Mildred Lee Angles
Mildred Lee Angles, 87, of Tazewell, died July 18 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke.
Born June 21, 1921 in Tazewell County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mabel Shamblin Edwards Gillespie.
In addition to her parents, she as preceded in death by her husband, Beverly Washington Angles, Sr.; three sons, Beverly W. Angles, Jr., Jerry Angles, and David Angles; two daughters, Joan Wingo and Virginia Tipton; and two half brothers, James F. Gillespie and Daniel K. Gillespie.
Survivors: daughters, Phyllis Griffith and husband, Bobby, and Sandra Miller and husband, Donald, all of Tazewell, Dorothy Asbury of Baltimore, Md.; sons, Larry Angles, Michael Angles and wife, Kimberly, and Robert Angles and wife, Debbie, all of Tazewell; half sisters, Dora Dent, Ann Griffith, and Rose Lee Gillespie; half brother, William F. (Dick) Gillespie; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. July 22 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Kelvin Seabolt officiating.
Burial followed at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell.

George Earnest “Earnie” Barton
George Earnest “Earnie” Barton, 55, of Lebanon, died July 25 in a Lebanon hospital.
Born August 11, 1952, in Russell County, he was a son of the late George Farley and Pearl Massie Barton.
A lifelong resident of the area, he was a disabled coal miner. He attended Crabtree Chapel and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant brother, Vonel Lee Barton, and four brothers-in-law, June Crabtree, G.E. Compton, Harold Puckett and Danny Combs.
Survivors: sons, Earnest “Barton” Casey and wife, Angela, and Earnest Scott Barton, all of Virginia; grandchildren, Colton Scott Barton and Alexas Casey; step-grandson, Thomas Cooley; sisters, Alma Crabtree of Bee, Arlene Compton of Bluefield, Va., Wilma Puckett and Virgie Rasnake and husband, P.J., all of Lebanon, Louise Rasnake and husband, Cliff, of Bristol, Va., Catherine Rasnake and husband, Ira, Retha Combs, and Georgia “Jewell” Ramey, all of Abingdon; brothers, Thurman Barton and wife, Dove, of Cleveland, McKinley Barton and wife, Gertrude, of Bee, Roger Barton and wife, Kitty, of Lebanon; special friend, Glena Rittenhouse of Abingdon; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. July 29 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Bobby Turner and Rev. Roy Lee Wilson officiating.
Interment followed in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon.

Donald Luther “Red” Bowles, Jr.
Donald Luther “Red” Bowles, Jr., 39, of Tazewell, died July 25 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands following a lengthy illness.
Born Sept. 4, 1968, at Welch, W.Va., he was a son of Donald Luther Bowles, Sr. of the Mile Branch community of Iaeger, W.Va., and Eilene Keene Bowles of North Tazewell.
He was a United States Army Veteran of Operation Desert Storm, serving in the Middle East. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He was an avid hunter, WVU fan, and coached little league football for the Baptist Valley Tigers. He was employed by Del Rick as a heavy equipment operator.
Additional survivors: son, Stephen Andrew Bowles of the home; daughter, Stephanie Anne Bowles of the home; brothers, Jacob Bowles and wife, Jessica, of Bradshaw, W.Va., Allen Bowles of the Mile Branch community of Iaeger; sisters, Theresa Bowles of Hillsville, Annie Daniels of Welch, Jessica Viers and husband, John, of North Tazewell, Donella Bowles and fiancé, James Crigger, of Tazewell; nephews, Kevin Daniels, Jr., Mason Daniels, Johnny Viers, and Kevin Bowles; and nieces, Diane Daniels, Cori Daniels and Kayla Viers.
The funeral was conducted at 8 p.m. July 27 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home with the Rev. Spencer Oxford and the Rev. John Wheeler officiating.
Military graveside rites were conducted by members of the Barns-Beavers VFW Post #7136 in Tazewell.
Burial was private.

