A 25-year-old Sandersville, Ga., tractor-trailer driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries on Thursday morning after his rig ran off of Interstate 77 and went over a hill next to the New River bridge in Wythe County, police said.
According to the Virginia State Police, John Ledford, who was taken to the hospital, was traveling southbound when he lost control during a heavy rain, went through the guardrail and plunged down an embankment.
The trailer was loaded with vacuum cleaners, and the wreck caused a minor fuel spill.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and Ledford was charged with failure to maintain control of his vehicle, police said.
All lanes of I-77 are open.
