It was a big season for the Holston Cavaliers.
Coach Jason Matlock said when team members handed in their equipment Monday they talked about how they still want to be playing.
The Cavs lost last Friday night to Bath County (27-20) in the beginning round of the Region C, Division 1 playoffs.
Matlock said all year the team’s goal was to make to the playoffs. They did. It was the first time in 12 years for the team and Matlock’s first time as head coach.
“I thought they played real well,” Matlock said. “It’s about who made more big plays and they made one more big play than we did. But it’s just football.”
He said during football season, when he wasn’t sleeping, coaching was a 24 hour job.
“You’re always thinking about it or putting plays together,” he said.
And he’s looking forward to next year.
Matlock said he really appreciated the support from the band, cheerleaders, student body and community. When the team’s on the field, he said, all that enthusiasm gave the players a boost.
“I’m extremely happy with the team,” he said. “And we’re just going to keep on working hard.”
