Bobby Franklin Cunningham
Mr. Bobby Franklin Cunningham, 73, a well-known resident of Washington County, Virginia passed away on Sept. 29, 2007, in Wellmont Hospice House. He was born the son of the late Joseph L. and Mary Ogle Cunningham and was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Scott. He was retired from the N & W Railroad where he worked as a Clerk. He was a member of the Washington County Life Saving Crew for many years where he was active in the community. He was a member of the Abingdon Baptist Church and a member of the Harry Denton Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Ketron Cunningham of Abingdon; one daughter, Sue Blevins and husband, Curtis, of Troutdale, Va.; one son, Lonnie Cunningham of Abingdon; one grandson, Heath Cunningham; one brother, Millard Cunningham and wife, Bonnie, of Abingdon; one niece, Teresa Ornduff and husband, Rick, of Abingdon, and their daughter Ashley.
Funeral Services for Mr. Bobby Franklin Cunningham were conducted Oct. 2 in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Richard Foil officiating. Private Graveside Services were conducted Oct. 3 at the Knollkreg Memorial Park with the Rev. Parke Deans officiating. Active pallbearers were Don May, Danny Plummer, Wayne Venable, Tommy Castle, John Berry and Jason Berry. Honorary pallbearers were the Men of the Harry Denton Sunday School Class and his many friends of the Washington County Life Saving Crew. In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be made to the Wellmont Hospice House, P.O. Box 1069, Kingsport, TN 37662 in memory of Mr. Bobby Cunningham. Frederick Hall
Mr. Frederick “Fred” Hall, 58, of Glade Spring passed away on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at the Valley Healthcare Center in Chilhowie. Born in Washington County, he was a son of the late Jack Hall and Laura Adaline Fields Hall. He was a Mechanic and was previously employed by the Washington County School System. Mr. Hall was a life member of the Glade Spring Fire Department and had served as the Assistant Fire Chief and was a member of the Glade Spring Life Saving Crew. He was an accomplished Bluegrass Musician and will be remembered for his banjo playing at community events. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his twin brother, Leo Hall.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Hall and wife, Sherri, of Chilhowie; Jason Hall and wife, Leann, of Abingdon; three grandchildren, Alexis Hall, Timothy Hall and Samuel Hall; two brothers, Jack Hall of Suffolk, Va., and Brian Hall of Richmond; and special friend, Edy.
The family wishes to say a special thanks to the staff of Wellmont Hospice, Valley Healthcare in Chilhowie and to his friends at DJ’s Pizza.
Graveside Services for Mr. Fred Hall were conducted Oct. 2 at the Old Baptist Cemetery in Glade Spring. Pallbearers were members of the Glade Spring Fire Department and the Glade Spring Life Saving Crew.

Dorothy Coonts McDonald
Mrs. Dorothy Coonts McDonald, 87, of 569 Sycamore St., Glade Spring, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee W. McDonald.
Dorothy was born April 5, 1920, in Belington, W.Va. She was a graduate of Alderson-Broadus College, Phillippi, WV, and a former elementary school teacher in Barbour County, W.Va., and Baltimore County, Md. She was a member of Byars-Cobb United Methodist Church in Glade Spring.
She is survived by her daughters, Lenora Smith and husband, Leonard, of Damascus and Beth Sheffield and husband, David, of Glade Spring; grandchildren Lee Anne Sheffield, Michael Sheffield and Matthew Sheffield, all of Glade Spring; Kristi Smith Slaughter and husband, Kevin, of Bristol; and great-granddaughter Kassidy Slaughter of Bristol.
Funeral services were held at Sept. 30 at Carvosso United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Leonard Smith officiating. Burial was at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, Abingdon. Active pallbearers were Leonard Smith, David Sheffield, Michael Sheffield, Matthew Sheffield, Eddie Sheffield, Kevin Slaughter. Honorary pallbearers were Ken Roop, Charlie Ross Moore, D.C. Cobler and Brandon Lester, Roy Coonts, Rex Coonts, Gaile Coonts, Jerry Musick and Tom Holiday.
Dorothy’s family would like to extend special thanks to caregivers Carol Elmore, Karen Poe, Edna Creasy and Lee Anne Sheffield, and also to Naomi Barrett, Hospice of Southwest Virginia, and Dr. Mark Handy.

