Gerald “Tommy” Ball
Gerald “Tommy” Ball, 65, of Raven, went to be with the Lord Sept. 20, following a brief illness.
Born April 30, 1942 in Richlands, he was the son of the late Lawrence E. and Ethel M. Cordill Ball.
He was a special person to all his family and friends. He attended Road Ridge Assembly of God Church and the Chapel of Love Church. 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gene Ball.
Survivors: brother, Bobby D. Ball and wife, Nell, of Raven; and several nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Sept. 22 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff with Rev. Jerry Welch and Rev. Roger Lester officiating.
Burial followed in the Ball Cemetery at Road Ridge.

Lilly Hannah Boyd
Lilly Hannah Boyd, 84, of Ikes Fork, WV, died Sept. 19 at McDowell County Continuous Care, where she was a resident for several years.
Born April 18, 1923 in Iaeger, WV, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Sarah Riffe Walker.
She had formerly been employed as a salesperson and then later in management for Ammar Bork Stove in Williamson, WV. She was a member of the Hale Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Boyd; one son, Dallas Christian; one grandson, Dallas Christian, Jr.; and one sister, Edith Viars.
Survivors: granddaughter, Alesia Young of Fishers, IN; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Corda Roberts of Ikes Fork, Mazie Wise of Orlando, FL, Blanche Ingle of Asheville, NC, Frances Seiple of Abingdon; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Sept. 22 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Elder Jimmy Moore and Chad Crawford officiating.
Interment followed in Russell Memorial Cemetery at Lebanon.

Nannie Clara Brown
Nannie Clara Brown, 77, of Steelsburg, died Sept. 21 at her home following a brief illness.
Born at Russell County, she was the daughter of the late Reese and Rachel Patrick Ball.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Bert E. Brown; one son, Bert J. Brown; three brothers, Burley Ball, Junior Ball and Jessee Ball; and one grandson, Joseph Allen Addison. 
Survivors: daughters, Shirley Addison and husband, Jerry, and Linda Stump, all of Steelsburg; brothers, Jack Ball and wife, Hazel, and Billy Ball, all of Richlands, Ray Ball and wife, Violia, of Swords Creek; sisters, Bessie Monk of Richlands, Jean Hess and husband, Luther, of Lowesville, NC; daughter-in-law, Sharon (Sug) Brown of Charleston, WV; grandchildren, Scott A. Stump, Rhonda D. Griffith and Jerri Kaye Mabe; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Stafford Compton officiating.
Burial followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery at Claypool Hill.

Joseph Burge
Joseph Burge, 87, of Richlands, died at his home surrounded by his loving family, Sept. 23 following a lengthy illness.
Born in Kentucky, he was the son of the late Johnie and Katie Hunter Burge.
He had served his country during World War II, and after his discharge he became a buyer manager for a large corporate grocery store for many years. Later on in life, he became a farmer and enjoyed working the land and tending his livestock. He was a member of the New Hope Assembly of God church at Claypool Hill and was the last surviving member of his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Michael Burge, who was killed during World War II, and his aunt, Minnie Greene, who raised him since he was four years old, after his mother died.
Survivors: loving wife, Edith Burge, and many friends and loved ones.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sept. 26 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands with the Rev. Claudie Throgmartin and Rev. Charles Casey officiating.
Entombment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill.
Military graveside services will be performed by the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640.

