Friday’s thunder showers cleared and cooled the air, the sunshine returning in time for the kickoff of Smyth County’s American Cancer Society Relay for Life at Marion Senior High School.
While the number of overnight Relay campers was down from previous years, the enthusiasm of those attending was as abundant as ever for their crusade to find cancer cures. The survivors’ stories remained as poignant as in the past, and the luminary ceremony with bagpipes was as meaningful as always.
The 30 Relay for Life teams contributed a reported $94,000 to the American Cancer Society in support of its research.
