Cornett
Gordon Edward Cornett Sr., 82, died Saturday, April 5, 2008 at his home in Sugar Grove.
He was born in Smyth County to the late Ellis and Gertrude Haga Cornett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Vance Cornett and Ken Cornett, and two sisters, Gladys Moles Worth and Margaret Killian.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Cornett; one son, Gator Cornett and wife, Amy; four daughters including one special daughter, Beverly Lewis and husband, Eugene; his sisters, Eva James and husband, Herb, Thelma Poole and husband, Bill, Edith Akers and husband, Walt, and Mamie James; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; his brothers-in-law, Butch and Shelley Biser, Bud Biser and Jimmy Biser; his sisters-in-law, Sharon and Rocky Green, Peggy and Lynnwood Spangler, and Becky and Rennie Bare; and many special friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, from Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Slemp Cemetery.
The family received friends Monday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hall
Herman H. “Buddy” Hall, 83, died Sunday, April 6, 2008 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
He was born in Crockett to the late John Roy and Minnie Lee Hall.
He was a member of the East End Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1945 and was a lifetime member of the Francis Marion V.F.W. Post 4667.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Elizabeth Johnston Hall, and a son, Jerry M. Hall.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Candias Hall of Clintwood and Steve and Tami Hall of Pearisburg; four daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda and Walter Waddell of Atkins, Cathy Hall of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Jackie McVey of Chilhowie, and Becky Hall of Chilhowie; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Devere Harmon of Round Lake, Ill., Virginia McFarlane of Marion, Opal and Pearl Ratcliffe of Ft. Gay, W.Va., and Nancy and Bob Elliott of Marion; one sister-in-law, Carroll Gullion and husband, Marvin, of Marion; one daughter-in-law, Brenda Hall Rice and husband, Joe, of Chilhowie; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, at Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage, Dr. Jack Garland and the Rev. Gene Little officiating. Interment will follow in Wassum Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the Francis Marion V.F.W. Post 4667.
The family received friends Tuesday from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lee
Laura Mae Young Lee died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Embracing Hospice in Snellville, Ga.
She was born Oct. 10, 1940 in Ceres, but moved to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1961. She was the fourth child (daughter) of William R. Young Jr. and Ethel Harner Young of Ceres. She graduated from Rich Valley High School, class of 1957. She was the director of daycare for Kinder Care Learning Centers in Lawrenceville, Georgia, for 23 years. Kinder Care was later named Langley Academy where she was still the director.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Clements of Forest Park, Ga., and Frances Young Newberry of Bland, and one brother, Warren Young of Haymarket.
Survivors include her daughters, Tracie Lynn Lee, of Atlanta, Ga.; Kellie Lee Schnabel of Santa Ana, Calif.; a son-in-law, Timothy Morgan Schnabel, of Santa Ana, Calif.; grandchildren, Faith Alysse Schnabel and Garrett Bryson Schnabel, both of Santa Ana, Calif.; one sister, Rachel J. Young of Marion; and one brother, Graham Jack Young, of Abingdon.
A service was conducted Sunday, April 6, at 2 p.m. at Wages & Sons, Stone Mountain Chapel.
Puckett
Charles H. Puckett, 67, died Thursday, April 3, 2008, at his home.
He attended the Valley View Assembly of God.
He is preceded in death by his son, Charles David Puckett, and his parents, Dan and Louise D. Puckett; and three sisters, Shirley Puckett, Myrtle Smith, and Kathleen Harris.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Armstrong Puckett; two daughters, Tammy Frye and husband, Allen, of Saltville, Camille Moore and husband, Jeff ”Weets,” of Saltville; special nephew, Howard Wayne “Bill” Smith, of Kansas City, Mo.; three brothers, Kyle Puckett and wife, Gloria, of Pine Valley, Calif.; Danny Puckett and wife, Jackie, of Bristol, Roger Lee “Buddy” Puckett, of San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Susan Frye and husband, Wayne, of Saltville; five grandchildren, Shane, Sidney and Savannah Frye, Ryan Moore and Taylor Puckett; daughter-in-law, Devin Puckett, of Saltville; and several nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Banks officiating. Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mount Rose Cemetery.
The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home prior to the service.

Richardson
James Richardson Jr., 72, died Friday, April 4, 2008 in the Salem Veterans Administration Medical Center.
He was born in Smyth County to the late Jesse James Richardson and Lorraine Hutton Richardson.
He graduated from Marion High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from the Brunswick Corporation after 35 years of service. He was a member of Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church, the D.A.V. Chapter 39 and the American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Dennis Wayne Richardson, and his first wife, Anna Lee Richardson.
Survivors include, his wife, Pat Richardson, of Marion; one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Susie Richardson, of Salem; one stepdaughter, Lynn Robinson and fiancée, Tracy Delp, of Marion; his grandchildren, Jennifer Robinson, Nathaniel Richardson, and Aaron Richardson; one great-grandson, Alexander Robinson; one sister, Pat Bearman, of Marion; four brothers, Larry Richardson of Fincastle, Bob Richardson of Waynesboro, Allan Richardson of Sugar Grove, and Tommy Thompson of Sugar Grove; special friends, Jim Cox, Sadie and Tarz Greer; beloved pet, Babe; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was conducted at 6 p.m., Sunday, April 6, at Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with Pastor Mike Sage officiating.
The family received friends, Sunday evening from 5 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rowe
Della F. Jones Rowe, 94, widow of George Rowe, died Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Valley Health Care Center.
She was born Nov. 14, 1913, the daughter of the late William “Bill” and Lydia D. Jones, and was a native of Grayson County. She professed a hope in Christ back in the 1930s, was baptized and joined the Helton Valley Baptist Church. She moved to Richmond later and moved her membership to Richmond. She had been a faithful member of the Open Door Baptist Church for a number of years. She liked to minister to the shut-ins all around her and will be missed.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lee, Walter and Fred Jones, and four sisters, Florence Sadler, Dora Price, Minnie Oaden and Mae Hardway.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Rowe of Tampa, Fla., and Irvin Rowe of Richmond; two grandchildren, Jamie Rowe of Tampa, Fla., and Shanna Rowe Meeks of Mechanicsville; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 7, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel in Marion with the Rev. Rex Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Haw Orchard Cemetery in Grayson County.
The family received friends Monday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Seaver-Brown Chapel.

Snider
Fannie Mae Phipps Huffman Snider, 90, formerly of Marion, died on Saturday, April 5, 2008, in her residence in Royersford, Penn.
She was born on Feb. 16, 1918 in Ashe County, N.C., to the late William and Alaphair Johnson Phipps.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil Robert Huffman, and second husband, Frank Snider; three brothers, Howard, Lee and David L. Phipps; and six sisters, Mary Robbins, Lucy Hutton, Marie Huffman, Notra Phipps, Boyd Jean Hendricks and Fern Griffith.
Survivors include her daughter, Yvonne Huffman Howard, wife of Sidney Howard, of Royersford, Penn.; two grandchildren, Kim Howard and Curt Howard and his wife, Kara; four great-grandchildren, Cody, Summer, Ariel, and Travis; one brother, R.W. Phipps and his wife, Judy; one sister, Dorothy Wilson and husband, J.C.; sister-in-laws, Edith Phipps, Ruth Ann Phipps, Dorothy Cress, Pauline Snider, Ruth Musser, Margaret Hoffman and Delores Snider; one brother-in-law, William Hoffman; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 10, at Rosewood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Rural Retreat.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and the funeral will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. William Wing and Hunter March officiating.
