TAZEWELL – Sheriff H.S. Caudill and his staff received good news last week.
The office received full accreditation from the Virginia Law Enforcement Accreditation Coalition. The office became just the 68th agency in the state of Virginia to be accredited.
Accreditation through that organization is available to sheriff’s offices, police departments and state agencies such as the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and ABC.
Caudill, Chief Deputy L.J. Howington and other members of his staff went before the board last week and received the news the department was approved. The sheriff said the board reviewed the submitted about his office and asked no questions.
The report was prepared by a committee of police chiefs and sheriffs who visited the office March 3-6 and inspected all aspects of the operation. The sheriff said the office had just a few minor deficiencies to correct following the inspection.
The accreditation is good for four years and the office will be inspected each year to make sure it is in full compliance. A formal ceremony announcing the accreditation will be held later in the year.
