Harley Rush Alderman, 92, of Willis, passed away on Monday September 15, 2008.
Mr. Alderman was a member of Willis United Methodist Church.
He was an original member of the “Good Intentions”
gospel singers.
His musical legacy is carried on by his great-grandson, Josh Reedy, of Decemberadio.
Mr. Alderman was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Remon Alderman, two infant sons, and a son-in-law, Donald G.
Sutphin.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Lonzie C. and Josephine H. Alderman; one daughter, Evah Sutphin;  five grandchildren and spouses, Sharon and Gary Reedy, Karen and Stanley Hawkins, Rhonda and Glenn Dixon, Becky Thompson, Jerry and Carol Sutphin; eleven great-grandchildren, Amy Jo Hawkins, Adam and Jacob Hawkins, Joshua and Carmen Reedy, Brittany, Hannah, Woody, and Joseph Dixon, Benjamin and Emily Thompson; two step-great grandchildren, Jacob and Zachary Griffith; four great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Josh Kilbourne and the Reverend Stanley Hawkins officiating.
Interment will follow at Willis Cemetery.
Friends may call at Gardner Funeral Home on Tuesday after 1:00 p.m. where the family will be from 6-8 p.m.
Arrangements are being handled by Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd.


Esther Dickerson Cox, 89 of Radford, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2008. She retired from Kenrose and loved to travel and to quilt. She was preceded in death by her husband Estle J. Cox, Sr., two sons Isaac and Kenneth Cox, two brothers Glen and Edgar Dickerson, and a sister Clydia Marshall.  Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, May Belle and Theodore Dishon of Dublin and Edith Young of VA. Beach; a son and daughter-in-law Estle, Jr. and Elaine Cox of Dublin; a daughter-in-law Patricia Cox of Hiwassee; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters Eula Weeks of MD, and Vesta Alderman and Uldine Duncan, both of Willis; two sisters-in-law Lettie Dickerson of Radford and Madaline and Guy Hogan of Forest; and a brother-in-law Victor Cox of Christiansburg. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Ronnie Duncan and Rev. Roy Turpin officiating. Interment will follow in the Big Sand Cemetery in Indian Valley. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106A, Roanoke, VA 24018. The Cox family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.

Shawn Brent Gerald, 28, of Pulaski, VA, formerly of Indian Valley, VA, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2008. He was born February 21, 1980 in Radford, VA. Brent was such an outgoing, loveable, fun person who loved his family and friends very dearly. Brent was survived by his parents, John Fredrick (Fred) Gerald, Sr. and Kathryn Sutphin Gerald; Brother and Sister-in-law, Freddie, Jr. and Lisa D. Gerald; Nieces: Emily, Lauren, and MacKenzie Gerald; Maternal Grandmother Elizabeth Sutphin; and Girlfriend Jamie Willard; and her daughter Cheyanne. Brent will be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Also, he will be missed by his beloved dogs: Miya, Cody, Kane, and Jadah. Brent was a graduate of the Class of 1998 from Floyd County High School. Brent was employed by Danaher Motion in Radford, VA. Flowers will be appreciated but donations can be made to the Gideon International Organization to be used for Bibles in Memory of Shawn Brent Gerald. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 1, 2008 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Indian Valley Church of God in Indian Valley, VA. Funeral services will by conducted at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the Indian Valley Church of God with the Rev. Kenneth Poston ad Rev. Joe Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the Captain George Quesenberry Cemetery in Indian Valley, VA. Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home in Floyd, VA.