Nancy L. Thomas Boyd
Nancy L. Thomas Boyd, 79, of Drill, died July 26 at the home of her daughter, Fay Walden.
Born March 12, 1929 in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late William Richard and Mary Lou Stiltner Thomas.
She had resided in Russell County for the last 55 years. She was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Earl Boyd, two infant children, two sisters, three half-sisters, five brothers, and one half brother. 
Survivors: daughters, Ethel Fay Walden of Drill, Phyllis Boyd Dales of Vansant; son, Harmon Billy Boyd of Abingdon; brothers, Richard Thomas of Honaker, Harmon Thomas of Elkorn City, Ky., Arthur Thomas of Lebanon, Basil Thomas of Rosedale, Jerry Thomas of Vansant; sister, Birchie Boyd of Vansant; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted 1 p.m. July 28 at in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Clyde Hester officiating.
Interment followed in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon.

Charles Collison
Charles Collison, 77, of the Baptist Valley community in North Tazewell, died July 24 at his home.
Born April 15, 1931 in Deel, W.Va., he was a son of the late Charles and Goldie Dixs Callison.
He was a retired coal miner and member of the UMWA Local #6025 at Bishop.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Buddy Callison, and two sisters, Tressa Truitt and Daisy Hicks.
Survivors: wife, Lucille Hale Collison; daughters, Jackie Lambert and husband, David, of North Tazewell, Sharon Hall and husband, Darrel, of Bluefield, Va., Rene Kiser of the home; sons, David Collison and wife, Cheryl, of Savannah, Ga., Chad Collison and wife, Nicole, of Witten’s Mill; sisters, Anna Brock of Chicago, Ill., Judy Drehel of Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. 
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. July 26 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Scotty Maxfield and the Rev. Tim Samples officiating.
Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va.

James Edward Disbrow
James Edward Disbrow, 61, of Richlands, died July 26 at his home following a lengthy illness.
Born in New Jersey, he was the son of the late John and Marie Shamp Disbrow.
He had made his home in the Richlands area for the past 30 years and was the former owner and operator of C & J Electronics.
Survivors: wife, Carol Shelton Disbrow; daughters, Lisa Marie Disbrow of New Jersey, Paula Disbrow and Vickie Disbrow, both of Richlands; sons, Jimmy Disbrow, Jr. of New Jersey, Brian Disbrow of Richlands; sisters, Marge Moshkvalyzck and Agnes DeMello, both of Bayonne, N.J., Liz Holland of Mississippi; brothers, Johnny Disbrow of Staten Island, N.Y., Bobby Disbrow of New York; and two grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted July 29 at 11 a.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Tex Sawyers officiating.
Interment followed at Hankins Cemetery in Richlands.
Billie Maxwell Fisher
Billie Maxwell Fisher, 95, of Maxwell, died July 21 at Golden Age Retirement Home at Claypool Hill.
Born October 22, 1912 at Pisgah, she was a daughter of the late John Rador Maxwell and Minnie Cecil Maxwell.
She was a graduate of the State Teachers College of Fredericksburg, (now University of Mary Washington), with degrees in Physical Education and English. She attended graduate school at Columbia University, NYC. She taught at Concord College, Graham High School and Tazewell High School, from which she retired in 1978. Prior to teaching at THS, she was Post Master for the Maxwell Post office.
In her younger years, she was active in sports, including basketball, gymnastics, equestrianship and was always an avid sports fan. She was an excellent golfer, achieving a hole-in-one at the Tazewell County Country Club, and swimmer, privately teaching hundreds of children to swim at her Maxwell home. Professional memberships included the Jeffersonville Women’s Club, Delta Kappa Gamma and the American Association of University Women. Bridge was also a very important part of her life, actively playing in the Monday and the Retired Teachers’ Bridge Clubs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Davidson Fisher, (2000); two sisters, Claire Goldine Higginbotham, (2001), and Virginia Marie Smoot, (2004); and one son, John Cecil Fisher, (1992).
Survivors: sons, Claude Maxwell “Buddy” Fisher and his wife, Dana, and Richard Allen “Rick” Fisher and his wife, Meredith, and John Cecil’s wife, Emily Fisher Edmondson; grandchildren, Victor Ledford, Kelly Helton, Anne Yearians, John B. Fisher, and Max Fisher; great-grandchildren, Wesley and Jeff Ledford, Grant Helton, Clay Yearians, and John D. Fisher; and special caregivers, Elsie Matney, Edna Beavers, Ruby and John Merritt, and the staff of Golden Age Retirement Home.
It has been said “a teacher affects eternity.” Billie’s life positively impacted so many people. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