Donald “Don” Corns
Donald Elden “Don” Corns, 74, of Johnsville, OH, died Sept. 23 in Morrow County Hospital, Mount Gilead, OH, following a short illness.
He was born May 16, 1933 in Russell County to George and Edna (Keen) Corns, and had lived in Ohio since 1946.
He had worked in the custodial department for Ontario (Ohio) Schools for 18 years, prior to his retirement in 1995.
He was a member of North Woodbury Freewill Baptist Church, and served the church as deacon. A people person in his own quiet way, he will be remembered for the great care he held in his heart for his immediate family, extended family, church family, and large circle of friends.
He sure enjoyed his fishing and hunting trips. He seldom missed watching the Cleveland Indians and kept busy at home building picture frames.
He leaves a legacy of undying love and commitment to his family, his wife, children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Judith Corns and Ivan Corns, and one sister, Geneva Corns.
Survivors: Helen M. (Carte) Corns, whom he married Oct. 14, 1959; daughter, Karen Corns of Johnsville; son and a daughter-in-law, Darrell and Lisa Corns of Johnsville, Randall Corns and his companion, Rose Tresh, and her daughters, Jenny Tresh and Cassie Tresh, all of Johnsville, son, Mark Corns of Johnsville; grandchildren Jennifer Corns, Jessica Corns, Julia Corns and Joshua Corns; great grandson, Mikele Corns; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Marlene Corns and Russell and Doris Corns, all of Mansfield, OH; numerous nieces and nephews; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral will be held Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. in North Woodbury Freewill Baptist Church, 6186 State Route 314, North Woodbury, OH. Pastors Jimmy Thompson and Craig Stone will officiate. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.

Gregory Nelson Dye
Gregory Nelson Dye, 28, of Swords Creek, died Sept. 21 in University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Born April 11, 1979 in Richlands, he was a son of Gary Dye of Swords Creek and Goldie Jean Brown of Swords Creek.
A lifelong resident of the area, he was a 1998 graduate of Honaker High School.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Sylvia Jean Blankenship, and his paternal grandmother, Nora Mae Dye.
In addition to his father and mother, survivors include: his step-father, Mark A. Brown of Swords Creek; paternal grandfather, Worley Dye of Swords Creek; step-grandparents, Brady Blankenship of Drill, Robert and Peggy Price of Bristol, TN; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Sept. 24 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Jeff Ball and Rev. Tommy Dye officiating.
Interment followed in the Dye Cemetery at Swords Creek.

Theodore Eugene (Ted) Falke
Theodore Eugene (Ted) Falke, 70, of Richlands, died Sept. 20 at his home surrounded by his loving family following a lengthy illness.
Born in War, WV, he was the son of the late Walter and Dora K. Smith Falke.
He was a graduate of Iaeger High School, Class of 1956. He was a Contractor and home builder for many years. He had lived in the Richlands area for the last 25 years, and was of the Pentecostal Faith. 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Velma Louise Falke, and one brother, Joseph Falke.
Survivors: daughters, Sharron Parkhurst and husband, Jack, of Richlands, Katherine Rossignol of Phoenix, AZ; sisters, Nancy Wimmer of Bradshaw, WV, Mildred Cooper of Capon Bridge, WV; brother, Rev. Robert Falke of Ashtabula, OH; and grandchildren, Cynthia Sanders, Katie Meiers, Tyra Rossignol and Kristi Rossignol.
The funeral was conducted at 1 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands with the Rev. Danny Houchins officiating.
Interment followed at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill.

Mary E. (Crabtree) Green
Mary E. (Crabtree) Green, 66, died Aug. 26 in Orlando, FL.
She was born in Pageton, WV and was formerly of Tazewell. She was the daughter of the late Arch and Lorraine Kirk Crabtree.
She graduated from Tazewell High School in 1958 and came to Brevard County in 2004 from Dale City. She worked for Business Services.
Survivors: husband, Curtis Green; children, Sherri (Jim) Goldsmith of Camden, DE, Trina (Bob) Gilbert of Fredericksburg, Z. Dawn Davis (Tom Reynolds) of Warrenton, Carla (Ed) Kieckhefer of Centreville; grandchildren, Nicholas and Danielle Gilbert, Thomas Reynolds, Elizabeth and Frederick Kieckhefer, Kristina and Amanda Niblett; father and mother-in-law, Oscar and Sylvia Reams; sisters, Carol (Shelton) Wyatt and Kay Conley, both of Port Deposit, MD, Doris Crabtree of New Castle, DE; and sisters-in-law, Gail (Dave) Peterson of Anchorage, AK, Joyce Pruitt of Front Royal, Margaret (Ernie) Burdette of White Sulfur, WV, and Connie Shew of Titusville, FL.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Ridgedale Methodist Church.
Burial was in the Ridgedale Cemetery.
The family received friends from 12 until 2 p.m. Aug. 31 at the church prior to services.

