Adams

James Thomas (Tom) Adams, 78, of Independence, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008 at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital, Winston- Salem, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Campbell Adams.
He was born Feb. 2, 1930 in Helen, W.Va., to the late Melvin H. and Retta Haga Adams.
Survivors include two daughters and spouses, Mildred Jean (Sue) and Frank Anderson of Independence and Janice and Kenneth Sapp of Elk Creek; one son and spouse, Tony and Christine Adams of Independence; five sisters and spouses, Margaret and Thomas Hayden, Mildred Holley and Beulah Branson, all of Chilhowie, Elsie and Harry Cruey of Prince George, and Bernice Thweat of Atkins; two brothers and spouses, Dick and Johnnie Adams and Ronnie and Linda Adams, all of Chilhowie; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Sept. 27, in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, Independence. Interment was in Campbell Family Cemetery, Troutdale, with Elder Dean Shepherd, the Rev. James Smith and John Lee Suit officiating. Military rites conducted by Grayson County VFW Post 7726.
Memorial contributions may be made to Independence Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 607, Independence.

Blevins

Blaine Delbert Blevins, 86, of Damascus, the Green Cove Community, died Sept. 26, 2008 at the home of his son, Bobby Blevins in Damascus.
He was born June 25, 1922 at Mt. Hope, W.Va., to the late Gordon J. and Margaret Blevins Blevins.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Juanita Blevins; one son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Kathy Blevins of Damascus; one granddaughter and husband, Tina and Kent Parks of Damascus; one great-grandson, Israel Parks “Little Henry;” brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Mary Alice Cornett and Opal Hart, all of Damascus, Elbert and Martha Pennington, Lee and Alma Pennington and Mezelle Greer, all of Green Cove, Harley Pennington, Louvella Pennington, both of Chilhowie, and Burby Blevins of E. Bend, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Sunday, Sept. 28, in Green Cove Baptist Church, Damascus, with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Leonard Penney officiated.
Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Buchanan

Barbara Ruth Buchanan, 84, of Roanoke, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Edward and Ada Coulthard Buchanan, and five brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include two sisters, Eleanor Foster and Evelyn Preston, both of Roanoke; several nieces and nephews, including James Buchanan and Kenneth, Edward, Leon, and David Keesee, all of Roanoke.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Ridgedale Cemetery in Rich Valley.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville is in charge of arrangements.
Carico

Charles H. “Jake” Carico Sr., 91, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 at his home.
He was born in Smyth County to the late Wiley Boyd Carrico and Ettie Blance Kell Carrico and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Juanita Doane “Sis” Carico, a son and daughter-in- law, Wiley Calvin Carrico and Ruth Carrico, a granddaughter, Susie Carrico, granddaughter, grandson-in-law and great-granddaughter, Vanessa, Joey and Jaylein Evans, three sons-in-law, Jerry Hart, the Rev. Gary Blackwell, and David Helton, and a daughter-in-law, Teresa Carrico. 
He was a member of the Chilhowie Church of God and was retired from the state Highway Department with over 40 years of service.
Survivors include seven children, Charles H. Carrico Jr., and wife, Alda, of Marion, Yvonne Helton of Marion, Patsy Hart of Marion, David Carrico and wife, Kathy, of Marion, Brenda Alley and husband, Able, of Marion, Linda Blackwell of Marion, and Nathan Carrico of Chilhowie; son-in-law, Jimmy Gilley of Marion; sister, Louise Avery of Mississippi; brother, Preston Carrico of Hopewell; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at Chilhowie Church of God with the Rev. Kenneth Barnes officiating. Interment followed in Middlefork Cemetery.
The family received friends Sunday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the Chilhowie Church of God.

Heninger

Molly Hayes Heninger, 82, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 at Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland L. Heninger Jr., and one son, Wayne Heninger.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy E. and Linda Heninger of Salem and Cary and Mary Heninger, Chilhowie; one daughter-in-law, Janis Humphries; four grandchildren, Beth, Leigh Ann, Jamie, and Garrett; four great-grandchildren; and several special friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at Chilhowie Christian Church with the Rev. Frank Branson and the Rev. Jerry Creasy officiating.
The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the church.
A graveside service was conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Middle Fork Cemetery.
Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie was in charge of arrangements.

Robinson

Allene H. Robinson, 60, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008 at Valley Health Care Center.
She was born in Smyth County to the late Roscoe and Ida Hall Henderson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Donald Robinson.
Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca Connie Gilley and husband, Larry, of Chilhowie, and Wanda Walton of Marion; one brother, Allen Henderson of Atkins; three sisters, Oma Jean King of Marion, Christine Hall of Atkins, and Lena Hutton of Chilhowie; three grandchildren; Benjamin Logan Gilley, Amber Nicole Walton, and Timothy James Walton; two special nieces, Elizabeth Edmiston and Carolyn McAllister; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with the Rev. Kenneth Hall and the Rev. Joe Powers officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Simpson

Virginia D. “Ginny” Simpson, 87, widow of Robert E. Simpson, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 at her home in Marion. 
She was especially appreciative to her Bridge Club friends who so graciously welcomed her to Marion. 
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and James Esper of Woodbridge and Nan and Everett Neese of Marion; one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Alvin and Betty Simpson and Annabelle Gronemann, all of St. Louis, Miss.; two grandchildren, Morgan and Matthew Neese; and several nieces and nephews. 
Memorial services were conducted Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Marion, with the Rev. Jonathan Jonas officiating. 
The family received friends following the service. 
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 115 S. Church St., Marion, VA 24354 or to the Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, 8336 Carrleigh Parkway, Springfield, VA 22152.

Waddle

Johnny D. Waddle, 62, died Sept. 27, 2008 at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.
He was the son of the late Elmer and Nellie Waddle.
He was a well known Rich Valley farmer who served his community in numerous ways.
Survivors include wife, Patsy S. Waddle; two sons, J.D. Waddle and wife, Jeana, and Scott Waddle and wife, Shelley; grandson, Tyler, the light of his life; and expected grandson, Brody; brothers, Wayne and Donna Waddle and boys, Greg, Travis and wife, Katie, Danny and Vicki Waddle and children, Ashleigh, Angel, and Derek; stepfather and friend, Randolph Hanshew; father and mother-in-law, Allen and Dorothy Stevenson, all of Rich Valley; brothers-in-law, Ronnie and Carol Stevenson of Glade Spring, Dave and Donna Stevenson, Louie and Lena Stevenson, Phil and Emily Stevenson, all of Rich Valley, Larry and Sue Stevenson of Marion; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Ridgedale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Will Shelton officiating.
Burial followed in the Ridgedale Cemetery.
The family received friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Monday evening at the church.