Luther Winford “L.W.” Hale
Luther Winford “L.W.” Hale, 67, of Honaker, died July 20 at his home.
Born Aug. 7, 1940 in Bartley, W.Va., he was a son of the late Carey Winford and Lula Mae Boyd Hale.
He had spent most of his life in the Honaker area and was a member of the Valley View Freewill Baptist Church. He was a disabled heavy equipment operator and enjoyed the hobby of trading guns, knives, and watches. One of his many joys in life was spending precious time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Hale; one brother, Carey Lee Hale; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, P.J. and Geneva Buckland.

Graveside services were conducted at 12 noon July 23 in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Billy Carl Honaker
Billy Carl Honaker, 69, of the Baptist Valley section of Cedar Bluff, died July 23 in a Salem, Va., Veterans Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Hartwell, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lon B. and Thelma Lockhart Honaker, both McDowell County natives.
He had made his home in the Baptist Valley area most of his life and was the co-owner of Blue Grass Machinery in North Tazewell until 2000. He was a member of the Yost Chapel Church in Baptist Valley and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a graduate of Tazewell High School Class of 1957.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant sister, Ann Nadine Honaker; one sister, Betty Slaughter; one grandson, Samuel Ein Altizer; and one granddaughter, Jessica Nicole Altizer. 
Survivors: wife, Hattie Waddell Honaker; daughters, Diane Altizer and husband, Sam, Jr., of Baptist Valley, Teresa Bracken and husband, Paul, of Parma, Ohio; sister, Brenda Poskas and husband, Leon, of Pulaski; brother, Edward Honaker and wife, Fern, of Troutville; granddaughters, Sarah Bracken and Katlyn Bracken; step granddaughter, Tiffany Bracken; and step great grandson, Angel Colon; and special caregivers, Chores & Errands Ambulance Service, Dr. In Young Park and Staff at the Richlands Dialysis Center.

Interment followed at the Bandy Family Cemetery in Baptist Valley.

Hattie Fuller Honaker
Hattie Fuller Honaker, 93, of the New Garden Road section of Honaker, died July 25 in a Lebanon hospital.
Born Dec. 7, 1914 in Honaker, she was a daughter of the late Major and Fonnie Musick Fuller.
A graduate of Honaker High School, she was a lifelong resident of Honaker, before spending the last six years as a resident at Mountain View Retirement Home in Lebanon. For many years, she was a member of the New Garden Baptist Church and her current membership was with First Baptist Church of Honaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Honaker, one daughter, Janet Lee Honaker, and three sisters, Ruth Dye, Edna Arnold and Bertha Lee Fletcher.
Survivors: daughter, Evelyn J. and Everett Honaker of Morristown, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jennifer R. Honaker of Portland, Ore., Marc A. Honaker of New York, N.Y., Kali Gruszewski of Morristown, Adara Perkins of Greeneville, Tenn.; brother, Clarence Fuller and wife, Laska, of Rosedale; and several nieces and nephews.

