Harry Junior Barnett
Harry Junior Barnett, 79, of Cedar Bluff, died Sept. 27 at a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Raven, he was a son of the late John and Lilly Turner Barnett, both Raven natives.
For several years, he lived in Ohio but made his home in Richlands most of his life and was an employee of Pounding Mill Ford at Claypool Hill for over 35 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Harry Clinton Barnett; one grandchild, Tony Barnett; three sisters; and two brothers.
Survivors: wife, Norma Webb Barnett; daughters, Eva Ann Johnson and husband, Bill, of Paintlick, Teresa Farmer and husband, John, of Swords Creek, Harriett Cordle of Richlands, Betty Jean Barnett of Ohio; sisters, Virginia Droll of Annapolis, MD, Mary Bell Hess of Claypool Hill; brothers, Douglas Barnett of Delaware, David Barnett of Richlands; sister-in-law, Monique Webb of Tazewell; brothers-in-law, Howard C. Webb and wife, Linda, of Roanoke, Roger Webb and wife, Teresa, of Salem, David Webb, and wife, Bonnie, of Marion; five grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a host of friends; and lifelong friends, Bob Mullins and Draper Lockhart.
The funeral was conducted Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. David Osborne and Rev. Clyde Ball officiating.
Interment followed at 2 p.m. at the Ridge Dale Methodist Cemetery near Saltville.

Juanita Meade Davis
Juanita Meade Davis, 76, of Richlands, while being held by her children and surrounded by her family, made her journey home from this earthly life into the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ to live in heaven on Sept. 27.
Born June 12, 1931 to the late George Albert and Carrie Elizabeth Holland Meade, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved and cared for her family her entire life with an unconditional love only a mother can give.
She was of the Pentecostal Faith and a member of the Richlands Tabernacle. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Andrew B. Davis; one daughter, Connie Sue Davis Littrell; one grandson, Clint Wayne Littrell; one son-in-law, Rickey G. Littrell; and one infant grandson, Rickey Andrew Littrell; four sisters, Margaret Tuggle, Frankie Tuggle, Viola Owens, and Dorothy Keene; and three brothers, Glenn Meade, Howard Meade and Albert (AP) Meade.
Left to cherish her memory is her four children who God blessed to have her as their mother: Eddie Lee Davis and wife, Bonnie, of Richlands, Carol Stillwell and husband, Darrell, of Paintlick, Donna J. Davis with whom she resided, Bobbie Ray and husband, Terry, of Doran; grandsons, Kenny Stillwell, Chris Stillwell, Michael Stillwell and wife, Heather, Justin Littrell whom she lovingly raised and guided and his wife, Hope, and Blake Ray; granddaughters, Cynthia Davis and Emily Ray; great grandchildren, Lauren and Logan Stillwell and Gavin Isaac Littrell; and sisters-in-law, Juanita Meade, Frances Meade and Dorothy Meade.
The funeral was conducted Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. at the Richlands Tabernacle with the Rev. Ralph Horton and Rev. Bob Osborne officiating.
Interment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands was in charge of arrangements.

Louise Ellen Dye
Louise Ellen Dye, 73, of Swords Creek, died Sept. 29 in a Richlands hospital.
Born Jan. 12, 1934               in Swords Creek, she was a daughter of the late Patton and Dora Hess Dye.
A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of Lynn Springs Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jay C. Dye; one daughter, Wanda Sue Dye; one grandson, Gary Wayne Dye; one great-granddaughter, Stephanie Nicole Clark; five brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors: daughters, Brenda Richardson and Barbara Blankenship, both of Doran, Sandy Hubbard and husband, Dean, of Cedar Bluff, Linda Wilson of Swords Creek; sons, Larry Dye and wife, Mary, Harold Dye and wife, Linda Jean, and Jeff Dye and wife, Jennifer, all of Swords Creek, Virginia and Stevie Dye and wife, Toni, of Honaker; grandchildren, Jeffery Jay Dye, Jr., Trena Boyd, Teresa Dye, Deana Clark, Kathy Justice, Christopher Hubbard, Timothy Richardson, Billy Blankenship, Joseph Wilson and Shirley Wilson; nine step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; special brothers, Frank Dye of Honaker, Perry Dye of Swords Creek; loving sister, Ebbie Hess of Swords Creek; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Oct. 3 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Delmer Spencer, Rev. Billy Harris and Rev. Daniel Richardson officiating.
Interment will follow in the Boyd-Dye Cemetery in Swords Creek.

