TIMOTHY COLEMAN CHISOM
ROANOKE-Timothy Coleman Chisom, 49, formerly of Salem, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2007. He was born May 21, 1958, the eldest son of Thomas Coleman and Barbara Scott Chisom of Salem. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 14 years, Loretta Prillaman Chisom of Roanoke; brother James L. Chisom and wife, Katherine Logan Chisom of Salem; sister, Jill C. Spencer and husband, James R. Spencer of Salem; parents-in-law, James and Gloria Prillaman of Roanoke; grandmother-in-law, Flora Nolen of Floyd; niece, Anne Claire Conner of Salem; nephews, William L. Chisom, J. Coleman Chisom and J.G. Burks Chisom of Salem; special friends, Randy Bergman of Carterville, GA, Thomas Lingle of Alexandria and Dick Funk of Pittsburgh and a host of extended family.
A funeral service was conducted on Monday, November 26, 2007 at noon at Lotz Funeral Home chapel in Salem. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation and the Lupus Foundation of America. The family would also encourage everyone to consider the importance of organ donation. Special thanks to their care and compassion to Dr. Ballenger, Dr. Temeles, Dr. Scialabba, Debbie Dooley and the nurses and staff at the Crystal Springs Dialysis unit and the Carilion Roanoke Memorial dialysis unit.

FLOYD-Etta Mae Leonard, 81, passed away Friday November 30, 2007. She was a faithful and longtime member of the Camp Creek Church. She retired from Floyd Garment Factory after many years of service.
She is survived by:  her daughter Gloria Alderman; brother, Robert Leonard; sister, Carmell Conett;  several special friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was a caregiver to many people. The family would like to express special thanks to the Floyd County Rescue Squad. Funeral services were held 2:00 P.M. Monday December 3, 2007 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Josh Kilbourne officiating. Internment was in Jacksonville Cemetery. There are three things that remain- faith, hope, and love- and the greatest of these is love. I Corinthians 13:13.

 

DUGSPUR-Carrie B. Spence, 92,  passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at Heritage Hall-Laurel Meadows.  Carrie was preceded in death by her husband Euell Spence,  parents Madison and Mary Bowman,  and children,  John, Daniel, Arden, David and Edward Spence.  She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law Carolyn Sue and Joe Stanley of Meadows of Dan and Lena Mae Webb of Laurel Fork; sons and daughter-in-law Bryan (Slick) Spence of Dugspur and J.D. and Linda Spence of Woodlawn; sisters Lucy Thomas of Patrick Springs and Nancy Mabry of Collinsville; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 
Carrie was remembered for her great love of sewing, quilting and her love for others. Her gift of great faith that she had in Jesus was demonstrated to her children for many years.  Of the many gifts she gave, one of the greatest was the gift of love.  “He Only Takes the Best . . . God saw she was getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around her and whispered, “Come with me.”  With tear-filled eyes we watched her suffer and fade away.  Although we love her deeply, we could not make her stay.”
Funeral service was held on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at the Buffalo Mountain Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m.  with Pastor Michael Sutphin, Rev. Robert R. Tolar and Rev. Neil Eidson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Spence Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on Tuesday night from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.  A guestbook is available online by visiting http://www.vaughanguynnandmcgrady.com.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.


BEVERLY JEAN DOTSON SUTTON
CHRISTIANSBURG-Beverly Jean Dotson Sutton, 53, died Wednesday, November 27, 2007.
Preceded in death by her mother; Beatrice Akers, she is survived by her husband of 28 years; Roger C. Sutton;  daughter and son-in-law; Diane and Frankie Feathers;  two grandchildren,  Isiac and Eathan;  and step-father; Russell Akers; brothers and sisters,  William, Mary, Georgette, Clarence, Clyde and Charlene also survive her.  The family will received friends from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2007 at The Horne Funeral Home with a service following at 2 p.m. with Mr. Clyde Bishop officiating.  Interment followed in Sunset Cemetery.  Online condolences may be sent to hornefuneralservice.com.  The Sutton family is being served by Horne Funeral Service.

LAURA LARSSON VANGUNTEN
FLOYD-Laura Larsson Vangunten, 46, passed away on Thursday, November 29. She was born on September 4, 1961 in Teaneck, New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Larsson.
She is survived by: her husband, Tom; sons Henry and Bobby; mother, Mary Larssonof Denville, New Jersey; brothers, Michael Larsson of Atlanta and Gregory Larsson of Denville; mother-in-law, Jackie Vangunten of Floyd and special friends, Connie Ratner, Alice Hardin, and Joni Quesenberry of Floyd. Special thanks to Sherry Reed and the Carilion Hospice Staff, also Rosemary Wyman and the other caregivers who helped so much.
Laura loved her family, friends, dogs, books and Christmas. She enjoyed her garden and all forms of nature. Laura was an independent and strong willed person, and was determined not be a burden to others during her long illness. Laura enriched many lives through her friendship and volunteer work.
Funeral service was held at Zion Lutheran Church on Monday, December 3 at 11 a.m. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Donations may be made to the Floyd County Humane Society, P.O. Box 862, Floyd, VA 24091 or your favorite charity. Arrangements were handled by Wood Funeral Home of Floyd.
