Barlow
Elihu Barlow, 68, of Glade Spring, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County. He was the son of the late Emory and Nettie Barlow. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Lois Barlow; two daughters and a son-in-law, Almeda and J.D. Davenport of Meadowview and Clarice Barlow of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Hugh Emory and Kathy Barlow of Chilhowie; four grandchildren, Jason Barlow and wife, Christy, Candy Barlow, Alexis Davenport and Adam Davenport; three step-grandchildren, Scott Stables, Timothy Stables, and Justin Terry; also an expecting soon-to-be great grandchild; four sisters, Dorothy Widener, Minnie Faye Widener, Margie Thomas and Edna Thomas, all of Glade Spring; two brothers, Ernest Barlow of Chesapeake and Eugene Barlow of Glade Spring; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Friday morning, Aug. 31, 2007, at Garrett Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor J.L. DeBord officiated the services. The committal service and interment followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Glade Spring.

Alice Lee “Tootsie” Call, 67, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
She was born in Smyth County to Mildred Smith Eller and the late Albert Lee Eller. She was a loving homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She loved gardening, sewing and above all her grandchildren, Haylee and Hannah.
Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Call of Chilhowie; one son, Perry Call of Chilhowie; her mother, Mildred Smith Eller; her grandchildren, Hayley and Hannah Gomez; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday evening, Aug. 31, 2007, at the Bradley’s Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie. Pastor Steve Hutton officiated the services. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at Westwood Memorial Gardens.

Campbell
Mary Frances Price Campbell, 86, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Buchanan Campbell Sr.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and faithful servant of her church and community.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Jimmy Emery of Burke and Lynn and Barry Robinson of Rural Retreat; three sons and daughters-in-law, John B. Jr. and Arleen Campbell of Roanoke, David P. Campbell and special friend, Monica Lipford of Richmond, and Hal and Lynn Campbell of Rich Valley; one brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Jennifer Price of Richmond; one sister, Virginia Woods of Lexington; two brothers-in-law, Harold Campbell of Marion and Charles Campbell of Blue Ridge; 14 grandchildren, Courtney Campbell, Davy, Betsy and Kristen Campbell, Erin, Sean, Meg and Molly Emery, Will, John and Patrick Campbell, and Dana, Kelly and Andy Robinson; and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Rich Valley Presbyterian Church in Rich Valley with the Rev. Alan Gray officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. Burial will follow in Rich Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Gailliot
Annette Adele Welcker Gailliot of Marion died Aug. 28 in Fresno, Calif., following a long illness. She traveled to California July 20 to bid farewell to her dying son and was unable to return home.
She was born March 19, 1936, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Hans Theodor Georg Welcker and Martha Wilhelmina Waltermann Welcker, both of whom immigrated to the United States from Germany before World War II. She spent her early years in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Alexandria, graduating from high school at Cathedral School for Girls in New York City. She attended Hunter College in New York, and following completion of her husband’s medical training, she attended Emory & Henry College and received a bachelor’s degree from Radford University.
She and her family moved to Marion in 1970, a place she dearly loved and considered her home. She was an avid and passionate reader and was a volunteer with the local adult literacy program. She especially loved her children, grandchildren and her German Shepherd, Heidi.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Rose Marie Welcker, her husband of 42 years, Robert Vernon Gailliot Sr., and her son, Robert Vernon Gailliot Jr., who died July 11.
She is survived by three children, Elizabeth M. Gailliot and husband, Patton Graham, of Marion, Ursula Gailliot Koeze and husband, Todd Koeze, of Charlottesville; Christopher R. Gailliot and wife, Bethany Gailliot, of Wilmington, Ohio; daughter-in-law Lisa Joan Crews and husband, Brett Yates, of Fresno, Calif.; ten grandchildren, Alec, Ade, Grae, Princeton, Robert, Greta, Robert, Emma, Ann, and Sam; niece Yvonne Welcker Sepulveda of Miami; two brothers-in-law of Alexandria, Clemens S. Gailliot and wife, Patricia R. Gailliot, and Thomas A. Gailliot and wife, Betty Ann Gailliot; sister-in-law Theresa A. Gailliot of Burke; several cousins, nieces and nephews; special friends Wayne and Florence Funk; and special caregiver, Bonnie Greer of Atkins.
A Mass of Ressurrection will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Marion Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m. with a burial and committal service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alexandria Friday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. In memory remembrances may be made to Hinds Hospice, 1616 West Shaw Ave., Fresno, CA 93711. Mary E. Green, 66, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, in Orlando, Fla.
She was born in Pageton, W.Va. She came to Brevard County in 2004 from Dale City. She worked for Business Services.
Survivors include her husband, Curtis Green; children, Sherri and Jim Goldsmith of Camden, Del., Trina and Bob Gilbert of Fredericksburg, Z. Dawn Davis and Tom Reynolds of Warrenton and Carla and Ed Kieckhefer of Centreville; grandchildren, Nicholas and Danielle Gilbert, Thomas Reynolds, Elizabeth and Frederick Kieckhefer, and Kristina and Amanda Niblett; father and mother-in-law, Oscar and Sylvia Reams; sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Shelton Wyatt of Port Deposit, Md., Doris Crabtree of New Castle, Del., Kay Conley of Port Deposit, Md., Gail and Dave Peterson of Anchorage, Ala., Joyce Pruitt of Front Royal, Margaret and Ernie Burdette of White Sulfur, W.Va., and Connie Shew of Titusville, Fla.