Pearlie Rowe Logan Mahone
Pearlie Rowe Logan Mahone, 86, of Richlands, died July 20 at the home of her son in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
She was born Sept. 2, 1921, in McDowell County, W.Va. and was the daughter of the late Harve and Betty Carter Rowe.
She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan and Tazewell County and was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. She was the last member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Bethel Logan; her second husband, Jesse W. Mahone; one son, Hassell Logan; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors: daughter, Yvonne Lawson and husband, Roy, of North Tazewell; sons, Winfred Logan and wife, Janet, of Pasadena, Texas, Eursel Logan and wife, Patricia, of Murfreesboro; step sons, Rev. David Mahone and wife, Linda, of Wardell, Donald Mahone and wife, Barbara, of Cedar Bluff, Jess Lee Mahone and wife, Debbie, of Elizabethton, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted at 1 p.m. July 24 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands with the Rev. Jim Denton and the Rev. Jimmy Cole officiating.
Interment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Glenn Arthur Manning, Jr.
Glenn Arthur Manning, Jr., 45, of Bluefield, Va., died July 26 at his home.
Born Sept. 20, 1962 in Princeton, W.Va., he was a son of the late Glenn A. Manning, Sr. and Jean Rittenhouse Manning.
He was a 1980 graduate of Princeton High School and a 1985 graduate of Concord University. He was an Eagle Scout. He was employed by the Virginia Department of Corrections, Camp #31 in Tazewell County as a Food Preparations Manager. He was a devoted father.
Survivors: wife, Melissa Manning of Milton, W.Va.; sons, Phillip Andrew Manning and Brandon Scott Manning, both of Bluefield, Va.; daughter, McKenzie Kathleen Manning of Milton; brother, Brian Kevin Manning and wife, Donna, of Fayetteville, N.C.; mother-in-law, Sarah Day of Peterstown, W.Va.; uncle, Earl Manning of Batesburg, S.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. July 30 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell.
Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, W.Va.

Pearlie Virginia Marshall
Pearlie Virginia Marshall, 74, of Middle Creek, died July 25 at her home.
Born Oct. 8, 1933 in Russell County, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Bertha Mae Hagey Gross.
She worked throughout her life as a caregiver for the elderly and as a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Luther Marshall, and five brothers, Clayton, Joe, Carl, Conley and Cecil.
Survivors: sons, Harvey Lee Marshall of Cedar Bluff, Ronnie Allen Marshall of Richlands; daughters, Carolyn Sue Marshall of Swords Creek, Pamela Annette Marshall of Middle Creek; brother, Glenn Gross of Doran; sisters, Katherine Marshall of Richlands, Beatrice Holmes of Maryland; grandchildren, Jermaine Marshall, Shawn Compton, Rodney Marshall, Joseph Marshall, Tasha Marshall, Kristy Nicoholson and Jamie Marshall; step-grandchildren, Michael Proffitt, Shawn Smith, and Hope Wilson; great grandchildren, Logan Marshall, Gabrielle Marshall, Brooke Marshall, Alexis Marshall, Kyle Nicoholson, Bailey Nicoholson, and Dallas Nicoholson; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Barbara Joan McGuire
Barbara Joan McGuire, 70, of Squire, W.Va., died July 20 at her home.
Born May 29, 1938 in Squire, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Victoria James Haywood.
She was of the Holiness faith and was a member of the Living Bread and Water Fellowship Church in Squire.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delmas McGuire, Sr.; one son, Delmas McGuire, Jr.; and five brothers, Elmer Haywood, Bob Haywood, Fred Haywood and two infant twin brothers, Ronnie and Donnie Haywood.
Survivors: Gary R. “Spud” McGuire and wife, Linda, of North Tazewell, Jeffrey McGuire and wife, Pam, of Newark, Ohio; sister, Shirley Hart of Columbus, Ohio; brother, Ernest Haywood and wife, Mildred, of Squire; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Violet Franklin, Clemie Jones, Ruth Powers, Margie Quesenberry, Jane Rose, hospice caregivers – Pat, Joan, and Cynthia.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. July 23 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with Pastors Clemie Jones and Wade Quesenberry officiating.
Burial followed at Hartwell Cemetery in Hartwell, W.Va.

