I live in the county off a main highway that once was the major highway for travel to north carolina before 77 was built.  we are not out in the sticks, we have electricity and phone service, but why is it that we can’t get high speed internet service either through embarq or citizens cable, the county water and sewage lines are coming down this very high way but we aren’t going to be included in the new line.
when i asked a county supervisor which by the way was how i found out, because the person over the water lines has never returned my call, we were not getting county water after i asked him. his answer was not enough money, not enough houses, but yet he is trying to get it all the way through rt 619 to meet with the lines on 94. there are at least 36 homes if i have counted correctly and thats just on our dead end street, not to mention the houses on top of the hill. we have to baby our well, we can’t water our garden because we need water for bathing, washing clothes and such. the road is semi paved but the red dust from the road up the hill keeps our house in a mess so we can’t pressure wash it and get the mildew or red dust off it so it looks awful most of the time.  we can’t get high speed internet because per the phone company we live to far from the office but sheeptown, cripple creek, and max meadows has it and castleton road has it thru citizens cable yeah we can get high speed if we want to do the dish satelite but
we shoud not have to if phone, cable and water is available to some it should be available to all. well that’s my soap box speech for today. i welcome comments or suggestions how how we might get these amenities on our street. thanks for reading

Contact citizens via their website:  http://www.citizens.coop and encourage your neighbors to do the same.  Tell them your street name and that you want high speed internet.  If you call Ft. Chiswell individually that will do no good.  Let the main office in Floyd know you’re interested.

As for Embarq, they have no plans to improve service to include high speed.  Citizens does - albeit a little at a time.

I wish you luck with Citizens - they are more responsive than Embarq, but one household won’t convince them.  Encourage your neighbors to write, too.

Also, I’d contact Congressman Boucher’s office and tell them that it’s a shame that on 52 a sign says “Now Entering Virginia’s Technology Corridor”

Laughable, isn’t it?
