This morning in Wytheville gasoline is down to $2.09 per gallon.  Any guesses for when it will fall below $2.00?

We’re eager to hit $1.99. No predictions just hope that it will be soon and that it will keep falling.

I went to lunch 45 minutes ago, and Go-Mart was 2.05.  On the way back by just now it is 1.99.

Now, if we can only get down under 1.00 like it was 4 or 5 years ago…

I remember when premium got down to .99.  It was .79 for regular, .89 for mid-grade and .99 for premium.

Of course I can also remember when I was in college, and Taco bell had the .49, .59, .69 cent menu.  A hard taco for only .49 equated to a heck of a lot of money-strapped college kids eating tacos.

And then my Dad likes to tell me how when he was a kid he would get 5 full-sized candy bars for a quarter.  Of course he probably only got paid fifty cents to mow an entire yard though.  :)

Gas is down to $1.95 around town.  Yesterday I filled up at Sheetz, and noticed a guy taking pictures of Sheetz’s big sign that shows the gas prices.  I watched him go back to his vehicle and it had New York tags.  So our gas prices must be a lot lower than what he’s used to - low enough for him to bother taking a picture to show people back home.

Not a lot lower, lots of areas much cheaper then this area because of competition and maybe this guy taking pics was a Sheetz manager from that area…  Who knows?

The national average right now is $2.20, and in town it’s down to $1.93.  Hess is down to $1.91.  Some places might be at most a dime cheaper, but for us to be that much below the national average we must have relatively low prices.  I know that West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee have higher gas taxes, so those states are always higher than us automatically.
Here are the taxes by state in case anyone cares:
VA: 17.5 cents per gallon
NC: 26.6 cents per gallon
TN: 20 cents per gallon
WV: 20.5 cents per gallon (plus 5% wholesale tax)

These spambots are getting better and better.  This one pulls sentences out of a news story that matched keywords in this thread.  That makes the post look more natural and less like spam, so the link to the website it is promoting is less likely to be removed.

Here’s the story those sentences were pulled out of:

It’s down to $1.85 a Gallon in Bastian. I’m shocked, lol…..I didn’t think I would ever see it below $2.00 again.