Brother Hershel Farmer
Brother Hershel C. Farmer, 69, of Tazewell, died Sept. 27 at a Richlands hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Duty, he was a son of the late Albert and Mertie Barton Farmer, both Duty natives.
He made his home in the Richlands area the past 50 years, was a U. S. Army Veteran, and a licensed Church of God Minister. He served in the ministry over 35 years and was so dedicated to the Family Night Gospel Sing radio program with WGTH for 25 years.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed by all his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Drucie Taylor, and two brothers, Curtis and Kent Farmer.
Survivors: wife, Rosa Farmer; daughter, Tammy Sue Bales and husband, Kevin, of Tazewell; sister, Gladys Farmer of Richlands; brothers, Hassell Farmer and wife, Peggy, of Norfolk, Claude Farmer and wife, Lois, of Elon, NC; and grandchildren, Rosalie Bales and Rachel Bales.
The funeral was conducted Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. at the New Hope Assembly of God Church at Claypool Hill with Rev. Claudie Throgmartin, Rev. Sammy Barnett, and Rev. Charles Casey officiating.
Interment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 conducted military graveside rites.

Fannie Nuckles Fletcher
Fannie Nuckles Fletcher, 98, of the Fletchers Ridge section of Rowe, went to be with her Lord and Saviour Sept. 30 at her home.
Born Aug. 26, 1909 in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late G.W. “Doc” and Clercy Ray Nuckles, and step-mother, the late Cora McFadden Nuckles, whom she loved very much.
She was married Jan. 16, 1933 to Claude Fletcher for 67 years before his passing in 2000.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Gladys Hess, Ruby Johnson, Vernie and Ocie Nuckles; five brothers, Dewey Nuckles, Howard Nuckles, Marvin Nuckles, Edward Nuckles and Marshall Nuckles; and two sons-in-law, Sherman Compton and Sherman McGlothlin. She will be missed by all her family and friends and hope to someday meet her in Heaven.

The funeral was conducted at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Troy Harris, Rev. Claude Rose, and Rev. Ellis Nuckles officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Oct. 3 at the Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon.

Ruth Groth
Ruth Groth, 82, of North Tazewell, died Sept. 26 at her home.
Born May 1, 1925 in Postdam, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Wilhelm Kreuger and Emma Kaukereit Kreuger.
She was a member of the Church of Christ at Cliffield.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kurt Groth, two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors: daughters, Christina Porter of Fayetteville, NC, Petra “Pat” Matney and husband, Bobby, of North Tazewell; grandchildren, Vivien Porter, Manuel Porter, Steven Porter, Dean Matney and Stephanie Sizemore; and great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Santos-Porter, Brandon Matney, Jacob Matney, Joshua Matney, Joey Matney, William Sizemore and Nick Sizemore.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Sept. 28 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff with Brother Steve Payne officiating.
Burial followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Maynard William Hicks
Maynard William Hicks, 86, of Springville, died Sept. 27 at Heritage Hall Health Care in Tazewell.
Born Dec. 5, 1920 at Boone, NC, he was a son of the late Clarence and Pearl Erwin Hicks.
He was a member of the Dial Rock Church of God in Tazewell and had served as Sunday School Superintendent for over 50 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Clinton Turley, one baby sister and four brothers.
Survivors: wife of 66 years, whom he lovingly called Doll, Velva Rae Hess Hicks; children, Bill Hicks and wife, Judy, of Tip Top, Lawanda Kent of Independence, MO, Connie Voll and husband, Pete, of Walnut Cove, NC, Bruce Hicks and wife, Kathy, Anthony Hicks and wife, Connie, Rebecca Turley and husband, Larry, and Venisha Buchanan and husband, Steve, all of Springville; sisters, Lucy Miller and husband, Kermit, of Valparaiso, FL, Mildred Howell of Sumter, SC, Verlee Buchanan of Abbs Valley; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; special caregivers, Lilly Asbury and Kim Cleaver; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Dial Rock Church of God in Tazewell with the Rev. John Canning and the Rev. Randy Fielder officiating.
Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.

Gladys Deerah Amey Honaker
Gladys Deerah Amey Honaker, 87, of Tazewell, died Sept. 26 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands.
Born Jan. 12, 1920 at Gassaway, WV, she was a daughter of the late Flem Drannon Amey and Ethel Street Amey.
She was a member of the Dial Rock Church of God.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Sessler Honaker; two daughters, Carol Sargent and Dolly Lewis; one son, John D. Honaker; three grandchildren; three sisters, Mae Harman, Laura Amey and Norma Lee; and three brothers, Ordell Amey, Paul Amey, and Flem D. Amey, Jr.
Survivors: son, Lonnie Honaker and wife, Norma, of Harrisonburg; daughters, Alice Carner Boyd and husband, Lowell, of Swords Creek, Shelia Morris and companion, Tom Davis, Sharon Cramer and husband, Robert, and Heather Nichole Honaker, all of Tazewell; sister, Dorothy Childress and husband, Lonnie, of Crew; son-in-law, Alfred Lewis of Tazewell; daughter-in-law, Tina Honaker of Tazewell; 24 grandchildren; and 35 great grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Sept. 29 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. John Canning officiating.
Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.

