The Scott Memorial Middle School Cross Country Club has participated in three cross country meets recently.
The first was a 1.5 mile run in the Shoney’s Run fer da Hills at South Holston Dam in Bristol, Tenn. on Sept. 1. The times and places for the race for boys (with 142 running) were:  Owen Morgan 9:35 (22nd), Coleman Dove 10:24 (47th), Michael Hancock 10:25 (49th), Alex Campbell 10:47 (68th), Austin Thomas 10:52 (65th), Rhodes Kline 11:21 (81st), Christopher Black 12:20 (107th), Trevor Williams 12:55 (115th) and Chuck Peterson 14:43 (136th).
The times for the girls’ race (with 123 girls running) were:  DeAnna Hedgepeth 10:33 (17th), Maria Stoker 11:44 (43d), and Jessica Hudnall 12:16 (51st).
The second meet was a 1.4 mile run for the 6th and 7th graders, and a 5K for the 8th graders at the Christiansburg Blue Demon Invitational on Sept. 8. The 6th and 7th grade boys and girls competed together in a field of 73 runners.  The times and places were:  Owen Morgan 8:58 (9th), Coleman Dove 10:20 (37th), Clayton Wright 11:29 (59th) and Maria Stoker 12:12 (63d).
The 8th graders’ times with 100 boys and 69 girls running were:  Michael Hancock 24:41 (66th), Austin Thomas 25:28 (72d), Rhodes Kline 26:49 (79th), Christopher Black 30:37 (93d), Bryan Cochran 31:02 (94th), Chuck Peterson 33:12 (97th), DeAnna Hedgepeth 28:04 (35th) and Leithan Smelser 30:14 (51st).
The third meet was held on Sept. 15 at Hungry Mother Park in Marion.  The 1.8 mile run had 94 boys and 166 girls running.  The weather finally cooled into the 60s for this favorite race of the runners.  The times for the boys were:  Owen Morgan 11:16 (10th), Coleman Dove 12:47 (41st), Bryan Cochran 13:19 (56th), Rhodes Kline 13:24 (58th) and Christopher Black 15:32 (86th).
The girls’ times were:  DeAnna Hedgepeth 12:59 (21st), Jessica Hudnall 13:20 (30th), Maria Stoker 13:40 (38th), Leithan Smelser 14:28 (61st), Hannah Horton 15:05 (76th), and Shalee Ratcliffe 17:35 (102d).
