Whited wins the Varmint

BURKE’S GARDEN – Nick Whited of Raven held off the field of over 100 runners to claim the top spot in the annual Varmint Half Marathon June 14.
Whited covered the course in one hour 22 minutes and 55 seconds. That bested the time of second place finisher Jason Pastorek by two minutes and 30 seconds. Pastorek from Jonesborough, TN completed the race in one hour 24 minutes and 30 seconds.
Justin McGuiness from Pineville NC, Finished third, eight seconds behind McGuiness. Aaron Kaylor claimed the fourth spot with Tyler Richmond fifth.
Allison Pastorek finished 13 overall and was the top finisher among the women. Pastorek covered the course in one hour 39 minutes and 36 seconds.
Elizabeth Minnick claimed second among the women and Margaret Kolb was third. Jamie Myatt finished fourth and Ellen Binder completed the top five.
The race drew 114 runners from six states. Margaret Locke of Bristol was the oldest runner, completing 13 mile run at the age of 75. Forest Yates of North Tazewell was the youngest at 13.
