There was a beautiful male chocolate lab mix in the Wythe County Animal Shelter that was available for adoption yesterday (9/11/08).  He was absolutely gorgeous and weighed 120 pounds.  I told a friend that was interested in a choc lab that he was there.  Before he had a chance to get on line to check on him, he was already euthanized!!!  This is rididulous!!  The shelter gives no advance warning on their site that this could happen.  Animals should never be euthanized the same day they are available for adoption.  The Wythe County Animal Shelter in my opinion does not give these animals a chance to be adopted.  Talk about being inhumane!!!  This beautiful fellow looked like he was someone pet.  He was way to healthy to have simply been a stray!  Shame on the Wythe County Animal Shelter!!!!

Even though I know this happens every day at the Wythe county animal shelter, I am outraged!  I bet Ruthie didn’t even get the chance to know he was there.  That dog should not have been euthanized!  Ruthie always sees that the labs get out of there and either adopted out or she makes sure the lab rescue gets them.

The Wythe County Animal Shelter needs to explain this one.  Everyone there knows that dog would have been spared by Ruthie!  To say I am outraged by this is an understantment!

It discusts me knowing that Wythe County has an animal shelter that is so low down!

John,

I just looked at the picture you posted of him.  He looked like such a healthy dog that someone loved.  I don’t know why he ended up at the dog shelter but I think it is such a shame that he wasn’t given a chance.  I find it hard to believe that a dog that looks that good and is of such a healthy weight was a so called stray.  And, how can they say everyone said he was too big…if they were just able to see his picture the day he was euthanized?  Do you know how long they kept him before they put him to sleep?  I’m just curious because I know if he was an owner surrender they could put him to sleep the same day they got him.  For some reason, and this is just my opinion, I am thinking they just didn’t want to feed or clean up after an animal this large.  Looking at his picture and knowing he was put to sleep made me cry.  I wish someone cared enough to give him a chance.