George “Bill”
Miller Hagy
George “Bill” Miller Hagy, 76, of Richlands, died Sept. 20 in a Richlands hospital.
Born March 6, 1931 in Smyth County, he was the son of the late George Miller and Amanda Fowler Hagy.
He was retired from Pounding Mill Quarry and was of the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Joe, Charlie, William and James Hagy; and one sister, Rosie Hagy Price.   
Survivors: wife, Wanda Hagy; step daughter, Mona Cordle and husband, Buford, of Tazewell; step son, Albert Lee Dowdy of the home; sister, Minnie B. Lester of Baptist Valley; grandchildren, Jasmine Justice, Brianna Justice, Austin Justice and Gracien Cordle; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff with Rev. Roger Lester and Rev. Luther Bowman officiating.
Burial followed in the Cove Cemetery in Tazewell County.

Glen Alan Harris
Glen Alan Harris, 44, of the Big A Mountain section of Honaker, died Sept. 18 in a Lebanon hospital.
Born Dec. 26, 1962 in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Herbert and Eula Street Harris.
He was a lifelong resident of the area.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Harris.
Survivors: daughter, Latasha Harris; sisters, Judy Maynard and husband, Chester, of Crumb, WV, Sandy Tuggle of Lebanon; brothers, Richard Harris and wife, Kathy, Jack Harris and wife, Delphia, and James Harris, all of Honaker, David Harris of Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Sept. 22 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Darrell Ray officiating.
Interment followed in the Frank Smith Cemetery on Big A Mountain.

David Daniel Helton
David Daniel Helton, 76, of the Drill section of Honaker, died Sept. 19 in a Lebanon hospital.
Born Nov. 19, 1930 in Russell County, he was a son of the late William Helton and Ella Hess Helton.
He had spent most of his life in the area and was a disabled coal miner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Bertha Coleman and Leona Dye, and four brothers, Harmon Helton, Walter Helton, Paul Helton, and Lyoda Helton.
Survivors: wife of 54 years, Rachel Helton; daughter, Linda Kay Musick and husband, George, of Drill; grandsons, Marvin Daniel Musick of Honaker, Chester Ray Musick and wife, Candice, of the Gravel Lick section of Castlewood; brother, Ed Helton of Raven; sister, Gladys Hopkins of Kingsport, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Sept. 21 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Ralph Dye, Bro. Randy Taylor and Bro. Jerry Edwards officiating.
Interment followed in the Helton Cemetery on Stinson Ridge.

Gladys Nuckles Hess
Gladys Nuckles Hess, 89, of Venia, went to be with the Lord Sept. 18 in an Abingdon hospital.
Born July 5, 1918 in Venia, she was a daughter of the late G.W. “Doc” and Cora McFadden Nuckles.
A lifelong resident of the Venia area, she was a charter member of the Venia Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. She worked at Council Elementary School as a cook for 21 years before retiring in 1994. She was a devoted wife, mother, and Christian. She was well known as “Ma” to everyone. She touched many lives through the years and will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Howard H. Hess; one son, Hassell Hess; two granddaughters, Michelle Maggard and Patricia “Pat” Stilwell; one son-in-law, Garland Austin; five brothers, Marshall, Dewey, Howard, Marvin, and Edward Nuckles; and three sisters, Ocie Nuckles, Vernie Nuckles and Ruby Johnson.
Survivors: daughters, Draper Austin of Venia, Beulah Breeding and husband, Herman, of Lebanon, Wilma Sue Severt and husband, Tom, of Glendale Springs, NC; sons, Clinton Hess and wife, Francis, and Sam Hess and wife, Sandra, all of Rosedale; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Fannie Fletcher, Ada Farmer, Juanita Farmer, Edna Childress and Marie Nuckles, all of Rowe, Alice Farmer of Honaker; brothers, Arthur Nuckles of Davenport, Rev. Ellis Nuckles of Lebanon; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Interment followed in the Austin Cemetery at Venia.

