It seems that the forum has been full of people telling you how to vote for the last few weeks.
It will be interesting to see what will happen after the election is over. I guess the people will have a little time on their hands then—that or maybe they will just keep posting with all the reasons that their candidate didn’t win. Most likely they will have all the blame for others as to why the wrong person won and spend the next few weeks crying about it.
What happens after the election? First and foremost we pray that Obama is not assassinated. The zealots and lunatics will be crawling out of the woodwork. Arrests have already been made of people planning credible attempts on Obama’s life. Obama received full secret-service protection as a potential presidential candidate many months earlier than any candidate in our country’s history because the threat against him is so great. If he were assassinated, well, let me put it this way, the L.A. rioting after the Rodney King beating (53 murders, 2000 injured, $1 billion dollars in property damage, 10,000 arrests, 1,100 buildings burned) would look like a pleasant day at Chautauqua compared to what would happen in major cities across the USA. If it were to happen, and I pray with all my heart it doesn’t, we will at least have safety in the fact that Obama’s supporters are not predominant in our region.
After the election? We already see our standing in the world’s eye elevated. Now we can rebuild what Bush has worked so hard to tear down. America’s name in the world is spit on, the flag is burned. I hope our voices heard (2 to 1 in electoral votes) will be a mandate for the change Obama promised.
First, not all countries are happy Obama won. Second, it is concerning to me that we now have the president that certain countries really wanted us to have, because they wanted him in office not out of the best interests of the USA. Third, Obama is not America, just a figurehead. Just because they like him doesn’t mean they will like us. Fourth, this honeymoon could be short-lived. Obama will do as he has always done, which is jump around with the sway of public opinion. That’s the only comfort I have in this man as president - that he cannot be counted on to do exactly what he promised during his campaigning. In fact, I heard a number of discussions on the news last night about Obama’s “wiggle room”, and that he will probably not be aggressive, or immediate in the implementation of many of his campaign promises (like taxing big business at this time of economic vulnerability - that’s just plain stupidity from any viewpoint).
Great thread! I was thinking the exact same thing this morning once I learned the outcome of the election. I went to bed about 9:30 after watching a movie. I might have watched 1/2 an hour of election coverage.
But, I’m thinking that it’s kind of a relief that Obama won. At least now I can stop having to listen to people groan about how bad Bush is (not that I necessarily disagree with all of it. I just get sick of hearing about it). Here is Obama’s, and the Dem. Party, for that matter, chance to prove me wrong. Believe me, I would like nothing more than to come to this forum 4 years from now and make a post about how I was wrong about Obama. But, I honestly don’t think that is a possibility. Don’t get me wrong. I’m willing to give them (him and the party) the benefit of the doubt. I will certainly keep the administration, Congress and our country in my prayers. I just don’t think this forum will be here four years from now. I don’t think many people are going to stick around 4 years to discuss animal rights and pet adoption (I wouldn’t). There was a thread by Cyrus Tulane about topics to discuss and changes needed in the area, and 3 people replied. I don’t know, maybe I need to go back though and filter out all the political threads to see if anyone is talking about anything else.

Many that have posted political statements will not be posting. Some because they were political hacks, and some because they were bullied out of the forums. One person in particular has posted since the forum inception but I wonder if he will continue because he was “reported” for spam but I suspect it was really about politics. But what the heck, since we have free speech it is okay to verbally beat down those who don’t agree with you.
I haven’t bullied or spamed anyone—I just made a comment on what will people do after the election. Freedom of speach—they should be able to post their view. Everyone wasn’t happy with the election results. Especially ones who predicted that McCain was going to win. Guess thats like taking a bitter pill. Get over it and move on.

Please re-read what I said. I wasn’t referring to you. You weren’t reported for spam were you? I was simply answering you and basically agreeing. I think there were political hacks who won’t post now. There is one person who not only posted about politics but other things who was reported for spam. I believe he was reported for political reasons and not because anyone honestly really believed he was a spammer(re-my post was removed today). I was referring to things posted by John, who was posting about the animals at the shelters, plus heating info. He has been posting for months(long prior to election). He was the one who posted who will you vote for poll. But guess what——it’s been deleted.

MY REPLY—
Sorry—it looks like alot of the post were removed when they removed “John’s” posting. Anything that was a repost of question was took off—not quite fair to anyone. They even removed the posting he had for dogs up for adopting and looking for homes.
After the election, I’m sitting back waiting to see what happens next. I think our concern should be on the economy. Things are not looking to good. I don’t see anything happen in the market. It makes me sick. People are still looseing money everyday. They are going to have to go back to work because they have lost what they have payed into there retirement. You can’t go back to work if there are no jobs. It concerns me that someone can not fix this mess now. It’s ashame the Obama has to deal with this. You know the people in congress could help out if they wanted to. Everyone has Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up and I don’t think anyone has the money to spend. You are lucky if you can buy the things you need. I think about the families that have small children and no job. I just hope and pray that things get better for the sake of our Children. Right now we should sit back and be thankful for what we have, Because it could be in a day of time when we loose it all. God willing things will get better.
It’s pretty clear Obama would not have won the presidency if it weren’t for the economy. McCain was leading Obama until the AIG scandal broke, and McCain did not do a good enough job assuring the public that he had a plan to fix it. I’ve heard numerous commentaries to that affect.
The only thing that’s going to “fix” the economy is time. All the markets have to readjust to absorb losses and exert more caution. The economy simply works in this fashion - it overreaches in one area, things become overvalued, or too much risk is assumed, and markets decline while everyone readjusts.
The day after the election, when the markets opened to a new president elect, the DOW dropped a whopping 5%. In fact, the DOW dropped the more the day after Obama won that after any other presidential elect in history (even slightly more than when Roosevelt was elected during the depression). So one thing is clear - Obama does not exert any type magical sway or elicit a blind faith among investors and corporations. The markets were not calmed knowing that he would be president. As I’ve mentioned now too many times to count, many of Obama’s policies will hurt business, so perhaps the additional market decline after he won was a result of that.
The most important thing for Obama is not to fix the economy, but not to make it worse. It will automatically recover on its own.
