Men’s softball tourney: The Chilhowie Little League will sponsor a men’s softball tournament in Adwolfe June 29 and 30 and July 1. The entry fee is $125. For more information, call Bobby Prater at 646-5251.
Soccer camp: A Next Level Soccer Camp for those 16 and younger will be held Saturday, June 30, starting at 10 a.m., on the fi eld in front of the Smyth Career & Technology Center in Seven Mile Ford. There is no cost.
Minor League tourney: A double-elimination Minor League tournament for pitching-machine teams of 7- and 8-year-old boys will be held in Marion starting July 6. The entry fee is $125 plus one new ball per game. The entry deadline is July 3. For more information or to enter, call Junior Wolfe at 783-5394 or 276-759-5074.
New softball tourney: The first Bombs Away Classic softball tournament will be July 7 and 8 at the Adwolfe field. The entry fee is $135, and July 4 at 10 p.m. is the entry deadline. Home runs will be unlimited, and games will have a time limit of an hour and 15 minutes. Used will be .44-core softballs, and the bats not allowed are titanium ones and Miken Ultras and Ultra 2s. E&H girls’ basketball camps: The Emory & Henry College women’s basketball program will host two girls’ basketball camps in July. A camp that will be held July 9 through 11 is for girls entering the fourth through the 10th grades and focuses on offensive and defensive fundamentals. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. on July 9, and the camp ends at 8 p.m. on July 9 and 10 and at 5 p.m. on July 11. Campers may stay overnight or commute. A July 13 camp is for skilled high-school and eighth-grade players and focuses on position play, shooting and “advanced fundamentals.” Registration is at 9:30 a.m., and the camp ends at 4 p.m. Those interested are encouraged to pre-register, but spots will be available for those who register when the camps start. Saltville softball tourney: An Old Wild Bunch Reunion Softball Tournament for men’s teams will be held in Saltville July 13 through 15. For more information, call Jerry Olinger at 496-3263. Coed softball in Adwolfe: A coed softball tournament will be held in Adwolfe on Saturday and Sunday, July 14 and 15. The entry fee is $140, with teams guaranteed three games. Warrior golf tourney: Chilhowie High School will hold a four-man, captain’s choice golf tournament on Saturday, July 28, at Greenway Creek Golf Course. The cost is $50 per individual or $200 per team. Prizes will be awarded for fi rst place, second place, third place, closest to the pin and longest drive. There will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m., and lunch will be provided. Proceeds go to the Warrior football program. Swimming lessons: The Lifetime Wellness Center in Marion is offering swimming lessons in June, July and early August. Those interested should register at the front desk, and payment must be made when registering. For information, call Meg O’Donnell at 781-2747.
DAV golf tourney: The fourth annual Disabled American Veterans Chapter 39 Golf Tournament will be Saturday, Aug. 4, starting at 8 a.m., at Greenway Creek Golf Course. The rain date is Aug. 5. The cost is $180 per four-person team, and entry fees must be received by July 27. The entry fee covers 18 holes of captain’s choice golf and a cart. Prizes will be Greenway Creek merchandise ($500 worth for first place, $400 worth for second place and $200 worth for third place). There will be door prizes and closest-to-the-pin awards on Par 3s. Tourneys for those 9 and under: Southwest Virginia baseball and softball tournaments for those 9 and under are being considered for July and August. Anyone interested in the baseball tourneys should call Dave Kennedy at 276-467-1025 or Scott Chafi n at 276-762-0273. Those interested in the softball tourneys should call the second number. Bluefi eld College basketball camp: Bluefi eld College will host a boys’ basketball day camp July 9 through 13. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and campers are asked to bring lunch for a meal break at noon. The cost is $125. Running camp: A Reebok Mountain High Running Camp will be held in Mars Hill, N.C., July 9 through 14 and July 16 through 21. The camp is for middle-school and high-school cross-country runners and features trail running, Reebok shoes for participants, and a staff of elite U.S. and Kenyan runners and coaches. The limit is 150 campers per week, with registration open to teams and individuals.