William “Bill” Luther Hoops, Jr.
William “Bill” Luther Hoops, Jr., 82, of Tazewell, died Sept. 18 at Tazewell Community Hospital.
Born Nov. 28, 1924 in Tazewell County, he was a son of the late William L. Hoops, Sr. and Nannie Lee Whitt Hoops.
He was a retired employee of Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nannie Mae Green Hoops; second wife, Mary Sawyers Hoops; and two sisters, Dorothy Nelson and Thelma Riley.
Survivors: sister, Juanita Beavers of North Tazewell; special brother-in-law, Alton Nelson of Rocky Gap; nieces, special niece, Mary Baker, along with Lori Hurley and husband, Dwight, Jeanie Rodriguez and husband, Mike, Betsy Estrada and husband, Carlos; nephews, Danny Beavers and wife, Barbara, Billy Beavers and wife, Brenda, Stevie Beavers and wife, Teresa, and Garnett Riley; and several great nieces and nephews.

Virgil Kennedy
Virgil Kennedy, 68, of Avondale, WV, died Sept. 18 at his home.
Born Oct. 12, 1938 at McDowell County, WV, he was the son of Dave Kennedy of Bartley, WV and the late Mary Pruitt Kennedy. He was a retired truck driver.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Kennedy, and one sister, Alice Blakley.
Additional survivors: wife, Joan Kennedy; son, Billy Kennedy and wife, Holly, of Jolo, WV; grandson, Zachery Paul Kennedy of Jolo; granddaughter, Megan Dawn Reynolds of Iaegar, WV; and sisters, Helen Cole of Jewell Ridge, Daisy Kennedy of Jolo, Lurene Mullins of Shipshawna, IN, Barbara Lopez of Goshen, IN, and Lucy Hatfield of Obichobi, FL.
The funeral was conducted Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. at the Mile Branch Community Church, Avondale, WV, with Revs. William Daugherty, Danny Hess and Elmer Rose officiating.
Burial followed in the Justus Cemetery in Hurley.
A service was held at the church Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.

Edna Mae Kitts
Edna Mae Kitts, 71, of Denver, NC, formerly of Bluefield, VA, died of complications from Alzheimer’s disease Sept. 23 at the Wexford House in Denver.
Born Jan. 16, 1936 in Bluefield, VA, she was the daughter of the late William and Alice Grubb.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Joe C. Kitts, and one brother, Rufus Grubb.
Survivors: son, Danny Joe Kitts and wife, Sherry, of Denver, NC; daughter, Deborah Sue Cregger and special friend, Raymond Salyers, of Raven; sister, Margaret Hopkins and husband, Robert, of Denver, NC; brother, Roy Grubb and wife, Mamie, of Charlotte, NC; grandsons, Daniel Kitts of Denver, NC, Travis Cregger of Bluefield, VA; granddaughter, Kaylyn Kitts of Denver, NC; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friend, Paul Cregger, of Bluefield, VA.
The funeral will be conducted Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Tazewell with Rev. Kenneth Gillespie officiating.
Interment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, VA.
The family will receive friends three hours prior to the time of service on Sept. 26.

