WILLIAM B. ADDISON
FLOYD-William B. Addison, Sr. 66, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was a retired Sergeant First Class in the United States Army, having served three years of his career in the Vietnam War. During his time in the Army he earned various medals and accommodations for service to the United States of America. He was a member of the Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854 and served on the Honor Guard.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Duke and Bonnie Addison, brothers, Harold Addison and Paul Addison, and sister, Doris Bonanno.
He is survived by: his wife of 48 years, Betty Joan Addison, Floyd; and their four sons, his oldest, Paul Daniels Addison and his wife Donna, of Floyd; his children, Valerie Ann Moran, of Floyd, Crystal Leigh Addison, of Roanoke, Paul Cody Daniels Addison, Joshua Sebastian Lee Addison, William Franklin Blaise Addison, all of Floyd; his next son, William B. Addison, Jr. of Floyd and his child, Sierra Inez and Justin Burcham of Hillsville and their son, Joshua Michael and her expected girl in May; his third oldest, Timothy G. Addison and his children, Lauren Gayle Murray, Spencer Ryan Addison of Franklinton, NC, Zachary Trent Ortner, of Colorado; his youngest son, Benjamin “Chip” Addison and his wife Traci of Roanoke and their expected son in August.
He is also survived by: two brothers and three sisters, Daniel and Louise Addison of Logan, WV, Jerry and Judy Addison of Ravenswood, WV, Marie Ferrell of Wytheville, Joyce and Donzel Morgan of Vineland, NJ, Bonnie and Wendell Hatfield of Gilbert, WV; his step-grandchildren, Sabrina and Skyler Smith of Franklinton, NC, Michael Grove of Plum Creek, VA, Kelly Hale of Tazewell, Buddy Skelton of Christiansburg, Rusty Allan Skelton of Christiansburg, Jessica and Alex Ortner of Colorado and Matthew McPeak of Christiansburg.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 28, at Gardner Funeral Home with the Reverends Clyde Bishop and Jonathan Goens officiating.
Interment followed at the family cemetery with military graveside rites by Floyd VFW Post #7854 and American Legion Post 127.
Bill was loved dearly by all of his family and extended family. He will be greatly missed.
EFFIE RACHEL MCGLOTHLIN LOONEY
FLOYD-Effie Rachel McGlothlin Shortridge Looney, 93, formerly of Grundy, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2008.
Born June 27, 1914 in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late William “Howard” McGlothlin and Jenny Ellen Looney.
She was a member of Big Prater Primitive Baptist Church at Vansant, Virginia and was baptized in 1935 by Elder Henry Mullins. She lived in Rosedale before moving to Floyd.She had a deep faith in God and in her Savior, Jesus Christ. She found great comfort and hope in the resurrection. She always rejoiced in God’s blessings and goodness. She loved the Holy Scriptures and found joy and strength in them. She loved to joke and make others laugh. Her laughter will echo in our hearts forever. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a dreamer. She dreamed of Jesus as a little baby.
Although her eyes grew dim, her vision never did.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by: her first husband, Earl Shortridge; second husband, Cecil Looney; son, Donald Shortridge; grandson, Jonathan Horne; sisters, Vernie Baldridge, Juanita McGlothlin and Ora Baldridge; and brothers, Roy and Mack McGlothlin.
She is survived by: son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Gail Shortridge of Floyd; daughter, Lois Shortridge Horne of Floyd; sisters, Nell Branham of Richlands, and Etta Ruth Justice of Home Creek; brothers, Jesse McGlothlin of Blountville, TN, Ed McGlothlin of Vermillion, OH and Frank McGlothlin of Vansant; six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and seven great, great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff. Elder Ezra Davis, Jr. and Elder Aaron Williams officiated.
Burial followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

MENTORY ELIZABETH HYLTON HEINLINE
GOOCHLAND-Mentory Elizabeth Hylton Heinline, 92, passed away March 17, 2008.
She graduated from Willis High School in 1935. She was the daughter of Eugene L. Hylton and Mary Bond Hylton.
She had one brother, Lester E. Hylton, along with two nieces and one nephew. She moved to Goochland County to live with her daughter, Vicki Sutherland Collawn, and died in the home surrounded by her daughter and son-in-law, Aubrey Collawn.
She had a grandson, John R. Sutherland, and a great-granddaughter, Jade Sutherland of Floyd.
She was cremated and buried with her son, Randy Dean and husband, Archie E. Heinline in the Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg.
PATSY MOORE SEAWELL
WINSTON-SALEM, NC-Patsy Moore Seawell passed away on March 21, 2008. She was born January 3, 1933 in Forsyth County to Patsie Lee Moore and William Maurice Moore.
She was married to George Taylor May who passed away in 1977, and later to Samuel Griffin Seawell who passed away in 2000.
Mrs. Seawell was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College, Salem College, and UNC-G where she obtained a Master’s Degree in Music with a concentration in piano. She had studied with Hans Heidemann, Daniel Ericourt (former artist in residence teacher at UNC-G), Loren Withers, formerly of Duke University, and Dr. George Kiarpes of UNC-G.
During the 1960’s through the 1980’s, she was active and held many positions with the North Carolina Music Teachers’ Association even appearing on their convention programs.
She was also an adjudicator for the North Carolina Music Teacher’s Association’s District Piano Contest, as well as the National Guild of Piano Teachers. Being active in the performing arts, she had done programs for television stations and in 1971, a tape of one of her concerts was aired on WFDD and member stations from Maine to Texas.
She was employed by High Point College from 1966 to 1980 as an Assistant Professor of Music.
After leaving the college, she was able to pursue her lifelong love of art with a concentration in watercolor. She was a member and exhibitor for Associated Artists Community Programs.
In addition to her artwork, in 2002 she gave a concert for the Reynolds Homestead in Critz, Virginia. In 2003 she presented a lecture-demonstration on the life and works of Chopin at The Homestead.
She resided at Meadows of Dan, Virginia, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, at the Vogler and Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. Donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
ANNIE LEE VIA
ROANOKE-Annie Lee Via, age 79, passed away Sunday March 30, 2008.
Survivors include: husband, Peter Via, Roanoke; daughters, Margaret Turner, Priscilla Allen and husband William, all of Roanoke, Veronica Via, Troy; sons, Theodore McCoy and wife Pauline, Augusta, GA, Peter Via, Jr. and wife Doris, Hardy; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
A private funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday April 4, 2008 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with Bishop Joe Atkins officiating.
