Timothy Dwayne Bowman
Timothy Dwayne Bowman, 42, of the Convict Hollow section of Grundy died June 26 at the Buchanan General Hospital.
Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of Herman K and Maudene Williamson Bowman, Grundy. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was of the Protestant Faith. Mr. Bowman was a Graduate of Grundy Senior High School Class of 1983 and a former employee of United Coal Company.
He was preceded in death by companion: Beverly Brown, paternal grandparents Glenn and Ressie Bowman and maternal grandparents: Kenny and Emily McCoy.
Survivors: brothers, Kennith James and wife Donna Bowman of Grundy, Gregory and wife Crystal Bowman of Oakwood; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted June 30 at 1 p.m. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Ronnie Sliger, Josh Bowman, Eddie Wilson and Bobby Ratliff officiating.
Burial followed in Mudlick Cemetery on Convict Hollow Road, Maxie.

Beverly Ann Brown
Beverly Ann Brown, 37, of Raven, died June 26 in Grundy.
She was the daughter of Nola Fern Sharp Arnold Gross of Swords Creek and the late William Ray Arnold.
She was a graduate of Honaker High School Class of 1983 and a former seamstress for Jacqueline Manufacturing in Richlands. She had lived in the Raven/Swords Creek most of her life. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary #9640 and was of the Holiness faith. 
Additional survivors: husband, Scottie Wayne Brown; daughter, Nicole L. Brown of Swords Creek; son, Cody Wayne Brown of Swords Creek; sisters, Barbara Jean Johnson and husband, Eugene, of Whitmire, S.C., Shirley L. Arnold of Bluefield, W.Va.; brothers, Gary Wayne Gross and wife, LouAnn, of Newberry, S.C., Andy Gross, III and wife, Susan, of Barboursville, Jerry Wayne Gross of Leesville, S.C., William Emory Arnold and wife, Rena, of Whitmire, S.C.; special friend and aunt, Gladys White; special friend, Paul Christian; five nieces; and 12 nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. June 30 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands with the Rev. Dennis White officiating.
Interment followed in Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands.

Elden “Slick” Edward Cook
Elden “Slick” Edward Cook, 75, of Rowe, died June 23 in a Tazewell hospital.
Born April 11, 1933 in Russell County, he was a son of the late Walter and Monnie Hess Cook.
He had spent most of his life in the area and was a member of Rowe Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a disabled truck driver, having been employed by C.A. Whited Trucking.
In addition to his parents, he was a preceded in death by his wife, Lois Cook; three sisters, Virginia Johnson, Edith Mabe, and Barbara Ann Cook; and four brothers, Allen Stevens, Gaines Stevens, Ballard Cook and Roger Cook.
Survivors: daughters, Brenda Pauley and husband, Gary, and Rebecca Lester and husband, Jerry, all of Honaker; step-daughters, Brenda Davis and husband, Hurley, of Raven, Bonnie Davis and husband, James, of Honaker; step-son, Rondal Street and wife, Loretta, of Rowe; grandchildren, Donovan Meadows and Vanessya Herbert and husband, Daniel; great-grandchildren, Dalton Meadows and Jay Harrison; step-grandchildren, Jeremy Davis and wife, Janice, Reese Davis and wife, Chasity, Brandi Offield and husband, Travis, and Chasity Street; step-great-grandchild, Blake Davis; sisters, Ruth Smith of Richlands, Wanda Mitchell and husband, Don, of Lebanon; brothers, J.C. Cook and wife, Barbara, and Donald Lee Cook and wife, Mildred, all of Abingdon, Douglas Cook and wife, Carol, of Rowe; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. June 26 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Ancil Childress officiating.
Interment followed in Baldwin Cemetery at Drill.

Ora Osborne Smith Foran
Ora Osborne Smith Foran, 94, of Cedar Bluff, died June 27 at her home following a brief illness.
She was born in Tazewell County, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Washington and Bessie Osborne. She was a lifelong resident of the area. She had attended Baptist Valley Assembly of God Church. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Ira Smith; her second husband, Dewey Foran; children, Grady (Buddy) Smith, Gaynelle Smith Horton Lawson, and Carson Lee Smith; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors: sister, Ollie War of Baltimore, Md.; grandchildren, Joan Taylor of Burlington, North Carolina, John Horton of Cedar Bluff, Linda Elder of Belfast, Rhonda Lawson of Bandy, Grady (Petey) Smith, Jr. of Lebanon; 12 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m. June 30 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands with the Rev. Mark Hinson officiating.
Interment followed at the Osborne Family Cemetery, located on Osborne Mountain.