Dorothy M. Newberry
Dorothy Madeline Newberry, 79, went to be with the Lord Sept. 23 at a local Richlands hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Tazewell County, she was the daughter of the late Arch and Virgie Davis Ball.
She worked in the dietary department at Mattie Williams Hospital, was of the holiness faith and attended the Premiere Full Gospel Church. She was a life long resident of the Richlands area.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Grat Arnold Newberry, two sons, William and John Newberry, and seven brothers and sisters.
Survivors: daughters, Betty Hill and husband, Billy, of Fincastle, Patricia Miller of Swords Creek; sisters, Betty Shelton of Doran, Pansy Baldwin of Cedar Bluff, Louise Stilwell and Bertie Dye, both of Oceola, OH; brothers, Carl Ball and Bob Ball, both of Raven, Jack Ball and Otis Ball, both of Michigan; special niece, Patsy Elkins of Pounding Mill; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
The funeral was conducted, at 1 p.m. Sept. 25 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands with the Rev. Dennis White and Shane Breeding officiating.
Interment followed at the Newberry Family Cemetery on Horton Ridge, near Raven.

Charlene Ellen Penley
Charlene Ellen Penley, 65, of Richlands, died Sept. 23 at her home following a brief illness.
Born in Russell County, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Maude Osborne Compton. 
She had made her home in the Richlands area all of her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Meade; and one brother, Ted Compton. 
Survivors: daughters, Sandy Piper, Tammy Penley and Rita Penley, all of Ohio; son, Mark Penley of Ohio; sisters, Ruth Ferrell of Cedar Bluff, Brenda Compton and Carolyn Childress and husband, Jack, all of Richlands; brother, Jim Compton and wife, Velda, of Swords Creek; and several grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted Sept. 26 at 11 a.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. David Osborne officiating.
Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Mrs. Billie Emmett
Pruett Porterfield
Mrs. Billie Emmett Pruett Porterfield, 81, of Tallahassee, FL, formerly of Tazewell, died Sept. 19 at Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee.
Born July 17, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Earl G. Pruett and Minnie Reeves Pruett.
She was born at the family home in Shawvers Mill and also was married there Dec. 21, 1952. She was a member of the Palm Springs Presbyterian Church in Hialeah, FL.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Pryor and Peggy Lawson.
Survivors: husband of 54 years, Harold P. Porterfield; son, Gene Porterfield and wife, Kathryn, of Sapphire, NC; daughters, Pam Pafford and husband, Jim, of Tallahassee, Beth Nichols and husband, Gary, of Islamorada, FL; brother, Joe Muss Pruett and wife, Mary, of Shawvers Mill; sisters, Margaret Leffel and husband, Pete, of Bluefield, VA, Van Davis Boling of Lubbock, TX, Sue Hamilton of Parkersburg, WV; grandchildren, Jim Bo Pafford, Amanda Pafford, William Pafford, Kelly Nichols, and Katie Lou Nichols; and many nieces and nephews.

George Perry Richardson
George Perry Richardson, 85, of the Pine Creek section of Swords Creek, died Sept. 20 at his home.
Born Feb. 28, 1922 in Russell County, he was a son of the late Walter and Lucille Turner Richardson.
He was a retired coal miner, truck owner and operator. He was of the Pentecostal faith and attended the Worship Center on Miller Creek.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Julia “Tootsie” Richardson; one son, Benny Richardson; three brothers, Elmer Richardson, Arnold Richardson and Woodrow Richardson; four sisters, Mary Richardson, Marie Perkins, Pansy Whited and Clara Miller; and two step-children.

Betty Sue Robinson
Betty Sue Robinson, 49, of Bristol, TN, formerly of Buchanan County, died Sept. 18 at the Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, TN, following an extended illness.
Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Orbra and Marie Runyon Robinson.
She was a resident of Buchanan County most of her life, prior to moving to Bristol, TN, and was a member of the Harman Freewill Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Grundy High School and was a wonderful homemaker.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Pansy Deel; three brothers, Danny Lee Robinson, J.T. Robinson and James L. Robinson; and special aunt, Pinkie Horn, with whom she had made her home most of her adult life prior to moving to Bristol.
Survivors: sisters, Kim Robinson, Wanda and husband, James Slone, and Kathy and husband, Johnny Mitcheum, all of Grundy; brothers, Ralph and wife, Mavis Robinson, of Grundy, Orbra and wife, Diane Robinson, of Hurley, Bobby and wife, Alice Robinson, of Tazewell; special friend, Furman (Bubba) Thomas of Bristol, TN; three nieces; six nephews; and 11 great-nieces and great-nephews.
The funeral was conducted Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evg. Dennis Wimmer officiating.
Entombment followed in Mountain Rest Mausoleum at Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock.