Helen Louise Carico Morton
Helen Louise Carico Morton, 84, formerly of 581 Morton-Pulliam Road, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at the Roxboro Nursing Center. Born in Wise County, Mrs. Morton was the daughter of the late Hobart Bishop and Maude Bryant Carico, wife of the late Errol D. Morton Jr., and mother of the late Robert B. Morton. Mrs. Morton was a homemaker and previously worked for the Person County School System. She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a past president of the UMW. Mrs. Morton was an avid bridge player.
Mrs. Morton is survived by two children, Errol D. (Sonny) Morton III, of Danville, Va., and Patricia M. Wrenn, of Roxboro; five grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Morton, Nicholas Garrett Morton, Douglas Adams Wrenn, Leigh Anne Wrenn and Errol D. Morton IV.
Funeral services were held Monday at Concord United Methodist Church by the Rev. William A. Boykin. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Nicholas Garrett Morton, Douglas Adams Wrenn, Dan Lawrence, Tommy Wagstaff, Tim Taylor, Cleve Wagstaff, and Bruce Wrenn.

Margaret Gwendolyn Pippin
Margaret Gwendolyn Pippin, 83, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mrs. Pippin was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Virginia and had been a resident of Grace Health Care Center for the past three years. She was a daughter of the late Beatty Mink and Flossie Marshall Mink and was the widow of Kanzo Pippin.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Bill Hockett of Meadowview, Va.; her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Sue Pippin of Waldorf, Md.; her sister Maxine Moore of Hampton, Va.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service was conducted at Oct. 1 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Bob Neace officiating. In place of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 960 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 or the American Heart Association, 208 Sunset Drive, Suite 113, Johnson City, TN37640. George Warren White
George Warren White, 93 passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Mr. White was born in the Smith Creek Community of Washington County on Nov. 11, 1913. He was the son of Henry White and Maude Harley White. He enjoyed fox hunting, farming, his garden and giving to his neighbors in the Wyndale Community of Washington County.
He was a member of the Valley View Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, son Berl L.White, brother, Malcolm White and sister, Maxie Carswell.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ethel Andis White; son Roger White and wife, Cecilia; grandson, Lee White and wife, Lisa; great-granddaughter,
Akeyla White; and sisters Francis White, Ruby Andis, Virginia McCroskey and Daisy Wampler.
A graveside service was conducted Sept. 30 in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens with the Rev. Kenneth Widner officiating.
Pallbearers were Daryll Simcox, Gary Andis, James Duty, Blake Andis, Brad Andis and Wade Andis.

Edith Carol Hunter Baze Worsnop
Ms. Edith, 84, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007. She was the precious mother of Diane Baze Holloway. Ms. Edith came to Virginia in 2001 after living for many years in California. She was born on July 15, 1923, was originally from Belfast, Ireland, and immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada with her family at three years of age. She married a young Air Force Sergeant and eventually made her home in California. Ms. Edith never met a stranger and was loved and respected by all who met her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands F.D. Baze and Harry Worsnop. Her son James Martin Baze went to be with the Lord in 2001.
She has left behind her daughter Diane and caring son-in-law, Steve Holloway of Bristol, Va., and a daughter Colleen Bailey of California. She is also survived by four very caring grandchildren, their spouses and great-grandchildren: Dana and Mike Whidby and their children Michaela and Madisen; Kimberly and Stewart Pack and their children Henry, Simon and Julia; Pamela and Thomas Booher and their children Ethan and Ava; and Jason and Robin Dobbins and soon to be baby Owen; and two grandchildren Diane Russo and Angie Withrow, given to her from her son Jim.
Ms. Edith will be sadly missed by all. A special goodbye from dear friend Judy Gross and others, as well as her puppies Hannah and Max, who were constant daily companions. We love you and will miss you!
A memorial service honoring the life of Ms. Edith was held Sunday, Sept. 30 at Pleasant View United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Goddard officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Pleasant View United Methodist Church, who has the Lord’s work to do through us.
