Anderson

Margaret Ann Anderson, 55, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, in the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
She was born in Smyth County on Aug. 17, 1952. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dora Kathleen Dillow. She had been employed at the Holiday Inn in Richmond and had attended the Hope Chapel in Amelia.
Survivors include her husband, Franklin “Sonny” Anderson; one son and daughter-in-law, David Dwayne and Misty Anderson of Marion; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dianna and Michael Zacarias of Amelia, Virginia Elizabeth Anderson and April Dawn Anderson and Jamal Allen, all of Richmond; her father and step mother, Ralph E. and Sue Dillow of Saltville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Amy and David Taylor of Saltville and Brenda Dillow of Richmond; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene and Charlotte Dillow of Chesterfield, Ralph W. and Faye Dillow of Richmond and Michael Dillow of Galax; four grandchildren, Ashley and Ermelinda Zacarias, Destiny Anderson and David Lee Anderson; a very special friend of the family, Pete; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, from the Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R.L. Frye officiating.

Cullop

Roy Franklin Cullop, 75, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at his home in Seven Mile Ford, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. 
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of the Seven Mile Ford Presbyterian Church. He lived in Smyth County most of his life where he was a well known and respected businessman.  He was part owner and operator of Goodman Jewelers in Saltville and Marion and Hudson Jewelry Company of Chilhowie. He also served on the Board of Directors of First National Bank of Saltville. He also believed that it never rained on a golf course.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas B Cullop Sr. and Alverdia Hall Cullop; two brothers, Ed Cullop and Eugene Cullop, all of Marion; and one sister, Virginia Gillenwater of Bakersfield, Calif.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Betty E. Blevins Cullop; one daughter, Vicki Wilson of Seven Mile Ford; one grandson, Graham Tyler Wilson of Christiansburg; one sister, Myrtle Hall; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas B. Jr. and Louise Cullop of Marion; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Cullop of Marion and Terri Martin of Chilhowie; one brother-in-law, Fred Blevins and wife Peggy of Yorktown; one special “Buddy”, Bobby Sweat; two step-grandchildren, Austin Wilson and Wendy Wilson; two step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 
Memorial services were held Thursday evening, Oct. 11, 2007 at Seaver-Brown Funeral Service. The Rev. Bob Thornton and the Rev. Jack Stevens officiated the services. 
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Seven Mile Ford Presbyterian Church, c/o Frances Shorey, 267 Shawnee Trail, Chilhowie, Va.24319 or a charity of choice.

Erikson

Joyce C. Erikson, 71 died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, in the Francis Marion Manor.
Formerly of Seaside, Ore., she has been living in Marion since 2001 with her daughter Kathy Finch.
She was born in Portland, Ore., Dec. 4, 1935, to the late Howard and Cecelia Volz Siemssen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Burton W. Erikson; one daughter, Robin Peterson; a brother; Raymond Siemssen; and a sister, Janet Siemssen.
Throughout her married life, she was fortunate to live in so many different places such as California, Washington, Oregon, Japan, South Carolina, Utah, Arizona and Virginia. She was a loving homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she held many callings, mostly working with the youth.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and William Finch of Marion; one son, Russell Erikson of Tustin, Calif.; two brothers, David Siemssen of Fort Ludlow, Wash., and Richard Siemssen, of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Joanne Christensen of San Antonio, Texas; son-in-law, Melvin Peterson of Anchorage, Alaska; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, in Gresham, Ore. Interment will follow in Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Ore.

Evans

Angela Faye Evans, 41, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007.
She was born in North Carolina on Aug. 2, 1966 and was preceded in death by a sister, Connie Tesh. She was a loving homemaker and attended Heavenly Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Eugene Evans; her children, David McKnight and Brenda McKnight, both of Chilhowie; her father, Charles Tesh and wife Carol of Moravian Falls, N.C.; her mother, Brenda Tesh of Winston-Salem, N.C.; her grandmother, Vera Shoe of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two brothers, Dwayne Tesh and Darrell Tesh, both of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sisters, Susan Evans of Chilhowie and Linda Tesh of Winston-Salem, N.C.; special aunt, “Mama Faye”; and several other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Oct. 8, 2007, from the Bradley’s Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie. Pastor Dean Smith officiated the services. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The family received Monday afternoon, Oct. 8, 2007, at the funeral chapel.

Rogers

Annie V. Rogers, 79, of Damascus, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
She was a life long resident of Washington County and was the daughter of the late John and Ola Morgan. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, McDaniel “Dan” Rogers.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda R. and Eugene Blevins and Edith R. and John Blevins, all of Damascus; one son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Sharon Jo Rogers of Calhoun, Ga.; two brothers-in-law, Floyd Wyatt of Damascus and Robert “Junior” Rogers of Wilkesboro, N.C.; five grandsons, Bryan Blevins, Barret Blevins, Joshua Blevins, Landon Rogers and Jeffrey Rogers; one great granddaughter, Julia Rogers; a special cousin, Wanda Doss; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, in the Garrett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Lasley, the Rev. Wayne Guynn and Pastor John Davis officiating. The committal service and interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus.

Schwartz

David A. Schwartz, 74, of Richmond, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007.
He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict and later retired as Command Sergeant Major U.S. Army. He was a retired Communications Supervisor with the Richmond City Police Department. 
Survivors include his wife, Bee Anne Schwartz; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael David Schwartz of Richmond and Dr. Jeffrey V and Angela Schwartz of Mechanicsville; three grandchildren, William Andrew, David Andrew and Jeffrey Cooper Schwartz; two brothers, Ralph J. Schwartz of Marion and James E. Schwartz of Rural Retreat; and one sister, Mary L. Testerman of Seven Mile Ford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad. 
The family received friends Tuesday evening, Oct. 9, 2007, at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd.  Services and interment were private.

Smith

Carl Edward Smith, 85, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tenn.
He was a member of the Deer Valley Baptist Church, deacon, and Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Z. Smith; one son and daughter-in-law, Randy J. and Susan Smith of Dickson, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Sarah, Zachary and Seth Smith; two great grandchildren, Blaine and Jayden Smith; a special niece and husband, Reda and Bill Franklin; and special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Doris and Ralph Berry.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at Williams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Travis Ingle officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, from 1-2 p.m., prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

Thomas

George Clinton Thomas, 72, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, in the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.
He was born in Washington County on May 11, 1935, to the late William Henry and Virginia Mae Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Louise Thomas; one son, James “Jim” Hamm; and a brother, Jim Thomas.
He was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Diane Hamm, Charles Hamm and Tommy and Cindy Hamm; his daughters and a son-in-law, Marie and Allen Russell, Carol Graczyk and Nancy Sharpe; three sisters, Mary Widener, Lena McVey and Nora Mae McVey; brother-in-law and best friend, John Junior Vannoy; and 21 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday morning, Oct. 12, 2007, at the Bradley’s Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie. The Rev. Buster Mullins officiated the services. Interment followed in the Mount Olivet Cemetery.