Carmel (Carmie)
Harrison Smeltzer
Carmel (Carmie) Smeltzer, 65, was born Sept. 8, 1942 in Wyoming County, WV and departed this life Sept. 20 at Heritage Hall in Tazewell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Goff Preston Smeltzer and Dorcas Smeltzer Lowe; one sister, Mary Louise Tolliver; one brother, John Lester Smeltzer; and one nephew, Michael Smeltzer.
Left to cherish his memories are three brothers, Walter Johnson and wife, Bobbie, of Bluefield, VA, Robert Smeltzer and wife, Arlene, of Cleveland, Joseph Smeltzer and wife, Barbara, of Tazewell; sisters, Geraldine Johnson and husband, Bob, of Bastian, Judy Riley and husband, Frank, of Front Royal, Jane Gillette and husband, Don, of King, NC, Naomi Jenkins and husband, Louis, of Tazewell; very special caregiver and companion, Cathy Mays, who has assisted Carmel for the past few years; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and a host of friends and surrogate family members at Heritage Hall in Tazewell, where he has resided for the past 22 years. 
The family received friends at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 22.
Following the visitation, graveside services were conducted at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Thompson Valley.

Delmer Smith
Delmer Smith, 56, of Mavisdale, died Sept. 20.
Born March 29, 1951, he was the son of the late Emmet and Thelma Keene Smith. 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Beverley Ann.
Survivors: wife, Judi of 35 years; daughter, Stephany Sunshine Melhuish and husband, Derek, of Woodbind, MD; sons, Stephan Smith and fiancée, Megan Johnstone, of Oakwood; Byron Emmanuel Smith and Andrew Allan Smith, both of the home; grandchildren, Derian Rouel Melhuish, Trevoe Alvah Melhuish, Caroline Lesette Melhuish, Lillie Elaine Johnstone and Nathaniel Cole Smith; brothers, Jerry Lee Smith and wife, Jackie, of Rowe, Harold Smith of Oakwood; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain with Rev. Mike Rife, Rev. Wayne Cline and Rev. Jody Breeding officiating.
Burial followed in the Ratliff Cemetery at Mavisdale.
 
Darlis Jeanette Street
Darlis Jeanette Street, 73, of Oakwood, died Sept. 21 in a Richlands hospital following an extended illness.
Born in Russell County, she was the daughter of the late Curtis Glen Harris and Catherine Grace Boyd Harris.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer “Doc” Street; one daughter, Sandra Gail Street; three brothers, Jimmy Lee Harris, Roy Roger Harris and Lewis Glen Harris; one brother-in-law, Denver Street; and one sister-in-law, Jo Ann Street.
Survivors: daughter, Sharon Annette Davis and husband, Jack, of Oakwood; brothers, Harold Harris of Smithville, OH, Jerry Harris and wife, Letah, of Camarillo, CA, Danny Harris and wife, Sue, of Mt. Liberty, OH; sister, Joyce Butler of Mt. Vernon, OH; granddaughter, Tonya Noel Buchanan and husband, Jeff; grandson, Jerry Heath Davis and wife, Alisha; great granddaughter, Alifair Grace Buchanan; sisters-in-law, Margaret Harris and Draper Street; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A private graveside service was conducted at Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery at Claypool Hill with Rev. Ancil Childress officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, NY 10605.
Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff was in charge of arrangements.
