Senators Chris Dodd and Barack Obama, among others, have stepped up to “fix” the financial crisis, brought on in large part by the implosion of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Dodd and Obama were two of the three largest recipients of Freddie-Fannie campaign contributions.

Obama has only been in the senate for three years but he is the second highest receivers or donation from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Dodd, Christopher -  $116,900
Obama, Barack -    $120,349

In a twenty year period, McCain has received: $21,550.

You left out the largest hog at the slop trough, Rick Davis, McCains campaign manager.  It appears that Rick Davis received around 3 million dollars in the last 2 years, 3 million dollars buys a lot of access to John McCain.  The money McCain & Obama got is just a drop in the bucket compared to what Rick Davis received.
Why was Rick Davis payed $3 million?? access to John McCain.

I am sorry, but you are misinformed.  Mr. Davis has never—never—been a lobbyist for either Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. Mr. Davis has not served as a registered lobbyist since 2005.

Freddie and Fannie used huge lobbying budgets and political contributions to keep regulators off their backs.

Fannie and Freddie have been creations of the congressional democrats and the Clinton white house, designed to make mortgages available to more people, and as it turned out, some people who couldn’t afford them.

The Clinton administration’s white house budget director Franklin Raines ran Fannie and collected 50 million dollars. Jamie Gurilli, Clinton Justice Apartment Official, worked for Fannie and took home 26 million dollars. Big Democrat Jim Johnson, who was a member on Obama’s VP search committee has hauled in millions from his Fannie Mae C.E.O. job.

The Center for Responsive Politics has the list of the Top Recipients of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Campaign Contributions, 1989-2008.  I do not see McCain’s name on it anywhere.

http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2008/07/top-senate-recipients-of-fanni.html

McCain is the one who stood up against F&F;in 2005.

John McCain was accused of corruption in the 1989 Savings and Loan crisis.

Remember the Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s. The five senators, Alan Cranston (D-CA), Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ), John Glenn (D-OH), John McCain (R-AZ), and Donald W. Riegle (D-MI), were accused of improperly aiding Charles H. Keating, Jr., chairman of the failed Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, which was the target of an investigation by the Federal Home Loan Bank Board (FHLBB). After a lengthy investigation, the Senate Ethics Committee determined in 1991 that Alan Cranston, Dennis DeConcini, and Donald Riegle had substantially and improperly interfered with the FHLBB in its investigation of Lincoln Savings. Senators John Glenn and John McCain were cleared of having acted improperly but were criticized for having exercised “poor judgment”. All five of the senators involved served out their terms. Only Glenn and McCain ran for re-election, and they were both re-elected

John McCain continues his legacy of exercising poor judgment in his choice for VP. The on going invistigation of Sarah Palins abuse of power just ended and the answer is yes she did abuse her power. The findings from the investigation were that “Governor Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda.“  This is a horrible thing.  Can you even imagine your boss putting pressure on you to doing such a thing and Sarah now wants to be a Vice President.  We just had 8 years of bad behaviour coming from the white house.  I think we have all been warned enough about these two.

Yes, I remember Keating 5.  I remember Senator McCain returning $112,000 to the Treasury and reimbursing Keating for any vacations or use of his plane.  I remember that McCain said that he would never get involved in anything like this again; and he has not.  That was how many years ago?

Again with Palin; there has been no action taken against Palin.

I could be wrong but didn’t all the Democrats pay the price, as they should have, and are no longer in congress, I believe the only one left in Congress is McCain.

I think Congress saw it different.

Do your homework.
The Democrats were in the majority.  They hired Democratic lawyer, Bill Bennett.  He conducted the investigation.
He concluded that John McCain and John Glenn had done nothing wrong.  He recommended that the two of them should have been exonerated.  The Democrats, not wanting to only leave Democrats holding the bag, refused to exonerate the two.  That’s when it became only politics as usual.

As for money from Fannie & Freddie.
The two biggest beneficiaries were Senator Chris Dodd-D CT, and Senator Barack Obama ($126,000) in just 3 years.  McCain received $25,000 over a span of 25 years.

One of the biggest money hogs to belly up to the trough, was Rep. Barney Frank, D-MA.  He was the ranking minority member on the House Banking Comm, and he insisted to Regulators, that nothing was wrong at Fannie & Freddie.  Why would he do that?  Because Fannie Mae executive, Herb Moses, was designing the kabuke mortgage products that Fannie Mae was selling to the banking industry.  Herb Moses was making those huge corporate bonuses for these shady dealings.  Why would Barney Frank care?
Because he and Herb Moses were involved in a 10 year gay relationship, and Barnet Frank called Herb, his husband.  Herb was bringing home the bacon, as long as Barney could block additional oversight of Fannie Mae.

I was educated in the SW Virginia school system and they taught us that the $2 million that Rick Davis got is 15.9 times larger than the $125,000 that Obama got.  I’m sure glad that I was educated in SW Virginia
instead of the state that you were educated in if you think Obama got the most.