Elden Todd Meadows
Elden Todd Meadows, 44, of Lebanon, died July 25 in Buchanan County, due to injuries in a coal mining accident.
Born in Richlands, he was the son of Tivis Meadows and Molly Altizer Horn Meadows of Pounding Mill.
He was raised in Buchanan County and was a graduate of the 1982 Class of Garden High School. He was a coal miner and roof bolt operator for Consol Buchanan One Mines. He was also a member of Consol’s Mine Rescue Team.
He was a loving son, husband, dad and brother. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, camping and hunting. His sons were his life and he took great joy in watching them grow into young men.  He was a quiet, honest, hard working man who took a lot of pride in his work and was a true friend to those who had the honor of calling him friend. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Alfred Nelson Horn.

Sierra Louise Meadows
Sierra Louise Meadows, 23 days old, died July 24 at the Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, Tenn., following a brief illness.
Born in Tazewell County, she was the daughter of Francis Heath and Laura Clemons Meadows of Mavisdale.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Nancy Wilson.
Additional survivors: brother, Isaac Meadows of the home; maternal grandfather, Thomas Clemons of Bluefield, W.Va.; paternal grandparents, Clay and Peggy Meadows of Mavisdale; seven aunts; and nine uncles.
The funeral was conducted July 27 at 1 p.m. at the Deliverance Tabernacle Church, Patterson, with Rev. Jerry Matney officiating.
Burial followed in the Whitt Cemetery on Drill Mountain, near Rowe.
Services were held July 25 and 26 at 7 p.m. at the church.
Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy was in charge of all arrangements.

Louis Carlton “L.C.” Munsey
Louis Carlton “L.C.” Munsey, 87, of Meadowview, formerly of Cedar Bluff, died July 22 in Abingdon.
Born in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Isaac Ketron and Elizabeth Stinson Munsey. 
He had made his home in the Russell and Tazewell county areas all of his life and was a former salesman for Paty Lumber. He sold real estate and was an entrepreneur for years.  He was a graduate of Lebanon High School Class of 1937 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1941 from Emory and Henry College. He majored in Biology and minored in Psychology. He was a U.S. Navy World War II Veteran and was of the Methodist faith. 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Berger Munsey.
Survivors: daughter, Diane Allen and husband, Jon, of Laurens, S.C.; sons, Mark Munsey and wife, Nancy, of Wytheville, Tim Munsey and wife, Diann, of Claypool Hill; brother, Bill Munsey and wife, Sue, of Abingdon; grandchildren, Catherine Munsey, Jody Munsey, Todd Munsey, Lauren Turner, and Matthew Allen; and great grandchildren, Haylee Munsey and Emma Munsey.
Memorial services were conducted July 25 at 1 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Dennis Hoffman officiating.
Inurnment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Rosa Viola Elswick McGlothlin Norman
Rosa Viola Elswick McGlothlin Norman, 88, of Vansant, died July 25 at the Tazewell Community Hospital, Tazewell, following an extended illness.
Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late M.B. and Cansas Vanover Elswick.
She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of the Fountain of Life Tabernacle. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and was a wonderful homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jefferson McGlothlin; her second husband, Homer Norman; two sisters; and five brothers.
Survivors: daughters, Shelby Jean Deel of Claypool Hill, Betty Lou Vandyke of Whitewood; sons, Kermit Lee and wife, Brenda McGlothlin, and Leonard Ray McGlothlin and fiancé, Wanda, all of Vansant; sister, Gertrude Elswick Norman of Vansant; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted July 28 at 12 noon at the Fountain of Life Tabernacle, Vansant, with Brothers: Terry Colley and Dale Dotson officiating.
Burial followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill.
Services were held at the church July 27 at 7 p.m.
Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy was in charge of all arrangements.

