JOHN WILLIAM BONANNO
John William Bonanno, 73, of Floyd passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margarita Bonanno; four children and spouses, Lena and Dwayne Owens, Emma and Mike Quinn, John and Susan Bonanno, William and Darla Bonanno; brother, Anthony Bonanno; eleven grandchildren, Timothy Owens, Jeanette Owens, Steven Quinn, Amber Quinn, Taylor Quinn, Michelena Quinn, Nikolas Bonanno, Michael Bonanno, Dominic Bonanno, John Bonanno, Blake Bonanno.
A private memorial service will be held. Arrangements by Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd.

GERALD E. COCHRAN
COEUR D’ ALENE, IDAHO-Gerald Elwood Cochran, 76, died July 20, 2008 following a long illness. He was born February 22, 1932 in Roanoke to the late Dewey Lee and Stella Pratt Cochran.
He is survived by: two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Mark O’Borsky of Castaic, CA, Donna and Craig Erickson of Post Falls, ID; sons and daughter-in-0law, Darrell and Kim Cochran of Portland, OR and Duane Cochran of Portland, OR and Duane Cochran of Coeur d’ Alene, ID; sister, Genevieve Starkey of Floyd; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three nieces and several cousins who were all special to him. The cremains will be brought to Virginia for interment at a later date.

ILA OLETTA DALTON
INDIAN VALLEY-Ila Oletta Dalton, 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, July 21, 2008. She was born in Christiansburg on August 23, 1920 to the late Earnest Clinton and Margaret Malina (Mellie) Duncan Dalton. Ila was a dairy farmer by trade, loved to work in the garden, and was a good cook. She was well known in the Floyd County community for her beautiful hand-made quilts and crocheted pieces. She attended the Union Primitive Baptist Church of Indian Valley. Ila was also preceded in death by one brother, Harold Eugene Dalton, of Indian Valley.
She is survived by;  her loving brother, Harry Clinton Dalton and sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Dalton of Indian Valley; sister-in-law, Effie Mae Showalter Dalton of Christiansburg. Ila will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews, Lois D. and Charles N. Millis of Wilkinson, Indiana; Lowell B. and Nina R. Dalton of Blacksburg; and Titus E. and Glenda S. Dalton of Christiansburg. She dearly loved her great-nieces and nephews, David Millis of Wilkinson, Indiana; Jasmine M. and John Quiett of Greenfield, Indiana; Bethany Dalton of Radford; and Chad E. Dalton of Christiansburg.
The family will received friends Thursday, July 24 from 1-2 p.m. at Maberry Funeral Home with the funeral services immediately following at 2 p.m. in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Elder Larry Hollandsworth officiating. Interment was at the Sumpter Cemetery in Indian Valley.

GLENDA CARTER GAUDETTE
DANVILLE- Glenda Carter Gaudette, 60, died unexpectedly Monday, July 21, 2008. She became ill and was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center where she died suddenly.
Born March 2, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Carter and Velma Ousley Carter. She attended George Washington High School and had retired from Dan River Mills. She graduated with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Danville Community College in 2008 where she was a member of the Honor Society and phi Beta Kappa. She was a Girl Scout member and was a lilcensed interpreter for the deaf. She was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.
She is survived by: her daughters, Dawn Brown and husband Ronald of the residence and five grandchildren, Ronald Brown, Jr., Chiara Brown, Alexis Brown, Destiny Brown and Joshua Brown. She is also survived by her sister, Nancy Carter, of Danville and several cousins from Floyd County. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Johnny Gaudette and a brother, Roy Carter.
Graveside service was held Friday, July 25, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Allen Roberson officiating. Interment was held in Danville Memorial Gardens Garden of Rest. EDNA DICKERSON HARMAN
FLOYD-Edna Dickerson Harman, 89,  passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2008.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Harman, two sons-in-law, Gary Bowling and Eugene Huff, and two sisters, Reva Graham and Juanita Cumberland.
Surviving are: four daughters, Barbara Harman, Christiansburg; Ralphelene Huff, Floyd, Joyce Bowling, Ferrum, Sue Abshire, Floyd; one sister, Verbena Walters, brother-in-law and spouse, Jack and Margaret Harman; sisters-in-law and spouses, Lillie and Bob Keifer, Frances and Richard Leidy, Peggy Brown; twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, five step great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25,  at Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren, Floyd,  with the Reverend Marvin Wade and the Reverend Richard Thomas officiating.
Interment followed at Beaver Creek Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren.
Arrangements were handled by Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd.

