MILLEY BELCHER CONNER
FLOYD-Milley Belcher Conner, age 86, passed away Sunday August 26, 2007 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jabe Harmon Conner, daughter, Mary Wood, son-in-law, Hanson Goad, granddaughter, Carol Goad, and grandson, Kevin Conner.
Surviving are: daughters and sons-in-law, Irene Goad, Dugspur, Esther Conner, Meadows of Dan. Rachel Conner, Rebecca Conner, both of Floyd, Susie and David Hickman, Eden, NC, Waymon Wood, Vesta; sons and daughters-in-law, Henry Conner, Martinsville, Jabe and Kathy Conner, Lee Conner, James Conner, Glen & Susan Conner, all of Floyd; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with Rev. Wesley Conner and Rev. Clyde Bishop officiating. Interment followed at the Conner Family Cemetery.
Obit for ROGER LEON DALTON
WILLIS-Roger Leon Dalton, age 57, passed away Tuesday August 21, 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cavel and Winnie Hollandsworth Dalton.
Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Barbara Dalton, Derby, Kansas; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Brian Huff, Floyd; special friends, Judy Young, Floyd; Rita Smith, Willis;
brother and sister-in-law, Loy and Trish Dalton, Indian Valley; sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and Lloyd Swearengin, Clifton Forge; grandchildren, Amanda, Faith, Carson, Afton and Riley
Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday August 24, at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with Rev. Roy Turpin officiating. Interment followed at Indian Creek Cemetery. GENEVA HARRIS SIMMONS
FLOYD- Geneva Harris Simmons, of Floyd, was born on September 7, 1914 and passed away on August 23, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband; Percy Simmons, brother; Freeman Harris, & sister; Mary Hylton. Mrs. Simmons is survived by: her sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Donna Simmons of Roanoke and Bob and Jeanette Simmons of Floyd; granddaughters and their husbands; Karla and Clay Moran of Floyd, Amy and Matt Graziani of Southport, NC and Megan and Jason Nichols of Check; great-grandchildren, Luke and Zane Moran, Kayla, Conner and Callie Graziani, Paige and Leeah Nichols; brothers and wives, Wendell and Linita Harris, Russell and Marguarite Harris and Vernon Harris; sister and husband, Ruby and Calvin Dickerson; sister-in-law, Neva Dell Simmons.
Geneva loved the outdoors and for many years had a beautiful garden. She had many friends in the Falling Branch and Topeco Communities. She was a member of Topeco Church but also attended Falling Branch Church.
Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 25, at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with Rev. Mike Varner officiating. Interment followed at Topeco Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Topeco Church Deacon’s Fund or to Falling Branch Church.
The family would like to thank Dr. Susan Osborne, the staff at Skyline Manor Nursing Home and Nancy Caskey for their dedicated assistance before Geneva’s life journey ended.
MAGDALENE BOLT SLUSHER
MARTINSVILLE-Magdalene Bolt Slusher, 81, died Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at the R.J. Patrick Memorial Hospital in Stuart. She was born in Floyd County on September 24, 1925 to the late Walter Bolt and Ingledove Moles Bolt. She was retired after over 30 years of service with Bassett-Walker. She was a member of Hill Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters, Gertrude Huff, Berdie Kemp and Edith Webb, one brother, Kermit Bolt.
She is survived by: her husband, Hayden Slusher of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Janet S. and Conley Waddell of Martinsville; son and daughter-in-law, Elvin,Sr. and Earline Slusher of Pleasant Gardens, NC; brother, Mason Bolt of Willis; three grandchildren, Elvin L. Slusher,Jr., Melvin Slusher, Sr. and Steven Slusher; five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 24 at Howell Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Gillespie officiating. Burial followed in the Patrick Memorial Gardens in Patrick Springs.
MILLIE E. (BILL) WRIGHT
FLOYD-Millie E. (Bill) Wright, 85, passed away Friday, August 24, 2007.
He is survived by one daughter; special friends, Chris and Doris Dickerson, Floyd.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, August
27, 2007 at Lee Cemetery with the Reverend Leon
Wood officiating.
Friends may call on Sunday after 3:00 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home where they will be received from 6 until 8 p.m.
Arrangements are being handled by Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd.
