Bise
Lee Irdell Bise Sr., 83, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his late wife, Helen Doane Bise; his mother and father, Mamie Jones Bise and Otis Bise Sr.; and brother, Burton Bise.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Dunn Bise; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lee (Butch) Jr. and Janet Bise of Saltville and Michael and Debbi Bise of Meadowview; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Otis and Jean Bise of Saltville, Lowell Mason and Patsy Bise of Glade Spring and Jack and Wanda Bise of Estelle Springs, Tenn.; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Girthel and Ed Smith of High Springs, Fla., Charlotte Spencer of Chilhowie, Patsy Tilson of Marion and Dot and Ronnie Fore of Glade Spring; other survivors include Virginia’s children and grandchildren; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon, Sept. 28, 2007, at the Mount Pleasant Union Church. The Rev. David Bise and the Rev. Chuck Blevins officiated the services. Burial followed in the Mount Rose Cemetery with the Saltville V.F.W. conducting military rites.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Saltville Rescue Squad, P.O. Drawer D, Saltville, Va. 24370, or the Alzheimers Association, STAR – 4400 N. Mesa, Suite 9, El Paso, Texas 79902.

Boone
Walter Jackson Boone, 95, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, in Salemtowne Retirement Center in Winston- Salem, N.C.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion, where he also served on the Administrative Board. He went to work for the Marion Police Force in 1941, and on June 18, 1954, was made Chief of Police. While serving as Chief of Police, one of his greatest accomplishments was being able to get the Police Department on the Virginia Retirement System. He served as Chief of Police until he retired in July 1975. After retirement, he served on the Town Council. In May 2006, he moved to Salemtowne Retirement Center, residing there until his death. His pride and joy in life was his family.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Goldie Bourne Boone and Dorothy Carrico Boone; one brother; and two sisters.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann and Jim Smith of Centreville; one son and daughter-in-law, James Preston and Phyllis Boone of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Sandra and Don Cress of Marion; one brother, Hiram Vance Boone of Richmond; five grandchildren, Andrea Leigh Boone, Jennifer Lynn Boone, J. Matthew Smith and wife, Penn, Amy Elizabeth Roesner and husband, Gary, and Julie Ann Fiorino and husband Anthony; four great-grandchildren with one on the way; two step-grandchildren, Robin Buchanan and husband, Jimmy, and Kim Poston and husband, Ron; four step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Marion the Rev. Jeff Lambert officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion.

Doss
Oscar Lee Doss, 65, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jane Felty Doss; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Lee Doss of Salisbury, Md., Larry and Robin Boardwine of Meadowview and Brian Dwayne and Michelle Doss of Chilhowie; 13 grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Ann Doss of Chilhowie; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Bernie Moore of Chilhowie and Janie and Charles Young of Marion; a special sister-in-law, Margaret Carroll; special friends, Crystal and Mark Miller; and also several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday evening, Sept. 19, 2007, at Williams Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Roger D. Counts officiated the services. Graveside services were conducted Thursday morning, Sept. 20, 2007 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
The family received friends Wednesday evening, Sept. 19, 2007, prior to the funeral service.

Eskridge
Richard S. “Ricky” Eskridge, 30, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Price Eskridge; daughter, Ariel Jade Eskridge, of the home; mother and step father, Patricia and Stephen E. McAllister of Saltville; one brother, Stephen Brandon McAllister of Saltville; paternal grandparents, Barbara and Blaine Huffman of Damascus; special father-in-law, Robert “Bobby” Price; sister-in-law, Kayla Hayter; nieces, Paige and Trinity; aunts and uncles, Dreama and Harry Rouse, David and Kathy Eskridge, Eddie and Carrie Eskridge and Curtis Eskridge.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, in the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Gilbert officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, prior to the service.

Fletcher
Patsie Louise Anderson Fletcher, 69, of Damascus, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at her residence.
She was a beloved wife, mother, and friend. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Damascus and was a woman of great faith. She had a tremendous heart and truly cared for others. She touched many lived during her brief stay here on earth and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Ann Anderson; a brother, Roger Anderson; and several other family members and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, James Ray Fletcher; her daughter, Victoria Ann Fletcher of Damascus; two sisters, Phyllis Gentry and Betty Lewis; one brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Kim Anderson; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many special friends.
Patsie donated her body to the Anatomical Society in hopes of helping others in the future.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at the First Baptist Church in Damascus with Pastors Alan McCullough, Wayne Guynn and David Griffin officiating. Music will be provided by Eddie Shelton, Pastors Alan McCullough and David Griffin.

Grubb
Daniel Leonard “D.L.” Grubb Jr., died 39, of Tobaccoville, N.C., formerly of Wytheville, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem.
He was born July 27, 2007, 1968, in Wytheville. He was preceded in death by his brother, Derick Grubb and a brother-in-law, Butch Ferguson.
Throughout the years, he has been employed by Fort Chiswell Construction, TRW in Atkins and most recently, Hutchinson Sealing in Wytheville until 2005.
Survivors include his parents, Daniel and Helen Grubb of Wytheville; his partner, Gernie David Hall of Tobaccoville, N.C.; a sister, Louise Ferguson; a brother and sister-in-law, Joey Grubb and Samantha Walk; two nieces, Kellie Ferguson and Tori Grubb, of Wytheville; and a nephew, R.J. Grubb, of Wytheville.
Funeral services were held Thursday evening, Sept. 27, 2007, at the Barnett Funeral Chapel. Graveside services were held Friday afternoon, Sept. 28, 2007, in Graham Cemetery in Barren Springs.
Flowers were appreciated or those who prefer may make memorial donations to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, 1100-C Stradford Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.

Oakley
Mattie P. Oakley, 76, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, at her home in Atkins.
She was born in Ohio to the late Timothy L. and Clara Meacham Powell. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers, Merrel Powell, Emanuel Powell, Bill Powell and Clayton Powell; two sisters, Odessa Gilbert and Iola Foster; and a brother-in-law, Ray Miller.
She was a Registered Nurse at Southwestern Virginia State Mental Institute and was a member of Groseclose First Church of God.
Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, Carlton Oakley; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Linda Oakley of Rural Retreat; one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Dennis Smith of Blacksburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Donnie and Bonnie Powell of Graham, N.C.; one sister, Faith “Babe” Miller of Reidsville, N.C.; three grandchildren, Terry Edwards, Lisa Peer, Brantley “Nana’s Little Angel” Oakley ;two great-grandchildren, Charlie Peer and James Peer; special friends, Gail Buck, Charlene Harden, Shirley Williams, Ruby Overbay, Donna and Daniel Smith; and many other loving family members and friends
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Sept. 28, 2007, at Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Bernard Dingus officiated the services. Interment followed in Roselawn Cemetery.
