Boothe
James Franklin Boothe, 77, died Monday, March 31, 2008 in Abingdon.
He was born in Russell County to the late John Marshall Boothe and Sarah Belle King Boothe.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Raymond Boothe; one grandson, Kenneth Boothe Jr.; one granddaughter, Angel Bowman; and one great-grandchild, Bobby R. Bowman.
He had been employed at the Lenoir Furniture Factory Outlet in Lenoir, N.C.
Survivors include his wife, Paulette Faye Boothe; his sons, Wayne Boothe and wife, Donna, of Salem, Ronnie Boothe and wife, Mary, of Marion, Larry Boothe and wife, Debbie, of Marion, and Johnny Boothe and wife, Tammy, of Chilhowie; his daughters, Debra Bowman and husband, Bobby, of Saltville, and Darlene Bowman and husband, James, of Saltville; 20 grandchildren and 26 grandchildren; his ex-wife, Juanita Phipps, of Troutdale; special friends, Ben Phipps and Chad Teaster; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was conducted Thursday, April 3, at 2 p.m. at the Lowman Valley Church Cemetery with Pastor Steve Hutton and the Rev. Joe Powers officiating.

Brooks
Stephen Keith “Stevie” Brooks, 30, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tenn., from injuries received in a logging accident.
He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved life, his family and his friends.
Survivors include his parents, Steve and Janet Brooks of Marion; one sister, Christina Brooks and fiancé, Tim Pike, and one niece, Skylar Rhae Pike, all of Marion; his grandmothers, Beulah McPeak of Wytheville, and Addie Brooks of Marion; his fiancée, Pamela Wyatt, and her children, Shelley and Makayla, all of Chilhowie; several aunts, uncles and cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 5, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage, the Rev. Ronnie Wilson, and Michael Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow at Thomas Cemetery in Marion.
The family received friends Friday evening from 7 until 9 p.m.

Halley
Opal Josephine Halley, 83, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Francis Marion Manor.
She was born March 16, 1925 to the late Frank and Macie Grogan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ezra Lee Halley; and two daughters, Theresa Ann Halley and Carol Lea Yount.
Survivors include her children, Tony Roop of Timberlake, N.C., Mike Halley of Chilhowie, Jerrold Halley and Randy Halley, both of Glade Spring, Steve Halley of Chilhowie, and Brenda Kay Chilcote of Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at Rosewood Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating.
The family received friends Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Horne
Margaret Ellen Testerman Horne died Thursday, April 3, 2008.
She was born Feb. 3, 1919 to Charlie and Mae Testerman in Comers Rock.
She was a faithful member of Wharf Hill United Methodist Church in Sugar Grove, having been the Communion Steward for 40 years, involved with the United Methodist Women and instrumental in starting the Church thrift shop.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a sister.
Survivors include her husband, Howard, who she married June 8, 1940 in Sparta, N.C.; two daughters, Louise Brookshire and husband, Jack, of Rising Sun, Md., and Darlene Walker and husband, Jerry, of Independence; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and one very special adopted granddaughter at Grayson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
The family will receive friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at Seaver- Brown Chapel in Marion. Services will be conducted at Wharf Hill United Methodist Church in Sugar Grove on Sunday, April 6, at 3 p.m. with burial following in the Ridgelawn Cemetery. The Rev. Tom Ballard will officiate.

Keesee
Katherine Keesee, 80, of Vinton died Wednesday, April 2, 2008.
She was the daughter of the late John E. and Ada Coulthard Buchanan and was also predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Carter Keesee Sr.; three children, Betty, Bobby and Wayne Keesee; and five brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Carter Keesee Jr. and wife, Elizabeth, of Weems, Leon Raymond Keesee of Roanoke, Edward Gibson Keesee and wife, Katherine, of Botetourt County, and David A. Keesee and wife, Maria, of Vinton; three sisters, Evelyn B. Preston, Barbara R. Buchanan and Eleanor B. Foster; nine grandchildren, Kenny, Jamie, Shay, Kara, James, Debbie, Dianna, Sharon and Gretchin; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5, from the Lotz Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Rob Colwell officiating. Graveside services will follow at 4 p.m. in the Rosedale Cemetery in Saltville.
The family received friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Lotz Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel.
Price
Rylyn Skylar Price, infant son of Michelle Lang and Ray Price II, died Monday, March 31, 2008 at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tenn.
In addition to his parents, survivors include maternal grandmother, Kimberly Wyatt, of Marion; paternal grandparents, Ray and Cheryl Price, of Rural Retreat; great-grandmother, Louise Testerman, of Chilhowie; great-grandfather, Raleigh Wyatt, of Marion; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted Thursday, April 3, at 2 pm at Cleghorn Valley Baptist Church Cemetery in Chilhowie, with the Rev. Doug Rowland and the Rev. Donald Wyatt officiating.

