Wrestlers win on senior night.

The Floyd County wrestling team closed out its home season with Senior Night wins over Bassett and Franklin County Tuesday, January 29. The Buffaloes beat Bassett 45-24 and defeated Franklin County 35-34.
The Buffaloes got behind and rallied to win both matches. The Franklin County match ended in a tie, with Floyd getting a team point to win by tiebreaker.
“This is the second time we’ve tied them,” said coach Mike Murphy. The Buffaloes finished the home schedule with an 8-0 record.
“I was very proud of how we handled ourselves under some intense pressure,” he noted. Not only did we wrestle well, but we conducted ourselves like professionals with all the excitement around.”
In the opening match against Bassett, Floyd fell behind 24-0, but rallied with 45 straight points. The Buffs fell behind Franklin 18-0 and at one point trailed by 25 points, 34-9.
Max Lander won a 9-8 decision to start the rally, Daniel Bradford won a major decision and Zach Bonham won by decision.
Floyd still trailed by 18, and had to get three pins in the last three matches for the victory. Shawn Board got a pin at 189 with 22 seconds left, and Caleb Vass at 215 and Josh Penn at 275 each scored first period pins to even the match at 34-34.
The team point went to Floyd, for having a 7-6 edge in total individual decisions.
