The police would certainly be called. If the motorist at-fault wasn’t caught, then (if you have the coverage) your uninsured motorist insurance would kick in for repairs. It’s quite possible the other motorist didn’t have insurance anyway.
I would imagine the car would be looked for. As for how long it’s hard to say. That question is best addressed to whatever officer responds to a given accident.
It really depends on what type of information the police have to work with. If they have a good reliable description of the car that hit yours, they will scour the town looking for like colored vehicles with damage to whatever area they determine has hit on their vehicle. Witnesses would be good, especially if they have description of driver, passengers or tag number is always helpful. Otherwise, there is not much the police can go on. It also depends upon weither it occurs on a parking lot or not. Parking lot accidents regardless of amount of damage will be considered minor accidents, whereas accidents on the street are viewed more serious and reports are compiled and sent to DMV, I believe. If all the officer has to go on is the color of the car then the only other thing the officer can do is supply the victim with a change of information showing their insurance that they have reported the crime which goes a long way in getting repairs to victims vehicle. Hope this helps.
I’ll defiantly be paying a lot of attention if someone hits me again then. I kinda figured if all they had was color and model even then it’s hard to find the vehicle. That’s why I really didn’t bother since I only knew it was black. Thank you guys for your help and I’ll be sure to keep attention next time. Hopefully there isn’t a next time though.
There are people out there like me who will never get over it. Pie is pie no matter what people think. Good, Bad, stupid, arrogant, I could go on for days. YES, I WILL NOT GET OVER IT. WILL NEVER FORGET!
