Brown

Harold A. Brown, 73, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at Indian Path Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
He was a retired employee of Marley Moldings and a member of the Rich Valley Farmers Club.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Sophie Brown; seven daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Charles Funderburk and Vicki and Richard Hampton, all of Lakeland, Fla., Kathy Reynolds of Rich Valley, Bobbie and John Dowd of Polk City, Fla., Penny Shiner and Ken Carr and Debbie Crone, all of Lakeland, Fla., and Nicole Brown of Saltville; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Bill and Wilma Brown and Jimmy Brown, all of Lakeland, Fla.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Rufus Glass, Barbara Watkins and Linda and Eddie Nix, all of Lakeland, Fla.; and 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007, at Henderson Funeral Home with Bill Brown officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at the Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring with military rites by Hardy Roberts V.F.W. Post #7328.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007, prior to the services.

Chapman

Ronald C. “Ronnie” Chapman, 52, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and June Osborne Chapman. He was an outdoorsman, loved hunting and his horses. He was a loving father and friend.
Survivors include one son, Ryan Chapman, and friend, Nakisha Casey of Saltville; caregiver and companion, Mary Haynes Chapman of Chilhowie; brother, Ken Chapman of Saltville; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services were conducted Friday morning, Sept. 7, 2007, at Henderson Funeral Home. The Revs. Renolds Frye, Clarence Frye and Bob Surber officiated the services. Burial followed in the Elizabeth Cemetery.
The family received friends Thursday evening, Sept. 6, 2007, at the funeral home.

Goad

Tracie Cardwell Goad, 34, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at her home in Radford, surrounded by her family.
She was born on Jan. 28, 1973 to Roger and Peggy Hayden Cardwell. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Melvin and Gladys Cardwell and Leo and Cleo Hayden; one aunt, Sissy Sheets; and an uncle, Roy Hayden.
She was a 1991 graduate of Chilhowie High School and had received her associate’s degree in child development from New River Valley Community College and had been employed at several child care centers and at Kroger. She attended Christiansburg Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include her loving husband, Ron Goad of Radford; her parents, Roger and Peggy Cardwell of Chilhowie; one brother, Joe Cardwell of Chilhowie; mother-in-law, Claudine Goad of Radford; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill and Lou Ellen Goad of Carroll Co., Allen Goad, Mike Goad, and Peggy Caldwell, all of Radford; one special uncle, “Docie” Sheets; several other loving aunts and uncles; her godchildren,
Whitney and Isaac; very special friends, Althea, Mary, Shelly, Jennifer, Brian and Angie Jackson; many other special friends and acquaintances over the years; and special family pets, Tipper and Boots.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at the Bradley’s Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie with Pastor Don Medley, Dr. David Hurd and Pastor Shirley Carter officiating. Interment will follow in the Thomas Beasley Cemetery in Hillsville.

Martin

Edith Delta Eller Martin, 79, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Pearl Eller, and sister, Edna Edmiston.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Vester (Veck) Earl Martin; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda and Larry Hamm and Janet Hope Kirby, all of Chilhowie; one son, Earl Wright Martin of Chilhowie; four grandchildren, Tammie Lynn Kirby, Brent Lee Kirby, Michael Allen Martin, Lori Ann Hamm; one great-grandson, Devin James Kirby; one brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Lillian Eller of Chilhowie; sister, Isabell Shepard of Marion; special family friend, Kenny Meadows; and also several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was conducted Sunday afternoon, Sept. 2, 2007, at Mountain View Cemetery in Chilhowie. Pastor Frank Branson officiated the services.
Flowers were appreciated or donations may be made to the Mountain View Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 1722, Chilhowie, Va. 24319.
The family received friends Saturday evening, Sept. 1, 2007, at the Chilhowie Christian Church.

Offield

Conley Lee Offield, 84, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
He was a U.S. Army veteran receiving two Purple Hearts. He was a loving father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie G. Offield; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra Mabe and Patty and Bill Ogle, all of Marion; one brother, Billy Offield of Charlottesville; one sister, Cecil Eddy of Glade Spring; three grandchildren, Lori Ann Mabe, Robin Coleman and Jonathan Ogle; two great-grandchildren, Carly Mabe and Frankie Coleman; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted Friday afternoon, Sept. 7, 2007, in the Mount Rose Cemetery Mausoleum. The Rev. Pat Gilbert officiated the services.

Oquinn

Bobby Lee Oquinn, 62, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gussie and Ellen Oquinn; sisters, Maxie Talbert and Lottie Maye Oquinn Harris; and brother, Lonnie Oquinn.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Carol Oquinn; three daughters and a son-in-law, Connie and Travis Harper, Tammy Oquinn and Crystal Oquinn, all of Chilhowie; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scottie and Tina Hoffer of Ohio and Randall Oquinn and Janet Burchett of Chilhowie; three sisters, Toni Puckett of Ohio, Mary Oquinn of Meadowview and Ruby Oquinn of Seven Mile Ford; brother and sister-in-law, J.W. and Rachel Oquinn of Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Tyer, Lake, Leighann Breedlove, Bailey Atwell, Logan Harper, Kaitlyn O’Quinn, Dalton O’Quinn, Damian O’Quinn, Stephanie and Tiffany Hoffer; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon, Sept.7, 2007, at Henderson Funeral Home. The Rev. Roger Oquinn officiated the services. Burial followed in the Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring.

Patrick

Robert Clarence Patrick Jr., 69, of Woodford, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, in Carriage Hill Nursing Home in Fredericksburg. He was born Jan. 22, 1938 in North Holston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert C. Patrick Sr. and Mary Evelyn Roberts, and daughter, Deborah.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Joseph and Summer; sister and brother-in-law, Jo Anne Patrick and John Neal of Dumfries; two nephews, Mark Daniel Neal of Dale City and Steven Neal of South Lake, Texas; and seven nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at 8 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Rich Valley. The family received friends Friday evening, Sept. 7, 2007, at the funeral home.

Taylor

JoAnn Taylor, 70, died at her home Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007.
She was a member of the Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church and a 10-year member of the Saltville Rescue Squad.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George O. (Chick) Taylor; her parents, David A. and Mary Stella Talbert; three sisters, Ura Katherine Brooks, Shelby Jean Talbert, and Mable Lee Davidson; two brothers, Clarence E. Talbert and Robert D. Talbert; three brothers-in-law, Claude E. Davidson, Robert A. Harris and Curtis (Curt) Taylor.
Survivors include a son, George Mason Taylor; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Virginia P. Harris and Frances (Frankie) and Major H. Bordwine, all of Saltville; brother and a sister-in-law, Jack C. and Mary Ann Tolbert of Richmond; three sisters-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Tolbert, Lois Taylor and husband, Curtis, and Benita Taylor, all of Saltville; and a brother-in-law, Wilbur Brooks of Chilhowie. 
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007, at Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Clarence Frye officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Rose Cemetery.
