Bland is the Dead End of the World, if you are a regular costomer of Wal Mart you will have to drive to Wytheville or Bluefield. If you live close to the correctional farm, you would have to drive to Dublin to Wal Mart. As HIGH as GAS is now hope you have money for that long drive to Wal Mart. There is a grocery store in “downtown” Bland, in front of the “new” courthouse.  There is NO furniture stores in Bland. A Trading paper would be your best bet on getting used cheap furniture, or ask around some one may have something you need.  GOOD LUCK YOU NEED IT.  The TAXES in bland is out of this world HIGH. I have lived in Bland county, Roanoke, Wytheville, Tazewell,  in my life time, the WORST place was Bland county, it is poor, lots of people go out of the county for jobs, I worked out of the county also.  A few years ago there was a large sewing factory and a smaller one, NOW they are long gone.  In bland county there is a very few places to rent.  In bland you have to BUY a county decal to go on your windshield, it was $20.00 every year, and you HAVE to pay your taxes before you can get that decal. Where I live now, last year they made the rule,  everyone where bought a county sticker for $10.00, as long as they own that vechile they DON’T have to buy another decal.  I suggest you go to the bland county government website, and read about bland

I live in Bland and I enjoy it.  End of the world, I think not.  Country living, low crime and good people.  Most everyone willspeak to you.  Wytheville 12 minutes, Princeton is 27 minutes.  We have 0 redlights.  I love it and I am a transit, I moved here 17 years ago.

In bland you have to BUY a county decal to go on your windshield, it was $20.00 every year, and you HAVE to pay your taxes before you can get that decal.

It’s more than that in Wythe County and Wytheville, and they also leverage it to make sure you pay your county taxes.

Yes, Dan is correct, and that is one of the numerous reasons I left the Wytheville area.Bland is not a bad place to live overall. It is a rural community and has a lot to offer if you just want a quiet, mountainous atmosphere to live in.I know, that at one time, there was a lot of problems with alcohol/drugs with the young people, because there was nothing else to do there. But I don`t know how it is in this day and time.Maybe worse, maybe better!!! But of couse, this is everywhere anyways…

If you can go to wytheville in 12 minutes you must have been driving very fast, or in something that has lights and a siren,  the same thing goes for the trip to princeton, wva.  Thanks but I don’t want to ride with you.
TO the person moving to bland, try all of these roads for your self if you can afford the gas, and have time.  A person can not afford to live out in the country any more, and drive to work miles away, unless they have a rich paying job, and a small car.
Times are hard now, and they are only going to get worse, there has been houses broke into, guns and other things stolen, living out in the “county” gives a house a better chance to be broken into, than if you was living in town.
TAKE YOUR TIME, READ ALL YOU CAN ABOUT BLAND COUNTY,  AND TALK WITH OLDER PEOPLE IN THE COUNTY ASK THEM QUESTIONS.
Please before you move, make sure you want to live there, ask questions, read, go to the Public library, they have articles about bland county, it is in town, past the new courthouse on the left. It is expensive to move, make 100%sure you want to move to a place, any one in the family has any medical conditions do you want to live that far away from a hospital? A lot of the county has no TV cable service. Most of the county has no Public water and sewer. I guess the trash truck still runs once a week, you have to save washer, dryers, refrigrators,tv’s, computers, paint, once a year you can take it to Wytheville, Va. and turn it in. Yes there is a trash service, there is No landfill in the county.
Where ever you move to, make sure the house, apartment, house trailer, has been tested for a meth lab, being run there in the past. You don’t trust anyone. If there has been a met lab there you and your family’s health is in danger.

linsalone, you are a very bitter person.  As for the speeding, you obviously do not know what you are talking about.  It is exactly 12 miles from my home to Wytheville.  26 miles from my home to Princeton exit.  With the speed Limit on the interstate that equates to 12 and 26 minutes.  As for the trash, yes it runs weekly and if you have appliances you can call them and they will pick it up.  As for gas I can afford a gallon to go to Wytheville and back, and I wonder why you could not find a job that pays more than minimum wages so you could afford to buy gas.  I am certain there must be a few meth labs in Bland, I just am not aware of them.  I do read in the paper of several being busted in Wythe and Mercer counties.  If you have a personal problem with Bland I can understand why you take the time and trouble to post these distortions