ANNIE IRISTEEN N. MORAN
COPPER HILL-In loving memory of Annie Iristeen N. Morgan, March 16, 1937 to July 23, 2008.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John D. Moran, son, Daniel W. Moran and grandson Charlie S. Moran.
She is survived by: two sons and wives, Barry and Jane Moran, Steve and Rosalie Moran; two daughters and husbands, Becky and Don Loyd, Wanda and Charles Herrington; three sisters, Flossie and George Moran, Tressie Sigmon, Shirley and John Mauk; two brothers, Gordon and Annie Nichols, Burton and Linda Nichols; sisters-in-law, Irene Moran and Doris Nichols; one granddaughter; four grandsons and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Copper Hill Church of the Brethren with Reverend Maurice Wright officiating with interment in the Restvale Cemetery. Wood Funeral Home, Floyd, handled arrangements. 

PAULA SUE “POLLY” PATTERSON
FLOYD-Paula Sue “Polly” Patterson, 62, formerly of Freeman, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008 in a Radford hospital.
She was born March 6, 1946 in Eckman. She was a daughter of the late Roy and Dorothy Wilson Faulkner. She had been a resident of Floyd for six years and was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sister, Shelby Farley and Melda “Mousie” Zyderveld.
Survivors include: soul mate, Roger Patterson of Freeman; son, Leslie Roger “Dusty”  Patterson of Floyd; six grandchildren, Summer LeAnn Patterson, John Michael Sampson, Marina Blakely Sampson, Robert (Bobby) Alan Lee, Isabella Paige Lee, Katelyn Ashley Lee; brothers, Robert Faulkner and wife Carol of Floyd, Richard Faulner and wife Marlene of Floyd, Danny Faulkner and wife Kathy of Bluewell; sisters, Patricia Miller and husband Elmer of Floyd, Sharon Punturi and husband Robert of Montcalm, Kathy Sabo and husband James of Freeman; Shelia Harris of Radford.
Funeral service was conducted on Saturday, July 26, at 11 a.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with the Reverend David Lusk officiating. Burial followed at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell.

 

NELLIE THOMAS ROBERTSON
FLOYD-Nellie Thomas Robertson, 91,  passed away Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Wheatland Hills. She was born in Floyd County to the late J. A. and Melinda Lancaster Thomas.
Nellie was a member of Little River Baptist Church. She was a devoted homemaker and had a tremendous love of flowers.
Nellie was also known for her love of God, family, cooking and sewing.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, John William Robertson, Sr; sister, Elsie Shank; three brothers, Raymond, Lafayette and Nelson Thomas.
She is survived by: three children and spouses, John, Jr. and Wanda Robertson, of Pilot, Anita Jean Robertson, of Stuart, Joe and Linda Robertson, of Floyd; granddaughter and spouse, Alicia and Doug Tiller, of Stuart; sister, Juanita Thomas Church, of Winston-Salem, NC; special friends, Bob and Rosie Bishop, of Bassett, Garfield Radford, of Floyd. She will also be missed by her special friends at Wheatland Hills and her church children.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 26,  at Gardner Funeral Home with the Rev. Allan Vass officiating. Interment followed at Jacksonville Cemetery.

JOHN D. STAMPS
FLOYD-John D. Stamps, 73, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2008.
Mr. Stamps served his country for 23 years in the Navy with duty in Korea and Vietnam.  After his retirement from the Navy, he worked in security with the Tennessee Valley Authority.
He is survived by: his wife of 50 years, Margaret Stamps, Floyd; two sisters and brothers-in-law, June and Joe Marlow, Harriman, TN; Judy and Paul Sutherland, Jacksonville, FL; brother-in-law and spouse, Wesley and Eva Goss, Rockwood, TN; sister-in-law and spouse, Betty and George Bennett, Alexandria, VA; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was conducted on 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Richard Gregory officiating.
Donations may be made to Floyd United Methodist Church.
Military rites were conducted by Floyd County V.F.W. Post # 7854 and Floyd American Legion Post # 127.
