In reading other post—it is stated the election will be a flip of the coin. That may be a good idea. Let each party pick a person to run—we then let the current President flip a coin and the winner get to run the country for the next 4 years. Think of all the money we could save on running ads and the expense of flying the candidates to different places to make speeches for the election. All that money could just go to help the economy and the national budget. This way you could only be in office 4 years and would have to work fast to get the job done——and not have that long to put us in a worse shape.

All the money that was put into this campaign for advertisement and commercials, yes I have to agree that it would have helped the economy alot. I have never seen a campaign like this one and I hope I will never see another one like it. What a waste of money when this money was needed in other places. Just maybe they fliped to many coins.

someone would have to take the job to get us out of the mess we have been in for the last 8 years. This does’nt mean it will get any better, but it will take someone with brains to fix this mess. I may be wrong but Mr. Obama seems like he is trying to help the middle class and poor. We will just have to wait and see what happens.

We’ve been in a mess for the last 8 years?  hmmm.  Was it the full employment rate or the enormous growth in the DOW?  Maybe we haven’t had enough terrorist acts on our soil?  Must have been the growth in international trade which has kept us out of a recession until recently. 

Look…love ya, mean it but things were pretty dang good all around until recently.  And this financial mess is directly linked to crap mortgages and foreclosures leading to massive freezes in available credit.  Plenty of blame to go around but the mess has been more like 8 months, not years.  Americans do not have a right to home ownership.

I see the biggest part of this “mess” stemming from sending a majority of our resources, including our young men and women, to Iraq to fight a war we started on false pretenses.  There were not any WMD’s….and the people who attacked us did not live, train or come from Iraq.  Saddam Hussein was a brutal dictator who terrorized his own people, but not us.  He did not have any love for Al Qaida or Osama Bin Laden.  Chasing the man who trained and carried this attack to us on our soil…in Afghanistan…made some amount of sense.  Extending into Iraq, on what now turns out to be “false intelligence” (a nice way to say lies) does not make any sense at all.  If we were looking for where the attackers came from, why not follow their trail to Saudi Arabia?  Because they are our friends? 
I’m just a simple lady who does not pretend to see all sides of the story, but when I smell a rat, I know how to say so.
Our country has been in a “mess” for lots longer than 8 months.

I simply do not think anybody lied about WMD intelligence; not Bush, not the CIA, not the Brits nor Russians, not the high level Democrats (& Republicans) who supported the invasion.  The only one that may have lied, it appears, was the Iraqi govt for not demonstrating to the UN that all claimed WMD had been destroyed.  Remember, Iraq claimed to have these weapons and it is believed they were used on US troops in the early 90s (Gulf War Syndrome).

So, what if we’d gone straight into Afghanistan and what if Iraq did have WMD?  Not pretty.  Iraq did and still has missiles that can reach Afghanistan.  We would’ve put our troops directly in harms way.  And, what if we’d killed or caught bin Laden?  Killing him makes him a martyr to his followers and capturing him puts him in our custody for trial.  Neither scenario is good.  I like bin Laden where he is…contained and insignificant.

There must come a time when we all stop debating the merits of invading Iraq but work toward a responsible departure from the new quasi-democracy.  A lot of good has come to that country.  No sacrifice from a US soldier or their families has been in vain…we’ve liberated a people from oppression.  Other countries wish to be so lucky.

Since we are in Iraq and fighting there war. Should we not being getting something out of this? Like free oil. I know they are over there for the American people. And its a great thing that they are doing. They need to be in Afghanistan Looking for Ben Laden. They also killed the only man in Iraq that could control those people. I just can’t see anything changing there. This is all these people have ever know is fighting and let them fight for them selves.
