Barlow

Mary Edith Blankenbeckler Barlow, 80, died Thursday, July 19, 2007, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
She was born in Smyth County to the late Lonzo and Minnie Hash Blankenbeckler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Joseph Barlow, and several brothers and sisters.
She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and had worked at Harwood Manufacturing and Virginia House Furniture.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Minnie B. and Scottie Jones of Roanoke; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Francis Blankenbeckler of Chilhowie; two grandchildren, Jeffery Jones and Lisa Harris and husband, Christopher; and one great-grandchild, Amber Lynn Harris.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2007, at the Macedonia Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Blevins officiating. Interment will follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Elmore

James Robert Elmore, 73, died Monday, July 16, 2007, at his home. 
He was well known for his hobby of lawnmower and small engine repair. He was a well loved husband of 46 years, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Margie Elmore; son, Jeff Elmore; and two brothers, Charles and Billy Elmore.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Emogene Elmore; three daughters and sons-in-law, Renauta and Larry Ball of Bristol, Tammy Weaver of Abingdon, and Angie and David Leonard of Statesville, N.C.; sister, Gladys Hagar of Marion; four grandchildren, Brandi Sant, and husband Tim, Christa Bare, Sasha Weaver, Kendra Hamilton; great-grandchild, Audrey Hess; and several nieces and nephews.           
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday evening, July 18, 2007, at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Atkins and the Rev. Gary Knapp officiated the ceremony. A graveside committal was held Thursday morning, July 19, 2007, at Mt. Rose Cemetery with the Hardy Roberts VFW Post 7328 conducting military rites.
The family received friends Wednesday evening, July 18, 2007, at the funeral home.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Falkie

Ray Thomas Falkie, 89, died Monday, July 16, 2007, in the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.
He was born in Smyth County to the late Gordon and Maude Falkie and was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Falkie.
Survivors include two children, Erett Falkie of Atlanta, Ga., and Naomi Falkie of Marion; one stepdaughter, Revonda Hall of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday morning, July 20, 2007, at Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Marion. Pastor Steve Hutton officiated the ceremony. Interment was held in Attoway Cemetery.

Greer

Mary Kate Cook Greer, 75, widow of Worth E. Greer, died Thursday, July 19, 2007, in Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, Tenn.
Survivors include one son, Steven Douglas Greer of Atkins; two grandchildren, Mista Nicole Greer and Caleb Andrew Greer, both of Marion; one sister, Maude Moore, of Marion; two sisters-in law, Edith Cox and Vella Harmon, both of Marion; one brother-in-law, Rex Greer and wife, Ruth, of Atkins; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Betty Williams.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 23, 2007, at 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Donna Hester officiating. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at 10 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion.

Johnson

Harry Alfred Johnson, 75, died Monday, July 16, 2007, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Smyth County, the son of the late Charles W. and Lona Heath Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Randolph (Randy) Johnson. He was a retired employee from ABF Trucking Company. He served in the U.S. Air Force and attended the Rural Retreat Baptist Church.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 53 years, Dorothy Johnson; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Dot Johnson of Bristol, Paul and Martha Johnson of Lake Mary, Fla., Herbert (Turk) and Lorraine (Penny) Johnson of Groseclose, Joe and Rose Johnson, Jimmy Johnson and Ervin and Darlene Johnson, all of Marion; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Jim Buchanan of Goldsboro, N.C., and Jeanette and Joe Smith of Marion; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Hamby Horton and husband, David, of Florida and Bessie Johnson of Marion; two brothers-in-law, Donald Hamby and George (Bobby) Hamby, both of Florida; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday evening, July 18, 2007, at Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Jason McNeese officiated the ceremony. Graveside services were held Thursday morning, July 19, 2007, at Middle Fork Cemetery in Chilhowie with full military honors being rendered by the Francis Marion VFW Post #4667

Lockhart

Dennis Loren Lockhart, 57, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007, in Smyth County Community Hospital. 
He was a truly loyal and loving husband, father and great “Poppy.” He was a kind, gentle man and will be greatly missed by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Lockhart
Survivors include his wife, Shirley H. Lockhart of Marion; two daughters, Kelly Anne Gotham and Emily Loren Lockhart, both of Marion; one son and daughter-in-law, William Spencer and Jessica Gotham of Marion; his father, Dennison C. Lockhart of Atkins; one brother, Bill Lockhart of Greenville, S.C.; one sister and brother-in-law, Leann and Boyd Temple of Salem; two nieces and one nephew, Chelsea, Ben and Megan; two grandchildren, Braxton and Madison; and many other family members and loved ones. 
Funeral services were held Thursday evening, July 19, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church in Marion. The Rev. Jeff Lambert officiated the ceremony. Graveside services were held Friday morning, July 20, 2007, at Rose Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum in Marion.

Nicholson

Chet M. Nicholson, 64, died Monday, July 16, 2007, in Smyth County Community Hospital. 
He was an elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was raised in the San Bernardino, Calif., area. He was the family history consultant with the church in Smyth County. He attended several colleges, including Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. He had been employed by McDonald-Douglas Corporation, Brunswick Corporation and American Furniture. He was a devoted and loving family man. 
He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Edward Nicholson, and two grandchildren, Charles William Cregger Jr. and Anna Sophia Christensen. 
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Nicholson, of Marion; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Danielle Nicholson of Washington state, Erin and Cary Christensen of Trenton, Utah, D’Arcy and Charlie Owens of Blounts Creek, N.C., and Micaela and Bucky Cregger of Marion; his mother, Claudine Sechman of Payson, Utah; six grandchildren, Johann, Shelby and Amber Christensen, Reva, Nicholson and Callie Cregger. 
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Branch President Seth Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Community Cemetery in Ceres.

Russell

Grace Blevins Russell, 95, of Arlington died Tuesday, July 17, 2007.
She was born in Chilhowie to the late Claude E. and Cecelia McClure Blevins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Russell; her daughter, Lola Jean Fugel; and a granddaughter, Deborah Jean Heine.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Kimberly Fugel; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Griffith and Christina Griffith; son-in-law, Don Fugel; and several nieces and nephews.
Interment was held Thursday, July 19, 2007, in Columbia Gardens Cemetery.
Murphy Funeral Home in Arlington was in charge of arrangements.
