Roy Waller wins in Footbrake Eliminator at Elk Creek ….

The winner of last Friday’s (July 13) Footbrake Eliminator event at Elk Creek Dragway was Rural Retreat’s Roy Waller.
Waller’s Chevy Chevelle had a final round 6:54 ET at 99 mph. Jamie Holston, also of Rural Retreat, was the runner-up, also driving a Chevelle. His final round time was a 7:01 ET at 83 mph. David Scott was the semifinalist.
Mike Gill flew down the 1/8-mile with a 5:76 ET to win the Motorcycle Eliminator Class. Michael Waller’s motorcycle recorded a 6:27 ET at 100 mph for the runner-up spot.
Surely one of the quickest and fastest shows in the 2007 IHRA-Summit Super Series season took place at “The Creek” on July 14.
Beginning with Low ET-Top Speed of the Full-Bodied Cars and Trucks: First, David South of Butler, Tenn., in a Ford Pinto with a 4:91 ET at 128 mph; second, Steve Bralley of Rural Retreat in a 2006 Dodge Dakota pickup with a 5:071 ET at 126 mph; fourth, Tim Lawrence in a Pontiac with a 5:15 ET at 122 mph; and fifth, Russell Carter in a Camaro with a 5:330 ET at 122 mph.
The top six dragsters raced to these impressive numbers:
(1) Paul Moore of Kingsport, Tenn., with a 4:660 ET at 134 mph.
(2) Michelle Furr of Galax with a 4:885 ET at 132 mph.
(3) Clinton Snead of Bristol, Tenn., with a 4:9200 ET at 129 mph.
(4) Brandon Thompson of Mt. City, Tenn., with a 5:100 ET at 123 mph.
(5) Scott Carpenter of Yadkinville, N.C., with a 5:102 ET at 126 mph.
(6) Bill Lewis of Hillsville with a 5:120 ET at 120 mph.
Race fans arrived at “The Creek” on Saturday night to find a pit filled with over 170 race cars, 14 motorcycles and 19 junior dragsters, which was a sure sign of excitement ahead.
Tracy Kilby of Jefferson, N.C., was the winner of a special eliminator for the 5:99 and Quicker Cars. He was at the wheel of the Kilby Trucking Company-sponsored Chevy Nova that recorded a final round 5:83 ET at 109 mph.
Bill Lewis of Hillsville was the runner-up. He drove a Chevy-powered dragster that recorded a final round 5:13 ET at 121 mph. The semifinalist was Brandon Thompson in a Chevy-powered dragster.
Sondra Willard of Crockett won her first Junior Dragster event with a 10:09 ET at 59 mph. In the runner-up spot was Josh Smith of Wytheville with a final round 7:91 ET at 74 mph. The semifinalist was Julie Bean in the Direct Dodge-sponsored dragster.
Linn Joines of Sparta, N.C., drove his Chevy Camaro to the event win in Super Pro Eliminator by racing too a 5:62 ET at 112 mph. In the runner-up spot – for the second time during the evening – was Bill Lewis of Hillsville. Lewis, better known as Hollywood,” ran a final round 5:16 ET at 118 mph. The semifinalist was Ben Stiltner of Piney Flats, Tenn., in a Chevelle.
The winner of the Footbrake Eliminator Class was B.J. Bell of Speedwell. His red Mustang recorded a 7:08 ET at 888 mph. The runner-up was Jamie Holston in a Chevelle that clocked in with a 6:97 ET at 88 mph. The semifinalist was Phillip Jones in a Pontiac.
Jason Gill won the DOT Class in a Pontiac Firebird that raced to a 7:39 ET at 82 mph. Susan Harris, in a Mustang, was the runner-up. The semifinalists were Ronnie Brannock and Robbie Copenhaver.
Jerry Turner of Bluff City, Tenn., won the Motorcycle Class with a 7:15 ET at 81 mph. The runner-up was James Phibbs of Pulaski.
