Blevins

Loretta S. Blevins, 68, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007.
She was a lifelong member of the Cleghorn Baptist Church and a faithful, loving, dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Stamper.
Survivors include her husband, Ronnie Blevins; son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Carolyn Blevins; daughter, Shelia Blevins; three grandchildren; mother, Louise Stamper; and one brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Janet Stamper.
Funeral services were conducted Friday evening, Oct. 5, 2007, at Cleghorn Baptist Church. The Revs. Wesley Eller, Carl Wilson and Dennis Eller officiated the services. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at the Cleghorn Cemetery.
The family received friends Friday evening, Oct. 5, 2007, prior to the funeral services.
Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie is in charge of arrangements.

Bradley

Iva Starling Bradley, 87, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at her home in Marion.
She was born in Chilhowie to the late James and Bertha Blevins Starling and was preceded in death by her husband, George Bradley; a son, Charles William Bradley; a daughter, Carolyn Connie Russell; grandson, Anthony Tony Russell; one brother, Ralph Starling; three sisters, Sadie York, Ruby Musser and Edna Starling.
She faithfully attended the Lowman Valley Church.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, David and Wilma Bradley of Marion; son- in-law, Bobby Russell of Marion; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lillian Bush and Barbara and Rayburn Hutton, all of Marion; six grandchildren, Chad Russell, Todd Russell, Shannon Breedlove, Jamie Bradley, Don Bradley, Tim Bradley; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews and her church family at Lowman Valley Church and many loving friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday evening, Oct. 3, 2007, at the Bradley’s Funeral Chapel in Marion. The Pastor Steve Hutton officiated the services. Entombment was held Thursday morning, Oct. 4, 2007, at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Lowman Valley Church, 1968 Scratch Gravel Rd., Marion, Va. 24354. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at http://www.bradleysfh.com.

Bridges

Hannah Elizabeth Bridges, 22, of Rural Retreat, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, in New River Valley Medical Center.
She was born in Bluefield, W.Va., June 12, 1985, and was preceded in death by her grandfather, Emery Garland Tibbs; an uncle, Wayne Tibbs; and an infant cousin, Emery Wayne Tibbs Jr.
Survivors include her parents, Tommy and Patty Bridges of the home; a brother, Matthew Corey Bridges, of the home; maternal grandmother, Ruth Tibbs of Rural Retreat; paternal grandparents, Fred and Mozelle Bridges of Rural Retreat; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday evening, Oct. 4, 2007, at the Rural Retreat Baptist Church. The Rev. Jason McNeese officiated the services. A graveside committal service was held Friday morning, Oct. 5, 2007, at Mountain View Cemetery.
The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Rural Retreat Volunteer Emergency Services or to the charity of one’s choice.
The family received friends Thursday evening, Oct. 4, 2007, at the church, prior to the service.

Dean

Glen Dean, 45, of Meadowview, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
He was a native of Scott County, Tenn., and had lived in Maryland and northern Virginia for many years prior to moving to Washington County in 1995. He retired from Lowe’s Home Center and was a huge Holston Cavalier fan and enjoyed watching all sporting activities.
He was a son of Harold and Joan Dean of Damascus.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Anna Dean; three sons, Joshua Dean, Zachary Dean and Caleb Dean, all of Meadowview; two granddaughters, Adrienne Ashby and Bailey Dean, both of Meadowview; two sisters, Teresa Dean and Natalie Casey, both of Damascus; one brother, James Dean of Manassas; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday morning, Oct. 4, 2007, at the graveside at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus. David Matlock officiated the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorial contributions be sent to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Va. 23060. Condolences may be sent to the family and a video memorial tribute may be viewed by visiting http://www.garrettfufneralhome.com.

Doane

Gordon Stewart Doane, 74, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Ida Doane of Rich Valley; three brothers, David Butch, Caroll and Ronald Doane; and two sisters, Anna LiCausie and Eleanor Elizabeth Doane.
Survivors include two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyde and Millie Doane of Woodbine, Md., and Douglas and Elizabeth Doane of Abingdon; four sisters, Lillian Cooper of Marion, Mamie Harris of Rich Valley, Shirley Coe of Saltville and Louise and Pat Hinkson of Clarksville, Md.; and 32 nieces and nephews. 
Funeral services were conducted Friday evening, Oct. 5, 2007, in the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Jones and Pastor Bill Haywood officiated the services. 
Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
The family received friends Friday evening, Oct. 5, 2007, prior to the service.

Gillespie

Ossie Mozella Gillespie, 91, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007,  in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was born in Grayson County to the late William B. and Mittie Sutherland Wright. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Levi “Dub” Gillespie; five brothers, Ralph Wright, Neal Wright, Howard Wright, Leon Wright and Dean Wright; and two sisters, Lollie Graybeal and Levonia Heron.
She had worked at Bonham’s Cannery and was a member of Chilhowie Baptist Church for more than 25 years.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Harold “Butch” and Judy Gillespie of Glade Spring; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Roscoe Vanhoy of Chilhowie and Charlotte and Rhudy Bise of Glade Spring; one brother and sister-in-law, Claude and Monnie Wright of Chatsworth, Ga.; her grandchildren, Mike Bise, Randy Bise, Tony Bise, Carmen Helton, Jeff Vanhoy, Andy Vanhoy, Chris Gillespie and Cindy Tolbert; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday evening, Oct. 4, 2007, at the Bradley’s Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie. Pastor Chuck Herrell and the Rev. Eugene Baldwin officiated the services. Graveside services were held Friday morning, Oct. 5, 2007, at the Middlefork Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at http://www.bradleysfh.com.

Pardoe

Mary Ethel Johnson Pardoe, 88, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, in the Francis Marion Manor.
She was born in North Carolina to the late Sherman and Lockie Roop Johnson and was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Pardoe, and eleven brothers and sisters.
She attended the Konnarock Training School and the Marion College. She lived in the Whitetop community for several years and in Baltimore, Md., from the early 1940s until 1993. After the death of her husband, she moved back to Marion.
Survivors include one brother, Edgar Johnson of Roanoke; one sister, Emma Peake of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday evening, Oct. 5, 2007, in the Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel. Seminarian Lucy Schottelkorb officiated the services. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at Thomas Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at http://www.bradleysfh.com

Sawyers

Thelma Rhea Poole Sawyers, 91, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, in the Valley Health Care Center.
She was born in Pennsylvania to the late C.M. and Myrtle Alice Poole. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” J. Sawyers, and one grandson, Richard “Tony” Anthony Cirillo.
She was a lifelong resident of Smyth County and was the last charter member of East End Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Peggy and Lloyd Simons, Nancy and Don Bales, Don and Janet Sawyers and Lyndia and Dennis Johnson, all of Marion; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Lloyd and Johnsie Poole of Christiansburg and Ralph Poole of Dublin; her grandchildren, Ricky Simons, Mike Simons, Brian Simons, Sonja Shelton, and Darrin McIntyre; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at the Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Humfleet and the Rev. Randy Meade officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.
