I have never heard them referred to as “hopitalists” but the term fits.  They were all family doc’s to start with and when the system started being over run a bunch of them were pulled in to work exclusively at the hostpitals.  Closed their practises and now work shifts at the hosp’s.  It was a cost cutting idea - our GP’s used to have hospital privleges but those are all gone now .... We do have the best doctor’s up here but our hopitals are older than dirt and falling apart.  A new one was built and opened in Sept this year out in the valley - nice as it is they can only partly utilize it as there is not enough staff ...