James Paul (Jim) Hamm, 87, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, at Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.
Survivors include his wife, Mary St. John Hamm; daughter and son-in-law, Martha H. and Charles Eller of Chilhowie; son and daughter-in-law, David and Shirley Hamm of Marion; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Hamm of Maryland; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; five sisters, Blanche Lewis of North Carolina, Alice Jackson and Betty Taylor, both of Indiana, Ruby Sparks of Chilhowie and Elizabeth Hamm of Marion; a special brother-in-law, Robert St. John; and a special nephew, Clarence Hamm.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday evening, Aug. 30, 2007, at Williams Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Wesley Eller officiated the services. Graveside services were held Friday morning, Aug. 31, 2007, at Mountain View Cemetery.

Harris
Raymond Eugene Harris, 76, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was the owner-operator of the R.C. Harris Trucking Co., a U.S. Army veteran and a graduate of Emory & Henry College.
Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Freida Harris of Glade Spring, David and Judy Harris of Emory, Mike and Joy Harris of Glade Spring, Kenneth and Deana Harris of Marion and Dean and Hilda Harris of Glade Spring; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sue Burke, Lynn and Cecil Sheets, and Sherry Harris, all of Glade Spring, and Leisa and Allen Heath of Meadowview; caregiver and companion, Patricia Harris of Glade Spring; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Anne and Jim Litton, Daphine Blevins and Patsy and Bill Galliher, all of Glade Spring; brother-in-law, Lewis Orfield; special friend and cousin, Buck Davidson; and 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at the Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery with Jim Litton officiating.

King
Neal Stanley King IV, 3, of Wytheville, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
He was born April 15, 2004, in Marion.
Survivors include his parents, Neal III and Renea Foglesong King; sister, Caroline King; paternal grandparents, Margaret King, Stanley Jr. and Wanda King, all of Wytheville; maternal grandparents, Jeff and Dawn Foglesong of Rural Retreat; paternal great-grandparents, Stanley Sr. and Darlene King of Wytheville; maternal great-grandmother, Thelma Foglesong of Rural Retreat; maternal great-grandmother, Emily Fisher of Rural Retreat; maternal great-grandfather, Harold Buckley, of Rural Retreat; aunts and uncles, Jeffrey Foglesong of Rural Retreat, Geoff and Stacey Miller of Little Rock, Ark., Travis and Tabitha Lefler of Rural Retreat and Margaret Sutherland of Wytheville; and a host of family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at 8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel.

Overbay
Claude Elbert Overbay, 93, of Granite Falls, N.C., died Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 29, 1913, in Atkins to the late Junius and Callie Spencer Overbay. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Julia Erwood and Leler Patterson; a son-in-law, Arthur January; a great-grandson, James Claude January; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas Overbay and Tyler Overbay.
He retired after 23 years at Broyhill as superintendent of Harper Furniture and then as process engineer at the Broyhill Corporate Office. After retirement, he served 18 years as the pastor of Altapass Church of God near Spruce Pine. He had a heart for missions. He supported many missions and traveled to Haiti, India, Grand Cayman and Cuba.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Ella Mae Gillespie Overbay of the home; a daughter, Trillian (Tillie) S. January; three sons and daughters-in-law, T.J. and Lillian Overbay of Concord, Alfred and Shirley Overbay of Boone and Larry and Carole Overbay of Lenoir; a sister, O’Dessa Robinette of Atkins; and 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life was held Thursday morning, Aug. 30, 2007, at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Revs. Ronald Leasure, Hoyt Runion and Mike Spicer. Interment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Paris Shelton, 82, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was born in Grayson County and preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas Blevins and Mildred Lura Barker Blevins; her husband, the Rev. Gilbert L. Shelton; a son, Donald William Shelton; a daughter, Dinah Rebecca Morris; two brothers, Earl Blevins and Albert Blevins; three sisters, Blanche Russell, Wilma Rotenberry and Mabel Vernon; and a great-grandson, Billy Shelton.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Herbert Shelton of Marion, Joseph and Marie Shelton of Lancaster, Ohio, Mitchell and Pam Shelton of Sugar Grove; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Frank Yarber of Glade Spring and Sandy and Jeff White of Rhoadesville; two sisters, Ruby Woods of Marion and Marie King of Groseclose; daughter-in-law, Barbara Shelton of Marion; son-in-law, Dennis Morris of Marion; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
