Barrack
Norma Dinkins Barrack, 66, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008 at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was a loved school teacher who taught in Newport News, Roanoke and Smyth County. She especially enjoyed her work and many friends at McDonalds.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Byrd Dinkins and Elizabeth Dinkins.
Survivors include four sisters, Jo Ann Blevins, and husband, Charles, Bristol, Nancy Mays and husband, Jerry, Chilhowie, Becky Powers and husband, Clay, Chilhowie, Mary Lynn Lawson and husband, K.W., Chilhowie; one aunt, Alice Virginia Cress; and one uncle, Joe Edmiston, and wife, Virginia.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Lebanon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Luther Roberts and the Rev. William “Bill” Graybeal officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at Williams Funeral Home, Chilhowie.

Bonham
Grover Kyle Bonham, 80, died Oct. 1, 2008 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was born in Sugar Grove to the late Charlie Millard and Vinnie Bonham. He moved to Maryland where he worked for Baltimore Gas and Electric. Upon his retirement in 1990, he returned to Sugar Grove. He enjoyed spending time with family, beekeeping, gardening, fishing, crabbing and doing word-search puzzles. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He was preceded in death by his son, Edwin Dewayne Bonham, sisters, Mabel Waller, and Eva Spencer, and brother, Lawrence Bonham.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Maggie; two daughters, Sheila Griffin and husband, Ross, of Port Deposit, Md., Katrina Bayer and husband, Jeff, of Sugar Grove; grandchildren, Tonya Kerins and husband, Joe, of Jarrettsville, Md., John Huffman of Marion, Andrew Huffman of Port Deposit, Md., Ryan, Daniel and Nicholas Bayer of Sugar Grove; great-grandchildren, Brady and Alaina Kerins; siblings, Margie Cox and Lucille Testerman, both of Delaware, Robert Bonham and wife, Hattie, of Bel Air, Md., Genell Blevins and husband, Jim, of Bristol, Martha Robinson and husband, Bobby, of Sugar Grove, Sharon Reedy and husband, Earlie, of Troutdale, Ralph Bonham, and wife, Barbara, of Sugar Grove, and Wanda Sumner of Galax.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Beck officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery.
The family received friends Friday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.

Brickey
Cynthia J. Brickey, 99, died on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008 at her home.
She was the oldest member of Roberts Chapel Church in Broadford where she had taught Sunday school and served as president of the United Methodist Women for over 20 years. She was adored by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Q. Brickey Sr. and son, John Q. Brickey Jr.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy Carter and husband, Al; and daughter-in-law, Patsy Archer Brickey of Broadford; grandchild, Pam Crawford and husband, Todd, of Blanchard, Okla.; great- grandchildren, Carter and Mac Kinnon Crawford of Blanchard, Okla.; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Starks, the Rev. Donald Bailey, and the Rev. Bill Cahill officiating. Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Riverside Cemetery.
The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday prior to the service.

Edmisten
Betty Campbell “Toy” Edmisten, 69, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 in the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
She was born in Smyth County to the late Rev. Henry and Louise Warren Campbell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Campbell, and a nephew, Eric Martin. She was a graduate of the Johnston Memorial School of Nursing and retired from Smyth County Community Hospital as an operating room nurse with over 37 years of service.
Survivors include her sisters, Ann Martin of Marion, Wanda Owens and husband, Jim, of Marion, Becky Campbell of Marion; brother, Bob Campbell and wife, Betty, of Marion; several aunts and uncles; several special nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and several special friends including the Red Hat Ladies of Saltville.
Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with the Rev. Mike Patrick officiating.
The family received friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Greer
Virginia Pauline Greer, 83, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 at her home.
She was born in Smyth County on Aug. 27, 1925 to the late William Bent and Arfie Rich. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis C. Greer, three brothers, James Rich, Roy Rich and Clarence Rich, a son-in-law, the Rev. Harold Martin, and great-grandson, Bryant Greer.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Greer and wife, Dorothy, and Billy Greer and wife, Janet; one daughter, Mildred Greer Martin; her grandchildren, Jerry Martin, Angela Bise, Chris Greer, Robin Jones, Travis Greer, Chad Greer, Alan Greer, Kim Umberger, and Lesa Hawkins; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Viola Alexander and husband, Buddy, Edith McMillan, and Sarah Eller; sisters-in-law, Janie Rich and Joan Rich; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, from Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with the Rev. David Neitch, the Rev. Herman Cress and the Rev. Jason McNeese officiating. Interment will follow in the Thomas Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hayden
Nannie Wolfe Hayden, 75, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 in Eden Pines Nursing Home in Hampton.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Rick Simons of Hampton, Tammy and Ron Long of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Robin and Dayl Coomer of Schuylkill Haven, Penn.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Nora Lee and Wade Comer of Marion, Ozena and Sherwood Anderson of Marion, and Edna and Bill McClure of Chilhowie; four grandchildren, Brandon Simons, Kelly Long, Brian Simons, and Michelle Long; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Oct. 2, at 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel, with the Rev. Herman Cress officiating. Graveside services were conducted Friday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. at Hutton Cemetery, Marion.
The family received friends Thursday from 6 p.m. until time of the service at Seaver-Brown Chapel or anytime at the home of June Simons, 922 Cumberland St., Marion.

Lafferty
Larry Stephen Lafferty Sr., 58, of Galax, died Sunday, September 28, 2008 at Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax.
He is preceded in death by his parent’s Orville and Rhonda Lafferty.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Lafferty and wife, Amy, of Galax, Jeff Allen Lafferty of Marion, and Scott Lamar Lafferty and wife, Tammy, of Marion; one brother, William Earl Lafferty and wife, Rhonda, of Georgia; and one sister, Linda Kay Maddox of Wytheville; and nine grandchildren.
Family received friends on Friday, Oct. 3, at Twin County Funerals from 12 to 2 with memorial service to follow in the Twin County Funerals Sanctuary.

Robinson
Donald Eugene Robinson, 70, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 in Valley Health Care Center.
He was born in Castlewood on March 6, 1938 to the late Wayne and Leona Hall Robinson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Robinson, and an infant sister. He was a member of Little Rock Baptist Church and had been employed as a supervisor at the Merillat Corporation.
Survivors include his loving wife, Lois Robinson; one son, Dennis Robinson, Chilhowie; one sister, Lydia Dean, Roanoke; his stepmother, Nevada Robinson; one stepbrother, Junior Dye; one grandson, Tanner Robinson; loving daughter-in-law, Carla Robinson; brothers-in-law, George Burke, Jim Burke, Ronnie Burke, Don Dean; sisters-in-law, Wanda Hicks, Betty Phillips, Patsy Rose, and Jean Robinson.
Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, from Bradley’s Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie with the Rev. Buster Mullins and the Rev. Joe Powers officiating.
The family received friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel. A graveside service was held Friday, Oct. 3, at 4 p.m. at Mt. View United Methodist Church Cemetery.
