The size of parking spaces will receive attention when Council talks about zoning at its meeting on July 24.
Some parking spaces within the town do not meet current zoning requirements, which specify 10’X20’ spaces. Most spaces, including the ones in the new town parking lot, are 9’X18’.  Business owner Woody Crenshaw pointed that out to Council Thursday night when he was asking about the size of parking spaces for the Village Square.
“We just started checking the buildings for zoning requirements this year,” town manager Mike Maslaney explained to the Press. As of January 2, 2008, before building permits are now issued, the town has to sign off on zoning compliance.
Last week Crenshaw asked about using 8.5’ spaces for apartment tenants in the Village Square, but Council required parking spaces measuring 9’X18’. Crenshaw will be required to have 14 parking spaces for the five small apartments and four larger ones at the Village Square. He will provide 10 of those spaces behind the Village Square and use four spaces in the Village Green.
A zoning committee and the Planning District Commission have been studying zoning changes for over a year. Two public hearings, one conducted by the Planning District Commission and one by the Town Council, will be held at the end of the process.
The Town Council meeting on the 24th will begin at 6 p.m.