Virginia Grace Roark Rowe Patterson
Virginia Grace Roark Rowe Patterson, 84, of Bishop, died July 26 at her daughter’s home in Charleston, W.Va.
Born Jan. 4, 1924 at Gary, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Timothy Arthur Roark and Biner Elvira Roark.
She was a member of the Methodist church, a former librarian in Berwind, W.Va., and later found her true calling as a Head Start Teacher at Big Auger and Welch, W.Va. She also worked part time at the Post Office in Newhall, W.Va. In her spare time, she loved to paint with oils.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Kermit Rowe; her second husband, Claude Patterson; four sisters, Ruth Lewis, Mabel French, and two infant sisters; and two brothers, Albert Roark and Raymond Roark. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors: son, Lanceford Kermit Rowe and wife, Roberta, of Ocala, Fla.; daughter, Nikki Lynn Chugha and husband, Rajendra, of Silver Spring, Md.; grandchildren, Lance Kiefer Rowe of Ocala, Prem Raman Chugha of Charlotte, N.C.; and great grandchildren, Sophia Elizabeth Chugha and Gabrielle Grace Chugha.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. July 30 at Alexander United Methodist Church at Bishop with the Rev. Max Linkous and the Rev. Kenny Fields officiating.
Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va.

Hilda Jane Bowman Rose
Hilda Jane Bowman Rose, 70, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Tazewell, died peacefully at Carolinas Medical Center, in Charlotte, July 24 surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born March 27, 1938, in Newhall, W.Va., to the late Garland Wade and Maudie Agnes Bowman.
She had recently fought a very courageous battle with cancer and was on her way to recovery until she suffered a stroke July 21. She attended both Big Creek High School in War, W.Va., and Tazewell High School in Tazewell. After retiring from Howard Johnson’s after 23 years, she was employed with Spivey Enterprises for 15 years and worked up until the time she was diagnosed with cancer. One of her greatest pleasures was the time she could spend tending to her flowers and working in her yard. She also loved to read and spend time with her family, grandchildren and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Basil Webster Rose; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Collins, and one brother, Ronnie Carroll Bowman.
Survivors: children, Tammy McCloud and Gregory Rose of the home, Malina Barbee of Locust, N.C., Bobby Rose and wife, Reda, of Bluefield, Va.; step-children, Sue Rosen and Michael Rose; lifelong friend, Barbara McGuire; sisters, Mildred Haywood and husband, Ernest, of Squire, W.Va., Lorraine Tucker of Charlotte, Louise Wykes and husband, Bill, of Virginia Beach, Patricia Brown and husband, Norman, of Chesapeake, Shirley Query of Mt. Holly, N.C.; brothers, Douglas Bowman and wife, Gloria, of North Tazewell, Larry Bowman and wife, Margaret, of Squire, W.Va.; a very special niece, Krista Stegall and husband, Jim; 12 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild that were her pride and joy. We rejoice that you are in a better place and not suffering anymore, our hearts will forever long to see you again.  You will be truly missed by anyone who knew you.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. July 28 at Peery and St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. John Murray officiating.
Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens at Bluefield, Va.