Danny Ray Lambert
Danny Ray Lambert, 39, of Doran, died Sept. 26 in a Richlands hospital.
Born April 15, 1968 in Beaumont, TX, he was a son of Shirley Perrigan Lambert of Lebanon and the late Charles W. Lambert. 
Additional survivors: son, Justin Ray Lambert of Midland, TX; daughters, April Lambert Jones and husband, Steven, Latisha Lambert and Christy Lambert, all of Midland; ex-wife, Sara Henderson; girlfriend, Angie Lester; grandchildren, Nathaniel Jones and Cory Jones, both of Midland; brothers, Charles Lambert, Jr. of Denton, TX, Lonnie Ray Lambert of Monroe, TX, David Lambert of Odessa, TX, Robert Lynn Harris of Richlands; sister, Barbara Sue Lambert of Lebanon; special sister-in-law, Betty Cornwell of Odessa; nieces, Jennie Mitchell and Jessica Cornwell; and great-nephew, Christopher Lewis.
The funeral was conducted at 1 p.m. Sept. 28 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Rick Lester officiating.

Elizabeth S. Lockhart
Elizabeth S. Lockhart, 84, of Tazewell, died Sept. 27 at the University of Virginia Hospital.
Born Sept. 20, 1923 in Tazewell, she was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Bertie Fleenor Sorah.
She was a member of the Tazewell Presbyterian Church in Tazewell, where she served faithfully. She worked at Tazewell Elementary School for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jennings D. Lockhart; two daughters, Mary Jane Sillers and Linda L. Bowen; one son-in-law, Bill Sillers; two grandchildren, William Clay Sillers and Cara Elizabeth Sillers; two brothers, Walter “Chick” Sorah and Major Sorah; and four sisters, Ethel S. Henegar, Lucille S. Riley, Janice S. Rutherford, and Ellen S. Yost.
Survivors: son-in-law, Jim Bowen, Sr. of Charlottesville; grandchildren, Jimmy Bowen of Washington, DC, Eric Bowen of Farmville, Chad Sillers of Elgin, TX, Ryan Sillers of Evanston, IL; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Bowen and Lauren Bowen, both of Washington, DC, Jason Bowen, John Henry Bowen and Brian Davis Bowen, all of Farmville, Lisa Sillers of North Branch, MI; sister, Sallie Rasnick of Tazewell; and sisters-in-law, Lucille Sorah of Bristol, TN, Elizabeth Sorah of Mechanicsville, and Louise Angles of Tazewell.
A memorial service was conducted at 3 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Tazewell Presbyterian Church in Tazewell with Dr. James H. Grant and the Rev. Eddie Nash officiating.
Prior to the memorial service, there was a private burial.

Donnie Dean Proffitt
Donnie Dean Proffitt, 54, of Richlands, died Sept. 30.
Born Oct. 2, 1952 in Red Ash, he was the son of the late Marvin Hasten and Vinia Agnes Byrd Proffitt. 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Shelton, and one brother, Marvin Hasten Proffitt, Jr.
Survivors: brothers, Roger Proffitt and wife, Brenda, of Cedar Bluff, Larry Proffitt and wife, Linda, of Doran; sisters, Alice Reedy of Jewell Ridge, Peggy Shook of Hickory, NC; special niece, Debbie Keene; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Oct. 3 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff with Rev. Clarence Brown officiating.
Burial will follow in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery at Richlands.

Janice Lorraine Smith
Janice Lorraine Smith, 64, of North Tazewell, died Sept. 27 at her home following a lengthy illness.
Born at Welch, WV, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Belcher and Virgie Belcher.
She was a homemaker and life long resident of the Tazewell area. She was of the Church of God faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
Survivors: husband, Ronnie Smith; son, Michael Faykus and wife, Marie, of Beckley, WV; daughters, Sherry Lilly of Narrows, Terri Caldwell and husband, James; sisters, Dorothy Stacy of Tazewell, Betty Furrow of Welch, WV; grandchildren, Ashley and Brandon Faykus, William Lilly, Tabitha Caldwell, Richard Pack and wife, Cherish; and great grandchildren, Tolliver and Mali Pack.
A graveside service was conducted Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton, WV, with Rev. Thomas “Jack” Puckett officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home of Tazewell was in charge of arrangements.
