Patricia Ann (Pat)
Rigney Dillon
Patricia Ann (Pat) Rigney Dillon, 74, of Abbs Valley, went to be with the Lord Oct. 8 at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, TN, following a long illness.
Born Aug. 14, 1933 at Bramwell, WV, she was a daughter of the late Millard Lee Rigney and Mabel Belcher Rigney.
When able to attend she loved attending church. She attended both the Abbs Valley Wesleyan and Abbs Valley Gospel Mission churches. She enjoyed working jig saw puzzles and feeding wild squirrels crackers through her kitchen window. She wrote many articles about the veterans for years for the Bluefield Daily Telegraph. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and rode in many Veteran’s Day parades with dignitaries such as, Jay Rockefeller. She loved her veterans and her family dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Kenneth Dillon; five brothers, Junior (Lee) Rigney, Tommy Rigney, Rev. Harry Rigney, James (Ronald) Rigney and Morris Rigney.
Left behind to cherish her memories are sons and their wives, Larry and Sally Dillon, and James and Lesa Dillon, all of Abbs Valley; grandchildren, Jamie Cartwright of Pocahontas, Melinda and Kenny Dillon of Massachusetts, Holly Dillon of Harrisonburg, Frank Moure of Kentucky and Melanie Kilpatrick of Colorado; and great grandchildren, Jordyn Rash and Jocelyn Cartwright of Pocahontas and Ryan Kilpatrick of Colorado.
The funeral was conducted at 1 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Abbs Valley Gospel Mission Church with the Rev. Kenneth Gillespie officiating.
Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.
Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell was in charge of arrangements.
Catherine Ruth Fields
Catherine Ruth Fields, 67, of Richmond, died Oct. 10.
Born Jan. 20, 1940 in Saltville, she was the daughter of the late Sam C. W. and Lacie Ellen McNew McCray.
She moved to Richmond in 1961. She was a 33 year retiree of MCV Hospital.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Harry W. Johnson, Jr.
Survivors: children, Scott A. Fields and Cathy Fields Wickline, both of Richmond, along with their father and dear friends, David L. Fields and wife Joyce. She is also survived by her siblings, Madge M. Johnson of Richlands, Charles S. McCray and wife, Cathy, of Pawley’s Island, SC, and B.J. McCray and wife, Ruthie, of Richmond.
Memorial services were held Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. at Washington Memorial Park in Sandston.

Singleton Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Harless Honaker
Harless Honaker, 56, of Honaker, died Oct. 11 in a Lebanon hospital.
Born Jan. 1, 1951 in Russell County, he was a son of Billy Honaker of Finney and the late Sophie Ellen Ball Honaker.
A lifelong resident of the area, he was a disabled coal miner and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by one sister, Alena Louella Honaker, and a dear friend, Glen Allen Harris.
Additional survivors: wife of 25 years, Rita Ann Ball Honaker; sons, Avery Wayne Honaker of the home, Emory Harlen Honaker and wife, Jessica Robin Woodard, of Honaker, Scotty Gene Honaker; brothers, Billy Allen Honaker of Lebanon, Glen David Honaker of Castlewood, Michael Bryan Honaker and Billy Honaker, Jr., both of Honaker, Larry Gene Honaker of Finney; sisters, Margie Owens and Robin Juanita Smith, both of Honaker, Sharon Kay Stevens; grandchildren, Mikeal Dakota Blaze Woodard, Haley Montana Desserrhea Woodard and Dawson Jessee Honaker; special friends, Kenneth L. and Cleo Dye and Dr. Norman Rexrode; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Guy Harris officiating.
Interment followed in the Ball Cemetery at Finney.
Mason Howard Lowe
Mason Howard Lowe, 81, of Cedar Bluff, died Oct. 12.
Born Dec. 6, 1925 in Tazewell County, he was the son of the late Riley George and Minnie Beavers Lowe.
He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a retired coal miner and carpenter. He was a member of Westside Holiness Church at Raven.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lundy Lowe and John Lowe; two sisters, Ruby Blankenship and Ethel Smith; one grandson-in-law, Jerry Lambert; one great grandson, Levi Lambert; and three infant grandchildren.
Survivors: loving wife of 60 years, Annie Lamie Lowe; daughter, Mrs. L.C. (Nancy Anne) Hubbard of Cedar Bluff; sister, Ruth Lowe of Havre de Grace, MD; grandchildren, Anna Robinson and husband, Tom, of Lebanon, Garnett Hubbard and wife, Laura, of Cedar Bluff, Nancy Prater and husband, Cliff, of Cedar Bluff, Mason Hubbard and wife, Tracie, of Jacksonville, AL; 12 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Oct. 14 at Westside Holiness Church at Raven with Brother Mike Roberts officiating.