Rees Bowen Royall
Rees Bowen Royall, 93, of Tazewell, died July 21 at his home.
Born Sept. 19, 1914, in Tazewell, he was a son of the late Senator J. Powell Royall, Sr. and Jennie Bowen Royall.
He attended the College of William & Mary and Bowling Green University. He was a lifetime member of Main Street United Methodist Church and a member of the Tazewell Rotary Club. He was a member of the Tazewell Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M., member of the Commandry, Kazim Temple, Roanoke, and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a retired insurance agent, real estate broker and appraiser, along with coal interest including Bull Creek Coal and Clinical Coal. He originated a slogan for the Tazewell Chamber of Commerce “Tazewell Coal and Cattle Capital of the Commonwealth”.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel Litz Royall; an infant son, Rees Royall; four sisters, Chris Elmore, Rachel Royall, Jane Phlegar, and Ellen Story; and three brothers, Powell Royall, Jr., Archer Royall, and Sam Royall.
Survivors: wife, Doris L. Royall and her son Douglas and wife, Linda, grandson, Robert Scott Hutchinson all of Tazewell; daughter, Jeanne Bowen Hillman and husband, Alan, of Vero Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Kelly Bowen Musleh and husband, Victor, of Ocala, Fla., David Christian Harkness and wife, Amber, of Alabaster, Ala., Stephen Litz Harkness of Vero Beach; great grandchildren, Trey and Bowen Musleh, Andrew and Tate Harkness; and brother, Edwin G. Royall and wife, Martha, of Bluefield, W.Va.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. July 25 at Main St. United Methodist Church in Tazewell with the Rev. Dr. Thomas A. Conley officiating.
Burial with Masonic graveside rites followed at the Jeffersonville Cemetery in Tazewell.

Kathy S. Thompson
Kathy S. Thompson, 49, of Tazewell, died July 26 in Tazewell, following a brief illness.
Born in Tazewell, she was the daughter of Betty Helmandollar Sargent of Tazewell and the late Jack Sargent.
She was a Tazewell High School Class of 1977 graduate and had worked in Environmental Services at Tazewell Community Hospital for the past seven years. She was a lifelong resident of the area and had attended Tazewell Christian Church. She was also a member of the Ladies of the Moose. She was a great deer camp cook and would often spot more deer from the campsite than the hunters in the woods. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Additional survivors: husband, Terry W. Thompson; sons, Jeffery Thompson and wife, Beth, of North Tazewell, T.J. Thompson of Christiansburg; brothers, Mike Sargent and Tim Sargent and wife, Joan, all of Tazewell; and granddaughter, Autumn Rose Thompson.
The funeral was conducted at 1 p.m. July 29 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell with the Rev. Kenny Gillespie officiating.
Interment followed in Grandview Memory Gardens at Bluefield, Va.

Annette Alley Whitt
Annette Alley Whitt, 66, of Raven, died July 22 following a lengthy illness.
Born Aug. 15, 1941 in Richlands, she was the daughter of Sadie Asbury Alley of Tazewell and the late Harry Midford Alley.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.
Additional survivors: husband, Perry Henry Whitt; daughter, Anita Smith and husband, Wendell, of Belfast; sons, Barry W. Mabe and wife, Kerri L., of Doran, Randy L. Mabe and wife, Regina, of Clintwood; sisters, Carol Whitt and husband, Claude, of Baptist Valley; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. July 24 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands with Brother Luther Bowman officiating.
Interment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Jeremiah Randall (Big Bubby) Williams
Jeremiah Randall (Big Bubby) Williams, 34 months of age, infant son of Terry Randall (Nanny Goat) and Christine (Penny) Charles Williams, of Big Rock, died July 22 in Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, Tenn., following a brief illness.
He was born in Richlands and was a member of Buchanan First Assembly of God.
Additional survivors:  brothers, twin brother, Jacob Michael Williams and Jesse Preston Charles, both of Big Rock; sisters, Sherrah Elaine Williams of Breaks, Kathryn Deel and Katlyn Brooke Williams, both of Lebanon; maternal grandparents, Warren G. and Ester Mae Lester Charles of Big Rock; paternal grandmother, Patty Ann Howell of Pikeville, Ky.; paternal grandfather, Dennis Ray Williams of Lick Creek, Ky.; paternal step grandfather, Edward Howell of Pikeville; great paternal grandmother, Stella Williams of Belcher, Ky.; five uncles; and one special aunt, Sandra K. Mitchell
The funeral was conducted July 26 at 1 p.m. at the Buchanan First Assembly of God, Big Rock, with Ministers: Tony Lowe, Steve May and Raymond Lester officiating.
Burial followed in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock.
Services were held July 24 and 25 at 7 p.m. at the church.