James F. Lockhart
James F. Lockhart, 100, of Shady Springs, W.Va., died June 27 in a Daniels, W.Va. nursing facility.
Born Sept. 26, 1907 in Russell County, he was a son of the late Walter and Ada Johnson Lockhart.
He was formerly employed as a coal miner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, America Duty Lockhart, three brothers, Beecher Lockhart, Burchard Lockhart, and Ernest Lockhart; and three sisters, Madeline Mills, Pansy Wampler and Myrtle Combs.
Survivors: daughters, Kitty Saddler and husband, Pat, of Daniels, Patricia McMahan and husband, Leroy, of Knoxville, Tenn.; a special friend of 60 years, Pauline Blackburn of Beckley, W.Va.; sister, Ella Duty of Richmond; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted at 3 p.m. June 28 at the Lockhart Family Cemetery in Finney.
Interment followed.
Honaker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Earnest Nuckles
Earnest Nuckles, 71, of the Big A Mountain section of Honaker, died June 25 in a Richlands hospital.
Born Sept. 29, 1936 in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Dewey and Oma Tiller Nuckles.
He had spent most of his life in the Buchanan and Russell County areas and was a member of Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and trustee for 30 years. He was a disabled carpenter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Eva Jean Sprouse.
Survivors: wife of 43 years, Lois Ellen Smith Nuckles; son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Jennifer Nuckles of Honaker; grandchildren, Brandon Nuckles and Lexi Nuckles, both of Honaker; sisters, Ivanell Tiller of Honaker, Sandy Wilson and husband, Rob, of Council; brothers, Harley Nuckles of Council, Ervin Nuckles and wife, Wilma, of Lebanon, J.D. Nuckles and wife, Loretta, of Sugar Grove; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. June 28 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Giles Wilson and Rev. Ellis Nuckles officiating.
Interment followed in the Nuckles Cemetery on Fletcher’s Ridge.

Marjorie J. Sparks
Marjorie J. Sparks, 64, of North Tazewell, died June 25 at Tazewell Community Hospital.
Born Nov. 10, 1943 at Canaseraga, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Lula Jackson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, William Jackson, Jr.; one sister, Frances Pire; and two brothers, Charles and Norman Jackson.
Survivors: husband of 44 years, William Sparks; daughters, Cheryl Corbin and husband, Alfred, of Gratton, Christine Sparks of Warriormine, W.Va.; and brothers, Gene Jackson and wife, Nancy, of Dansville, N.Y., and David Jackson and wife, Carrie, of Mt. Morris, N.Y.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. June 28 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Wilmer Muncy officiating.
Burial followed at the Barton Cemetery in Hartwell, W.Va.

Pearl Marie Turley
For I am already being poured like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Pearl Marie Turley, 60, of the Thompson Valley community of Tazewell, departed this life on earth to walk with the angels up in heaven June 23 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born Jan. 6, 1948 in Thompson Valley, she was a daughter of the late Dave Peirce Asbury and Myrtle Jones Asbury.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one niece, Pamela Kay Asbury.
Survivors: daughter, Donna Wimmer, and husband, Doug; brother, David Asbury and wife, Connie, of Bastian; sisters, Nancy Asbury of the home who cared for Pearl, Barbara Vanhoozer and husband, Jim, of Tazewell; grandson, Mason Wimmer who was the light of her life; step granddaughters, Kristi and Paige Wimmer; nephews, Scot Vanhoozer, Tony Vanhoozer, and Jeff Asbury, all of Tazewell. She was special ‘Momaw Pearl’ to Lacy, Alyssa, Jamie, Alex, Pierce, and Derek Vanhoozer; special friend, Patsy Baldwin; and caregivers, Preferred Hospice.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. June 26 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Jim Denton officiating.
Burial followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Thompson Valley.

Virgie Mary VanDyke
Virgie Mary VanDyke, 87, of Abingdon, died June 26 at her home.
She was the daughter of the late George Floyd and Alta Mae Coleman Meadows.
She had been a resident of Abingdon for the past 31 years moving there from the Tazewell, Richlands area.
She was a member of the House of Prayer in Limestone, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harlen VanDyke, William Caudle McCoy and Nathan Sanson; one son, Earl; one sister; and six brothers.
Survivors: sons, Sunney McCoy and wife, Sue, of Abingdon, Perry McCoy and wife, Sue, and Hayes Sanson and wife, Wilma, all of Walhalla, S.C., Oakley McCoy and wife, Betty, of Limestone; daughters, Clara Cordle and husband, Bobby, of Lockport, N.Y., Evelyn Collier, of Johnson City, Tenn.; sister, Nellie Presley, of Michigan; three step-children; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.
The funeral was conducted June 28 at 1 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Service, Main Street Chapel, Abingdon, with Rev. Oakley McCoy and Rev. Sonny Thomas officiating.
Interment followed in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

Mack M. Wright
Mack M. Wright, 78, of North Tazewell, died June 22 at his home.
Born May 12, 1930 at Mudfork, he was a son of the late John Wesley Wright and Mamie Casey Wright.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Malie Johnson Wright; second wife, Blanche Lawson Wright; two sons, Charles R. Wright and George Wright; one daughter, Patricia Wright; one nephew, Curtis Woodrow Conley.
Survivors: his longtime companion, Maxine Pruett; daughter, Violet Robinson and husband, Randy Boardwine, of Tazewell; sons, Mack M. Wright, Jr., Lonnie W. Wright, and Jeffrey A. Wright, all of Erie, Pa., Roy L. Wright of Tazewell; step children, Woodrow J. Pruett of Kentucky, Steven W. Pruett of North Tazewell, Raymond Reynolds of Cambridge Springs, Pa., Robert Reynolds of Oil City, Pa., Clarence Reynolds of Girard, Pa., Barbara Mitchell, Sidney A. Lewis and Brenda Altizer, all of North Tazewell, Anita Keerekes of Berwind, W.Va., Alice J. Osborne of North Carolina, Doris F. Bradley and Karen Y. Altizer, both of Christiansburg, Roberta Goodwill of Wesleyville, Pa.; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. June 26 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Kathleen Stanley officiating.
Burial followed at Brown’s Chapel Cemetery in the Mudfork community of Tazewell County.
