OK BP, How can you say law abidding establishment. I will give it to you they have wonderful food, but the fact of law abidding is complete and total BS! Is it not a fact that an 18 yr old who the paper stated was intoxicated was in the bar on the night of the fight. Is it law abidding to allow an 18 yr old into a bar that is already intoxicated. Due to my job, I have met or assited with several minors that have come from the turn that have been in toxicated, so how can you state “law abidding”? Let it be known that there was also a 17yr old girl that was in the turn also the night of the brawl who was drinking, how is that legal? If you know the guy working the door, they dont even ask for identification. So hey, bring the kids and everyone is welcome for a night of enjoyment.
And to say that the owners of the Clinic also got tired of all the BS and decided enough of all that and everything related to it and decided to just bail out all together…The longitivity of the management and the ownership of any kind of establishment like these 2, ( Turn One & The Clinic ), is,in most cases, short lived due to the fact of the laws , employment problems, and previous/present patrons. Look at other areas and the bigger cities and there is not a one that does not have a problem of some sorts with the bars. But these cities are so big that very rarely do the local population ever hear of the things that has happened like they do in a smaller town. I would love to see somebody that wants to criticize constantly to take over for a while and see what it is like on the other side of the bar for once.
If anything, at least have security cameras to monitor and tape ongoing activity, and just maybe, that would prevent, or even deter some of the problems associated with these activities.
But again, this is one of the many ideas and inputs I may have along with everybody else.
Hey Vexed (or anyone); I have a question you might be able to answer because I haven’t followed up with the news articles:
Is there evidence that the bar staff served this 18 and the 17 year olds alcohol that the new paper stated?
Just wondering if anyone has the “facts” about this case and minors drinking “in the bar” that night. I ask only because I have seen people show up when they have already been drinking and for this reason or that reason, not drink at the venue because of age or driving and so on.
The article in the paper stated nothing about the 17 yr old female, but with my work I was introduced to her the night of the fight and she had just come from the turn and had been intoxicated. Why if the bouncer or security is doing their legal job would an 18 or 17 even be allowed into the turn. Even if the age of 18 was allowed wouldnt it be the job of the security to say you have been drinking and you are a underage and call the cops? The point that I am trying to make with this is the turn could be a great place and I have been there many, many times to see great bands, like Drivn! There is lots that needs to be changed. One of the major problems with the turn is you are on top of everyone, the place is too small to have the amount of people in there that it does. Someone mentioned the cameras, great idea! Now will something like that happen, probably not.
Well, it is a small place and I have been there for Drivn, TK, Ademption, Steam Shovel and tons of other bands. But, that is why they have a capacity set by the ABC personnel. I have been there recently when the place got to capacity which is annoying at times trying to grab a drink or use the restroom. It would be nice if they could expand with the store area next door. They could Upgrade the stage area, bathrooms and have a “crowd” area for shows that was more accommodating to the people not right upon the bar, colums and traffic areas to the restrooms. But expansion is unlikely considering the shape of the restrooms have been in for years…but peeing in a troff with 2 drunk strangers is always fun :) ok ok not so much lol. Sorry, that was way off topic lolol.
the bottom line is turn one used to be the cheers of wytheville. the influx of different clientele, and a younger generation of people who have no idea how to act in public or private makes things tougher on everyone. i work in an industry where the age range of employees is 18 to 65-70. and in my opinion and many others the under 30 staff have no work ethic, no pride and no sense of what life in general is about. and that same set has been the source of many of the problems that plague our local establishments, and our county as a whole. our whole country for that matter. parents are the ones who need to step up and instill the old school values this country was built on in their children. thank you.
generalize much? i’d say the age range of most employees is 18 to 65 or 70 most everywhere.
not everyone is as uncouth as those you must’ve encountered. maybe you need to meet some different people.

Anyone of any age can come into a restaurant in Virginia. I doubt you were there to judge whether or not an 18 or 17 yr old person was even there - much less intoxicated. That is, unless you were one of the first responders there. Unless you have evidence, the person wasn’t “intoxicated.“ He or she could have had something to drink, of course.
More room means more overhead,more problems,more headaches,more crowd control….hmmmm!!
You’re right drumforu.
If anyone wants to open his her own place or buy Turn One, I’m sure they’d take offers. Criticism of business is easy. Stepping up and having the chutzpah to do it yourself is something entirely different.
I agree that a larger venue could mean more issues whether it is control, drinking or whatever else could occur.
But in fairness of discussion sake, it also could help with some of the current issues being discussed here such as:
Larger room, more space could mean less aggravation trying to get a drink, going to the restroom, or just trying to miss the flood of people in front of the stage which I think is a major hassle. If you have to get a drink, use the restroom or even walk near the bar, you bump 10 people at least lol. And getting a drink is difficult because with so many people right there, it is difficult for the bartenders to tell who is standing waiting for a drink or who is just standing because they have no room.
It could make the business hire more security to cover a larger area - also possible implementations of camera since it is a larger area to cover…
Separation of work/bar area verses the stage area and pool table area would be nice.
But it very well could go in a negative direction as you have stated above! Who knows lol.
<sigh>... I believe there are cameras already in there.
Listen folks…if you don’t work there you really don’t know anything. We that play there, go there, only know on a limited basis.
If you don’t go there at all then you only speculate and create/spread rumors.
