Varsity softball splits games

Glenvar clinched the regular season championship with a 4-0 win over Floyd County at Glenvar Tuesday, May 6. The loss put Floyd in a tie for second with Auburn.
Amber Ingram led off the first with a single and Jessica Hall reached on an error. With two out, Ashley slusher walked to load the bases, but the Highlanders got the final out to keep the game scoreless.
In the bottom of the first, Glenvar took advantage of three errors to get two runs. The game was a pitcher’s duel for the next four innings.
Floyd got one runner on in the second and one in the fourth. Alexis Roop had a one out single and Slusher reached on an error, but the Buffs came away with no runs.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Highlanders added a pair of runs keyed by singles from the first two batters. The Buffaloes went down 1-2-3 in the seventh.

The Buffaloes rebounded with a 13-2 win over Eastern Montgomery Thursday, May 8 at Elliston. The Buffaloes won in six innings by surpassing a 10-run margin.
In the first inning, the first four Floyd batters got hits and scored. Amber Ingram singled, Kat Mills doubled, Jessica Hall singled and Alexis Roop doubled .
The Mustangs led off their half of the first with a leadoff single, but three straight strikeouts ended the East Mont turn at bat. In the top of the second, Floyd added five runs.
Stephanie Goad reached on a one-out error.Ingram followed with a single, Mills reached on an error, Hall doubled and Roop reached on an error. Their runs upped the lead to 9-0.
Eastern Montgomery got a pair of runs in the fourth to trim the lead to 9-2. In the sixth, Floyd added four more runs.
Kellis Walters, Mills, Chelseah Link and Hall hit singles and Roop tripled. Ashley Slusher followed with a single and the Buffs were ahead by 11.
The Mustangs got two runners on in the bottom of the frame but failed to score.
