Wasps on state team

Emory & Henry College has two players on the second team of an all-state softball squad.

Pitcher Shannon Harris and fi rst baseman Dana Dettmar are on the second team of the Virginia Sports Information Directors’ allstate squad for college-division schools. Harris threw an Old Dominion Athletic Conference-record 184 strikeouts and had a 1.80 ERA. Dettmar hit a schoolrecord nine home runs, including an ODAC-record three in one game.

Top awards The top awards on the allstate squad went to ODAC representatives. Lynchburg’s Caroline Cubbage is the player of the year, Roanoke’s Kelsey Ruitenberg is the rookie of the year and Bridgewater’s Donnie Fulk is the coach of the year.
