creatures! God put animals on the earth and meant for us to take care of them.  I am doing just that and will continue to do so no matter how many people like you that I may come across!

Crusty Old Sob!  How could any one be that cruel!  Animals, like newborns, are unable to take care of themselves.  God bless you.  I hope if you ever need any kind of medical assistance that someone doesn’t say the same about you.  Pam Henley and other members of the Humane Society are godsends to the abandoned animals.  We have two rescue dogs in our household and consider them part of our family.  Thanks Pam and your group for all you do!

WineDiva did you not understand that post,God has blessed me.I do not care whether anyone give me medical attention or not,but I will say this if the money is right they will take care of me. God also sent me to you.along with Pam and the members of the Humane Society, and maybe they make pretty good money, and that’s why they do it, and I would bet you would feed those rescue dog before the children. This is Gods Son&Child;saying remember the hungry children.

Crusty Old Sob:

Since you seem to think it is important to insult my character, let me set a few things straight for everyone.  It is possible for an individual to take care of animals AND help children and elderly.  I have provided childcare for 16 years.  Many of the children I have kept did not always have the things they needed.  Many, many times I have spent money on these children that I really didn’t have to spend just so that they could have the things they needed.  I’ve had mothers in trouble from abusive husbands that I have helped.  I’ve dealt with a child’s alcoholic father and tried to find ways to shield the child.  As for the elderly, I have an elderly mother that I am providing care for now.  I am with her at many as 15 nights a month and some days because she has to have someone with her around the clock.  I also just lost my brother to cancer that had just turned 70, which I helped to care for.  My elderly father passed away about 4 years ago.  I KNOW what it means to care for elderly and for children.  I am not above God as you put it, but I know that he is always there when I need him.  Don’t judge me or the things that I do or for the things you ASSUME I do not do.  I do have room in my heart for elderly, children, and animals, all of which are part of God’s kingdom.  I do not limit myself to just helping animals.

As for the Humane Society “making good money” as you put it, WE DO NOT.  We rely entirely on donations and fundraisers to continue the care for these animals.  NONE of us are paid.  We are all volunteers that try to do as much as we can, and in many cases have to use money from our own pockets to help these animals.  We do not complain about that, but keep going because we know there will be more that need help.  At the present time, there is a real need for donations, so don’t think we are making money.  That is simply not the case.

You have talked about helping the children and elderly.  Tell us how YOU have helped them!

Wow I thought I was replying to WineDiva.I know nothing of your character.and I do not want praise for the things I do for the human race & I do not need to toot my horn as to who I have helped,But I know. my family knows. and God knows.that’s all that matters to me. I am telling you that if you can spend a dollar on an animal there is a human being in you area or somewhere that could use it.so go ahead do your thing,I will worry about humans only.and please don’t eat animals.

Has it also been proven that people who have pets live longer and pets are being used in hospitals and homes for the elderly because of the positive effect they have on patients.  So in reality taking care of animals is also taking care of the elderly.

Bull!!!! It is in no way proven that people who have pets live longer.the Golden Gate bridge is for sell to you for a dime.but is proven that some people who have Pets and Children and if those Children are allergic to them, the pet stays no matter what.and I have seen this with my own eyes.I know its hard for you pet lovers to admit but its true.

Sorry!  But it has been documented that people who have pets, young and old, do live longer and have a better of life. It’s the idea of having something love you in return for taking care of them.  Golly, after reading your posts I know why I prefer my animals to some people.  I hope you continue to live a healthy, long, productive life.  You apparently have everything you need and a pet would only be in the way.  Good luck to you.

Studies show that pet ownership is most beneficial to those people not “in community”....that is isolated, ill, elderly and those with mental disturbances.  They provide the meaning and focus in life that a well balanced life lacks.  This is not a judgmental statement, as there are many reasons ones life is “out of balance”, just a statement of fact.
It’s a good thing we are not all alike, or we would all be fighting for the same favored cause.  I’m glad there are those who will rescue unwanted animals, but wish more time/effort were put toward preventing the birth of unwanted animals.
I’m glad there are those who are working for more equitable human rights.
Personally, while I care for my own pets, my “extra” time and resources will go towards the humans around me.
