Varsity volleyball team defeats EastMont

The varsity volleyball team opened a three-match week with a 3-0 win over Eastern Montgomery at Elliston Monday, October 15.
Floyd took the opening game 25-14, then clinched the victory with 25-20 and 25-21 wins. All 15 players saw significant playing time for the Buffaloes.
Molly Brown led the offense with 15 kills and two services aces. Brown had three blocks, including two stuff blocks.
Floyd had a chance to solidify third place in the standings but lost at home to Giles 3-1 Tuesday, October 16 and lost at Radford 3-1 Thursday, October 18.
Giles won the first game 27-25. Floyd rallied for a 23-23 tie, but failed to capitalized on two game points.
Floyd led all the way in taking game two 25-20. Giles came back with another two point win in the third game, 25-23.
The Spartans led by nine before Floyd got within 24-23. A side out gave Giles the winning point.
Floyd led game four 14-13 but Giles went up by four. Floyd cut the lead to 24-23 but once again the Spartans won on a side out.
The Buffs served 83 percent, with only seven aces, well below in both categories. Molly Brown had 12 kills, two aces and three blocks, including a stuff block. Brown also had 11 digs.
Idalina Walker was 19 for 21 serving, with two aces. She added 10 kills and seven blocks, three of which were stuff blocks.
Vanessa Quesenberry was 12 for 14 serving with 22 digs. Alyssa Knapp served 13 for 14 and had 11 digs. Libero Arlene Montgomery had 12 digs.
At Radford Floyd lost the first game 25-15. Game two was tied 12 times before the Bobcats came away with a 26-24 win.
Game three was tied 14 times before the Buffaloes pulled out the 25-23 win. Radford took the fourth game 25-22.
Molly Brown led the Buffs with 19 kills and four blocks, including one stuff block. Brown also served two aces.
Idalina Walker had 12 kills, two aces and two blocks, including one stuff blocks. Shasta Sowers was 13 for 13 serving with two aces and added four kills and 18 digs.
Vanessa Quesenberry was 17 for 17 serving with an ace and 18 digs. Arlene Montgomery had 23 digs and made 24 perfect passes in serve-reception. Shannon McDaniel and Lauren Hollandsworth each had four kills.
The Lady Buffs host the Three Rivers District tournament next week, but may have to play a first round game at Giles or Radford to reach the semifinals at home. The semifinals are Tuesday, October 30 and the finals are Thursday, November 1.