Russell
Violet Leedy Russell, 83, died Monday, March 31, 2008 at Roanoke United Methodist Home in Roanoke.
She was a native of Marion and long-time resident of Salem. She was a pre-school teacher at Salem First United Methodist Church for many years. She attended Marion College and while in Marion worked as a secretary at Marion General Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roby and Ruby Leedy, of Marion; and one sister, Sybil Prater.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Ted Russell; daughter, Leah Russell and grandson, John Spadaro, all of Roanoke; daughter, Lisa Burns and husband, David, and grandson, Russell, all of Cary, N.C; one brother, William J. Leedy and wife, Geneva, of Marion; and several nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, April 3, at 11 a.m. in Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion, with the Rev. Roy Miller of Roanoke United Methodist Home officiating. A memorial service was conducted at Antrim Chapel at Roanoke College in Salem at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 4, with the Rev. Roy Miller presiding.

Snider
Peggy J. Snider, 70, formally of Marion, died Wednesday, March 2, 2008 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy Sue and Norman Anderson of Flatridge.
She was born April 26, 1937 in Marion.
Survivors include her two daughters and son-in-law, Peggy Sue and Norman Anderson of Flatridge and Jeanne Bowman of Marion; one son and daughter-in-law, Randy Craig and Wendy Snider, of Marion; three half-sisters, Barbara Testerman, Pasty Walters and Audrey Hearell; two half-brothers, Denny Dunford and Frank Dunford; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 5, at 2:30 p.m. in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel in Independence. Interment will follow in Pine Branch Cemetery, Mouth of Wilson with the Rev. Ralph Surber officiating.
The family received friends at the funeral home Friday night from 6 until 8 p.m.

Taylor
Arthur Sanders “Cush” Taylor, 88, of Saltville died Thursday April 3, 2008.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A. David Taylor and Sadie Sanders Taylor; three brothers, Robert, Edward and Jimmy; one sister, Novella Tickle Arthur.
A small-town southern man, he had a strong faith in the Lord and enjoyed the simple things in life, working on the Saltville Golf Course and doing small engine repair. He was loved by his family and was a proud veteran of the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was baptized at the Allison Gap First Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Jenelle Taylor; two sons, Sanders Wade Taylor and Larry Gwynn Taylor; seven grandchildren, Brad, Niles, Gwynn, Tosha, Cherish, Zack and Larry Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Brittney, Crystal, Shane, Mellisa, Lance, and Evie; two brothers, A.B. Taylor of Forest City, Penn., Charles Taylor of Ft. Worth, Texas; one sister, Virginia Snow, of Saltville; and several cousins, nieces and nephews with whom he shared a special bond.
A celebration of his life was conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, April 4, in the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Howard and the Rev. David Mumpower officiating.
Graveside services with military rites conducted by the Saltville V.F.W. Post 7328 will be held Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in the Mount Rose cemetery.
The family received friends from 6 until 8 Friday evening prior to the service.

Turnmire
John “Bud” W. Turnmire, 70, of Kingsport, Tenn., died Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport.
He was a son of the late Dewey and Ruth Turnmire. He was a native of Washington County, and had lived in Kingsport for most of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from the Eastman Chemical Company. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, Jeff Turnmire, of Kingsport; two sisters, Mae Widener and Patty Blevins, both of Meadowview; one grandson, Dillon Turnmire, of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, April 4, in the Garrett Funeral Home Chapel with Maurice Widener and Pastor Joe Hill, ministers, officiating. The committal service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus.
The family received friends from 6 until 7:45 p.m. Friday prior to the funeral service.