Burial followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
Military graveside rites were conducted by Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640.

Harold Lee Miller
Harold Lee Miller, 73, of the Miller Creek section of Swords Creek, died Oct. 9 in a Tazewell nursing facility.
Born Oct. 23, 1933 in Russell County, he was a son of the late Roscoe and Leona Crouse Miller.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and a disabled coal miner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Larry Miller, Lacey Miller, and Rev. Jessee Miller, and one granddaughter, Lauren Vance.
Survivors: daughter, Connie Vance and husband, Dean, of Honaker; granddaughter, Lindsay Vance of Honaker; brothers, Justin Miller and wife, Lula Mae, of Honaker, Houston Miller and wife, Judy, Stevie Miller and wife, Nina, and Preston Miller and wife, Madge, all of Swords Creek; sister, Roberta Hylton and husband, J.B., of Canton, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Oct. 12 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Jimmy Richardson, Rev. Dennis White, and Rev. Leo Hess officiating.
Interment followed in the Miller Cemetery on Miller Creek.
Zonia (June) Olson
Zonia (June) Patrick Olson, 84, of Red Ash, died Oct. 8 in a Tazewell hospital.
Born Aug. 27, 1923 in McDowell County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Riley and Juliette Blanchett Patrick.
She was of the Holiness faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Olson.
Survivors: daughter, Alice Vance and husband, Ralph, of Doran; son, Marcus R. Olson and wife, Carol, of Lebanon; sisters, Clara Jean Stringer and husband, Ray, and Virginia Maynard, all of Dayton, OH, Julia Wiles of Butler, PA, Gail Shelton and husband, Larry, of Doran; brothers, Jack R. Patrick and wife, Irene, of Paintlick, Marcus L. Patrick and wife, Dona, of Brookville, OH; grandsons, Kevin Vance and Stephen Vance; granddaughters, Jessica Olson and Amanda Rutherford; great grandsons, Blake Vance, Dakota Olson and Will Rutherford; great granddaughters, Emily Vance and McKenzee Shepherd; four step grandchildren; and several step great grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Oct. 11 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff with Rev. Charles Casey officiating.
Burial followed in the Shelton Cemetery at Red Root Ridge.
Sadie H. Patton
Sadie H. Patton, 83, of Tazewell, died Oct. 14 at her home.
Born April 28, 1924 in Carroll County, she was a daughter of the late William McKinley Hall and Loma Hall.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin L. Patton; one sister, Bessie Pauley; and one brother, James Hall.
Survivors: daughters, Kathy Puckett and husband, Kyle, of Tazewell, Wanda Paddock and husband, Dennis, of Detroit, MI; granddaughter, Nancy C. Tullock and husband, Michael, of Tazewell; great granddaughter, Ally Walls and fiancé, Joey R. Wade; niece, Brenda Powers of Roanoke; and nephew, Junior Pauley of Bland.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Oct. 17 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Robert Buckles officiating.
Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 12 noon Wed., Oct. 17.
Jimmy Arnold Ratliff
Jimmy Arnold Ratliff, 65, of Patterson, died Oct. 11 at Clinch Valley Medical Center.
Born Sept. 16, 1942 in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Carl and Edgar Mae Horn Ratliff.
He was of the Pentecostal faith. He was a 1960 graduate of Whitewood High School. He was a retired truck driver and business man.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bueford Paul Ratliff; father and mother-in-law, Phinas Church and Carrie Mae Church; and brothers-in-law, Rages Matney, Scotty Lambert, Lynburgh, Jethro and Alfred Church.
Survivors: wife of 40 years, Genola (Gail) Church Ratliff; sisters, Marie Matney and husband, Basil, of Richlands, Phyllis Matney of Oakwood, Martha Lambert of Cedar Bluff, Jan White and husband, Jerry, of Richlands, Sue Howington of Cedar Bluff, Doris Parks and husband, Rondal, of Grundy; brother, Arvil Ratliff and wife, Zella, of Oakwood; several nieces and nephews; special aunts, Lola Ward Williams of Richlands, Creda Horn of Pilgrim Knob, Pearl Caldwell of Columbus, OH; special dog, Buck; and a host of relatives and friends.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Oct. 14 at New Hope Assembly of God Church at Claypool Hill with Rev. Ronnie Parks, Rev. J.D. Keen and Rev. Charles Casey officiating.
Burial followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Emma Haye Sizemore
Emma Haye Sizemore, 92, of High Point, died Oct. 11 at Wesley Long Nursing Center.
She was born Nov. 27, 1914 in Dickson County. In previous years, she was very active at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School and lead the women’s group. She was a wonderful Christian woman who loved to read the Bible. She enjoyed traveling when she was younger. She will be remembered as a devoted mother and wonderful “gmaw.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elza L. Sizemore, Sr., in Sept. of 1968.
