Campbell

John M. “Boston” “Mayor of Gilman Street” Campbell died performing his routine chores Thursday, July 12, 2007.
He was born in Williamson, W.Va., to Eldred S. Campbell of Talcott, W.Va., and Melsina Campbell of Rocky Mount on Jan. 2, 1927. He was a former resident of Dayton, Ohio; Habana, Cuba, and Talcott, W.Va.
He was a graduate of Liberty High School in Williamson, W.Va., and a graduate of ITI in Chicago, Ill. He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a recipient of the Victory Medal. His employment included the Charles Drew Health Center, NCR, the Ministerio Commission in Cuba, and University of Dayton from which he was retired. He was a member of the NAACP, National Society of Professional Engineers, and the National Parks Conservation Association, among others.
His passions were traveling, chess (master player), trains, jazz, fishing and studying the Bible (like his father). He was a tennis master (as was his mother). He enjoyed sitting on his porch and wildlife observation and conservation. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Paul M. “Prep” Maceo, Earl, and Eldred Campbell; his sisters, Eloise Campbell Terrell, Lorene Campbell, Nannie Campbell Smith, and Irene Campbell.
Survivors include his daughter, Melsina M. Campbell of Marion; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Jenette Campbell of Trotwood, Ohio; his sister, Gwen Campbell Lee; his grandchildren, Anthony Thurman (Deanna), Teresa Stevens and (Rodney), all of Huntsville, Ala., and Erin and Hillary Campbell, both of Dayton, Ohio; and his great-grandchildren, Anthony, Antwon, Andre, and Amya Thurman, Angelita, Brandon, Matthew, Stevens, Kierra, Cameron, Dearon, and Cyran Campbell.
His cremation was held Wednesday, July 18, 2007. A celebration of life service was held in Talcott, W.Va., on Saturday, July 21, 2007, for family and intimate friends followed by interment.

DeBord

Patricia Ann DeBord, 56, died Saturday, July 21, 2007, in Baltimore, Md., after a three-week battle with lung cancer.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William and Orrie Goodman DeBord of Saltville, Eward and Bertha Catron Asbury of Marion; uncles, Robert and Roy Charles DeBord of Saltville; and aunt, Hazel Hatfield of Waynesboro.
Survivors include her parents, William and Catherine Asbury DeBord of Baltimore, Md.; sister, Vicky DeBord of Baltimore, Md.; brother, Kerri DeBord of Baltimore, Md.; nephew, Kyle Hoffman of Baltimore, Md.; four aunts, Corrine Weaver and Dorothy Everhart and husband, Robert, all of Saltville, Patsy Blevins of Broadford and Barbara Moore and husband, Don, of Saltville; four uncles, John DeBord and wife, Diane, of Largo, Fla., Wiley Asbury of Pennsylvania, William Asbury of Waynesboro and Claude Asbury of Baltimore, Md.;
A memorial service will be held in Baltimore, Md.

Hall

Bessie Louise Shazier Hall, 64, died Friday, July 20, 2007, at Smyth County Community Hospital.
Survivors include her son, Parrish Hall of Chilhowie; two grandchildren, Cherrish Hall and Malakia Hall; two brothers, Willy Ray Shazier of Newport News and Haskel Shazier Sr. of Chilhowie; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon, July 24, 2007, at Williams Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dwayne A. Mabry officiated the ceremony. Burial followed in the Chilhowie Cemetery.
The family received friends Tuesday afternoon, July 24, 2007, prior to the funeral service.

Kimberlin

Lena Mae Kimberlin, 87, died Sunday, July 22, 2007.
She was at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Peggy Kimberlin. She was a member of the Chatham Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther; son, Dennis; two daughters, Maxine Cruey and Gerri Galliher; and grandson, Johnny Griffey.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Faye Kimberlin of Rich Valley and Dean and Peggy Kimberlin of Saltville; five daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Bill Tuell of Florida, Juanita and Kenneth Howell of Bristol, Peggy and Jim Blevins of Evington, Sharon and Gary Griffey of Rich Valley and Sandy and Joe Burkett of Marion; special daughter, Pam Meade; daughter-in-law, Darlene Kimberlin of Rich Valley; son-in-law, Warnie Cruey of Rocky Gap; sisters, Lorraine Kell of Bluefield, W.Va., and Ann Looney and Lucille Walls, both of Princeton, W.Va.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2007, in the Chatham Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Yates and the Rev. Donny Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at the funeral home.

