The varsity baseball teams string of frustrating one-run losses came to an end last week. The Buffaloes beat Giles at Floyd 3-1 Tuesday and beat Radford 6-3 at Radford Friday.
“We’ve got a district win streak going now,” said coach Clay Moran. “This should give us some momentum going into the tournament.”
The Buffaloes had lost to Giles 2-1 earlier in the season. In the rematch Floyd got a strong pitching effort from Luke Harris, who allowed one hit, no earned runs, gave up one walk and struck out 13.
The Spartans looked as if they might make their one hit meaningful, as Joey Stevens got a one out single and scored in the third. Floyd pulled even in the fourth when Brandon Marshall drew a one out walk and Travis Bolt doubled down the right field line to score Marshall and tie the game 1-1.
Harris shut down Giles the rest of the way, getting seven strikeouts in the last four innings.
In the sixth Harris drew a leadoff walk and Marshall singled. Bolt reached on an error and Mitch Clark had a run-scoring single to make it 3-1.

James Woods scored in the third to make it 3-0.
In the fourth Mitch Clark and Caleb Gallimore had consecutive singles with one out. Christian Rodrigue doubled and the Buffs pulled within 3-2.
In the fifth Brian Ingram got a lead off double and Brandon Marshall got a one-out triple to bring in Ingram to tie the game. A sacrifice by Travis Bolt plated Marshall to put Floyd up 4-3.
