Sylvia Odell Wilson Conner, 91, of Check went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 5, 2008.
She was predeceased by her parents, Annie and Garfield Wilson, her husband, Alvis Conner, her son, Berkley G.
(B.G.) Conner, two sisters, Elzie Wilson and Blanche Custer, and a brother, Raymond Wilson.
Mrs. Conner loved to quilt, and made many beautiful ones.
She also enjoyed visiting her friends, working in her garden, and growing beautiful flowers.
She was a member of Salem (Head of the River) Primitive Baptist Church. She loved her Church and Church family, and was loved by all.
She is survived by a daughter, Rushie Conner and her husband, William (Benny), Check, VA; a sister, Rushie Violet Smith, Roanoke, VA; six grandchildren and spouses, William Glenn and Sue Conner, Calvin Ray and Barbara Conner, Leslie Dale and Shawn Conner, Randall B. and Melissa Conner, Donna Reynolds, Jeffrey and Ginger Conner; twelve great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and a very special friend, Frances Conner.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at Salem (Head of the River) Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Junior Conner and Mr. Don Wilson officiating.
Interment was at Restvale Cemetery.
Arrangements by Gardner Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank the staff and wonderful nurses at Skyline Manor Nursing Home for the excellent care given to her while she was there. A special thanks goes to Frances for her love, support, and special care given to her during her illness and while she was in the nursing home.
JOHN THOMAS
MCNEIL
CHECK-John Thomas McNeil, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28, 2008. He was the youngest child of Thomas Benton and Florence Aldridge McNeil. He was born July 23, 1917 in a two-story log house built by his grandfather. He was educated at Washington School, a one-room schoolhouse about two miles from his home. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine siblings: Lelia, Minor, James, Garnie, Theodore, Clarence, Paul, Mary, and Rachel. John lived and worked on the family farm all his life and also worked twelve years at Imperial Reading Corp., Christiansburg. He was an avid reader, a skilled woodworker, and a fine gardener.
He is survived by twenty-nine nephews and nieces. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with Rev. Glennard Quesenberry officiating.
Burial followed at McNeil Cemetery, Diamond Knob Road, Check, VA.
WILLIAM I. MEMITT
RINER-William I. Memitt, 79, a life long resident of Riner, went to be with Jesus on Monday, June 23, 2008.
He was a farmer and carpenter with numerous jobs and talents. He will be missed by his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Romeo and Mamie Memitt, sisters, Madeline Gearheart and Elizabeth Thomas, brother, Robert Memitt, and granddaughter, Jennifer Memitt.
He is survived by: his wife of 56 years, Mildred Memitt; three sons and their wives, Bill and Sandra Memitt, Ralph and Vickie Memitt and Ted and Pamela Memitt; sister and brother-in-law, Mitchell and Ruth Dowdy; sister, Mary Kipps; four grandsons, Eric Martin, Matt and Colby Memitt and Daniel Memitt; six granddaughters, Jessica Linkous, Ashlee, Tiffany, Skyler, Maegen and Abigail Memitt; great-grandchildren, Tristen Bond, Briana Martin and Shelia Memitt. Many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.
Funeral service was held on Thursday June 26, at 11:00 AM at Fellowship Baptist Church, Riner, with Pastor James Bradley and Pastor Russell Gordon officiating.
Interment followed at Duncan Cemetery on Broad Shoals Road, Riner.

Thompson, Ruby Alley Lester, 80 of Christiansburg, our loving mom, grandma, great grandma left, July 5, 2008 to a great family reunion in Heaven with her son; Jack, grandson; Daniel Lee, the father of her children and first husband; Luther (Red) Lester, second husband; Bill Thompson, mom, dad, and ten brothers and sisters. Waiting to walk the golden streets with her are her children and their spouses; Elsie Seabrook, Ronnie and Betty Lester, Carolyn Altizer, Betty Radar, Jimmy and Judy Lester, Judy and Gary Roberts, Kitty and Bruce Harris. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two loving companions; Rascal and Frosty.