Survivors: sons, Jack Sizemore and wife, Charlotte, of Greensboro, Elza Lee Sizemore, Jr. and wife, Myrna, of Madison; a foster brother, Farley “Bud” Edmund Musick of Princeton, WV; grandchildren, Becky S. Clary and husband, TL, Greg Sizemore and wife, Audrey, Kevin Sizemore and wife, Holly; and great grandchildren, Nicole Clary, Hunter Clary, Conner Clary, Joshua Sizemore, Luke Sizemore, Isaiah Sizemore and Ella Sizemore.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Oct. 14 in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with the Reverend Ray Hamilton officiating.
Interment services were held at 11 a.m. Oct. 15 at Grandview Memorial Garden in Bluefield, VA.

William C. (Bill) Slaughter
William C. (Bill) Slaughter, 73, of Tazewell, died Oct. 14 at his home.
Born April 12, 1934 at Bishop, he was a son of the late Cody Andrew Slaughter and Carrie Penland Slaughter.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church at Richlands. He was a US Army veteran and a retired inspector for the Virginia Department of Transportation.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Honaker Slaughter; and one brother, Holly Slaughter.
Survivors: daughters, Kelli Carr and husband, Jeff, of Knoxville, TN, Leslea Howery and husband, Freddie, of Evans, GA; sister, Mary Jo Slaughter of Tazewell; brothers, Chester Slaughter of Toledo, OH, Bailey Slaughter of Roanoke, Lewis Slaughter of Christiansburg; and grandchildren, Caleb Carr, Ashton Howery, Alli Howery and Gabe Howery.
The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Wed., Oct. 17, at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell where funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Buddy Herald officiating.
Committal services and entombment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Oct. 18 at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield.
Those planning to attend the committal service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. Oct. 18.
Ronald Charles Stacy
Ronald Charles Stacy, 58, of Tazewell, formerly of the Slate Creek section of Grundy, died Oct. 11 at the Tazewell Community Hospital following an extended illness.
Born in McDowell County, WV, he was the son of the late Elmer Ronald and Alta Marie Anderson Stacy.
He was a resident of Buchanan County for many years, was of the Baptist Faith and was a retired mechanic.
He was preceded in death by one nephew, Robert Paul Looney.
Survivors: sister, Lydia Ann Looney of Grundy; brother, Elmer Russell and wife, Patricia Stacy, of Vansant; nieces, Melissa and husband, Chris Daugherty, of Abingdon, Kimberly and husband, Buddy Rutherford, of Roanoke, Kristi and husband, David Rose, of Vansant, Michelle Stacy of Haysi; and nephew, Brian and wife, Pam Stacy, of Vansant.
The funeral was conducted Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evg. William L. Neeley officiating.
Graveside services were held Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. at the Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill.

Homer Harmon Stevens
Homer Harmon Stevens, 84, of Rosedale, died Oct. 10 at his home.
Born June 17, 1923 in Cleveland, VA, he was a son of the late Floyd and Mary Boyd Stevens.
A lifelong resident of the Russell and Buchanan County areas, he was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA Local #1259. He was of the Freewill Baptist.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Wilma Sue Stevens, one grandson, Ricky Allen Stevens, and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors: wife of 64 years, Delphia Rasnake Stevens; daughters, Carnell Bethke and husband, Roger, of Huntsville, AL, Janice Milhorn and husband, Joe, of Fairview, NC; son, Homer Gene Stevens and wife, Eva Jean, of Rosedale; grandchildren, Kimberly Collins and husband, Mike, and Charles Bethke, all of Huntsville, J.J. Lacy Sam “Todd” Ward
Lacy Sam “Todd” Ward, 56, of Squire, WV, died Oct. 7 at his home.
Born Jan. 15, 1951 at Canebrake, WV, he was a son of the late Kyle and Mary Billings Ward.
He was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors: wife, Vivian Ward; son, David Ward of Baptist Valley; daughters, Nikki Ward of the home, Shelia Bines of Port Deposit, MD; brothers, Bud Ward and Allen Ward, both of Aberdeen, MD, Harry Ward of Tennessee; sisters, Gladys Bennett of Bridgeton, NJ, Frances Stallard of Illinois, Phyllis Scarborough of North East, MD, Barbara Fields, of Bristol, TN; special granddaughter, Reagan Ward; and grandsons, Matthew Kline and Mike Bines.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Oct. 11 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with The Rev. Johnny Webb officiating.
Burial followed at Hartwell Cemetery in Hartwell, WV, where military graveside rites were conducted by members of the Barns-Beavers VFW Post #7136 of Tazewell.