Mabe

Ben B. Mabe, 71, of Mansfield, Ohio, died Saturday, July 21, 2007, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. He was born Dec. 4, 1935 in Saltville to the late Earn Sr. and Pearl B. (Berry) Mabe and resided in Mansfield. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps with posts in Japan and Hawaii. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ where he was baptized two years ago. He was a truck driver for over 35 years. Early in his trucking career, he was an owner-operator, and then went to work for Yellow Freight, where he retired. Even in his retirement, he resumed his passion for driving by going to work at Beverage Body. Trucking was not only his profession, but also his passion in life. He loved driving over the road to see the different country all over the United States.
He was preceded in death by two brothers Ernest (Cora) Mabe and Graham (Peggy) Mabe.
Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara (Bunting) Mabe of Mansfield; daughter, Shelly and Rick Pittenger of Mansfield: son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Brenda Mabe of Columbia Station, Ohio, two sisters, Mildred (Mabe) Price of Mansfield, and Jane (Mabe) and O.C. Clear of Saltville; seven grandchildren, Logan, Ashley, Austin, Lauren, Jacob, Allayna, and Patrick Mabe; granddog, Chreekee; and loving dog, Pepee.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, July 23, 2007, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. The Rev. Lon McSherley conducted the ceremony.
Military graveside services were conducted by the Richland County Joint Burial Detail will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park.

Shuler

Andy Shuler, 80, died Sunday, July 22, 2007 in Marion.
He was a member of Elizabeth United Methodist Church in Teas. He had worked for 40 years at Berry Builder Supply of Chilhowie and had farmed in the Sugar Grove area for the biggest part of his life.
Survivors include his wife, June Griffith Shuler of Sugar Grove; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen S. and Neal Kilgore of Abingdon; two sisters, Ruth Harrington of Sugar Grove and Louise Spencer of Wala Wala, Wash.; one brother, Bill Shuler of Chilhowie; one precious grandson, Konnor Kilgore; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, July 24, 2007, at Elizabeth United Methodist Church in Teas. The Rev. Mike Ward officiated the ceremony. Burial followed in Pugh Cemetery in Teas.

Thompson

Loretta Dawn Thompson, 74, died Saturday, July 21, 2007, at the Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was born in Smyth County to the late Bill and Leslie Taylor and was preceded in death by a brother, Alec Taylor; three sisters, Betty Huffman, Shirley Blevins and Virginia Martin.
She was retired from the Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute as a psychiatric aide.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Herbert Thompson; children, Jimmy and Rita Thompson of Marion, Roger and DeAnna Thompson of Dublin and Joe and Missy Thompson of Marion; sisters, Peggy Satterfield of Chilhowie, Delores and Wilton Dolinger of Independence and Janie Hellburg of Pickens, S.C.; grandchildren, Chris Thompson and wife, Kim, and Jason Thompson, all of Raleigh, N.C., Stacy Hall and husband, Aaron, Crystal Dawn Thompson and Adam Thompson, all of Marion; step-grandchildren, C.C. Johnsey and husband, the Rev. Allen Johnsey of Marion, Angie Wright and husband, Tim, Richard Aker and Becky Aker, all of Atkins; great-grandchildren, Caleb Thompson of Raleigh, N.C., Calvin Hall and Stephen Hall, both of Marion; step-great-grandchildren, Caedmon Johnsey, Mia Johnsey, both of Marion, Abbigail Whitt, Jennah Kim, both of Marion, and Bailey Wright of Atkins; special friend, Kate Dennison; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday evening, July 23, 2007, at Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Marion. The Revs. David Neitch, Roger Frost, and Allen Johnsey officiated the ceremony. Graveside services were held Tuesday morning, July 24, 2007, at Slemp Cemetery.
